Drake’s Deception should be the final chapter in the Uncharted story

SG - WARNING: I talk about the ending of Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception, so stay away if you haven’t finished the story yet. But, please, come back once you do.

Just hear me out before you roll your eyes. I love Uncharted. It’s not the best action-adventure game out there, and it’s definitely not the best shooter, but the series provides some of the most thrilling and cinematic entertainment you can find outside of a blockbuster Hollywood production. (PS3, Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception)

Nah more Uncharted!! ;P
ginsunuva  +   1553d ago
There should be just one last one as a ps4 title that has ND go all out with talent.
WhiteLightning  +   1554d ago
The ending didn't have such an impact like it could of closed the franchise for good, in fact it gave off the impression that there would be many more

I mean

Sully bought a plane which could be used in the future Uncharted games.

I would watch with that Spoiler tag....apparently to the mods it warrents a Ban, even though people have been doing it on here for ages without any mention of being restricted or banned. You know what the mods are like....making up the rules as they go.
shikamaroooo  +   1553d ago

Him buying the plane. Drake and Elena getting back together. Drake letting go of his past (the ring he carried around), seemed like a good way to end a trilogy

Uncharted will keep going since it's now an important franchise for Sony. But I hope UC4 is a PS4 launch title so we get a big jump in graphics and set pieces which is what the series is renowned for. ND should work on something else until then.
WitWolfy  +   1553d ago
If that was the last one, then explain Golden Abyss for PSV then. Remember ND said "As long as the fans ask for Uncharted, and it sells well they'll continue making them"

Plus Im also sure they said something in the lines of.... "not every Uncharted game will follow up on each other"

So IMO the possibilities are endless really.

isnt golden abyss a prequel?
WitWolfy  +   1553d ago
Exactly! Proving my second point.

I'd like an Uncharted game playing as Cutter.

I'm inclined to side with the author here. Don't get me wrong, I love Uncharted as much as the next guy, but I think that Drake's Deception rounded things off nicely; Drake's letting go of the ring was a poignant moment that could almost symbolise his willingness to let go of his inner explorer and live happily ever after with Elena (which some would agree the closing scene implies).

Personally I think the brilliance of the Uncharted series would diminish if the developer decided to push out a forth instalment. I would like to see Naughty Dog do something else now - perhaps make a new title altogether, or a revive the Crash Bandicoot franchise that died so horribly the moment they relinquished ownership of it.

How about some spoiler warnings?
csreynolds  +   1553d ago
Fair point, though this article's N4G description does read:

"WARNING: I talk about the ending of Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception, so stay away if you haven’t finished the story yet."

The instruction is simple: this article is about Uncharted 3's ending. If you don't want to know, don't read. Furthermore, if you neglect this warning and skip straight to the comments, you've only yourself to blame.

? this is an article about the ending, im sure many comments will be too. But I gave you an agree because spoiler tags should be a given incase people happen to "wonder" in here.

That was my point.

Completely agree. Not that I wouldn't buy more Uncharted titles though!

I'm waiting for an Uncharted kart game, that's what Naughty Dog did in the previous PS generations, Crash Bandicoot 1, 2 and 3 then Crash Team Racing on the PS1. On the PS2 Jak and Daxter 1, 2 and 3, followed by Jak X: Combat Racing.
shikamaroooo  +   1553d ago
You mean... Wait for it......

csreynolds  +   1553d ago
I kart believe you went there... :-P

Personally I think the ending and tone of 3 sets Uncharted up brilliantly for sequels. By cementing drake as a family guy with real world responsibilities itll have more impact when he's no-doubt dragged back into the adventurer lifestyle later down the line. The closer he gets to people the more he has to lose and the more bad guys can take advantage of that.

The only problem with making another Uncharted, IMO, would be the lack of 'themes' Naughty Dog would have left. They have practically used every possible nature theme in the Uncharted series from jungle, water, snow and sand.
I'm probably making a big deal out of nothing but one of the things I have always loved about each Uncharted game is how they distinguish each other with their respective nature themes.
I think it's quite safe to say that when people think of 'Drake's Fortune', they will associate it with the jungle just as how they would associate 'Among Thieves' with snow and 'Drake's Deception' with the desert. What would Uncharted 4 be associated with?
That said, it seems that 'Golden Abyss' on PSVita will be reusing the South American jungle theme, which I am honestly not bothered about at all. I'm just ecstatic (and even thankful) that we are actually getting a handheld Uncharted, with it's own story, that looks just as good as the first Uncharted. And it'll be in stores by February!

Tomb Raider seems to have no problems in terms of finding locations so I'm sure ND can find other environments, or even reuse similar ones.

yeah the ending for U3 did give a sense of closure to the series but i dunno if it should end there.
U3 kind of set up for an U4. just because Katherine and Talbot is dead, doesnt mean the secret society would stop, heck, they could send more people to hunt down Drake and his gang. THAT could be the plot for U4. Drake is forced to follow the secret society's orders so that his friends live. he has to find more treasures or something.
-----SPOILERS END------
just throwing out there.

I would like to see Naughty Dog do some non-British villains for future Uncharted games. I'm actually quite shocked that we haven't seen an American villain yet other than Pinkerton from 'Eye of Indra'.
But I really like your idea about the society continuing with a new leader. Who knows, maybe Marlowe had a son and/or daughter that was never mentioned. I think Christopher Golden (Author of 'The Fourth Labyrinth) could make this into a compelling novel or a comic for people who don't like to read too much.

hey, you're right! now that i think about, all 3 big baddies of the Uncharted series are foreigners :O
if there's an Uncharted book with this plot coming out, i called it first ;D
perfectCarbonara  +   1553d ago
It can be the end of Nate's search for Sir Francis Drake and his exploits. However, it could be the start of a whole new trilogy.
Sugreev2001  +   1553d ago
The ending implies more Uncharted games in the future.I'm such a huge fan of the franchise,I'd pre-order UC4 already if I was able to.In short,I do not want the series to only just started in my opinion.
WitWolfy  +   1553d ago
There will be more Uncharted's to come, I can a sure you of that. If something makes Money then Sony wont simply shut it down. You can even quote me on that as well
