Even non-gamers know Contra. Perhaps it was its introduction of co-op play into gaming, or its punishing difficulty, or is unforgettable 30-lives cheat code. Whatever it was, Contra has remained in the public eye for over 20 years now. There have been numerous sequels, with varying gameplay devices, but Contra III: Alien Wars remains the fan favorite, offering up intense action with solid graphics (for the time) and rewarding gameplay. Contra 4 follows suit and should be familiar to anyone that's played any game of the series. And though it suffers from some old-world gaming mechanics, it delivers on the promise it made, bringing the old school shooter franchise to the DS in fine form.
