Infinity Ward: It's "better for the industry" if MW3 and BF3 succeed

Speaking to Eurogamer TV on the green carpet, Infinity Ward exec producer Mark Rubin hit out at the "silly publisher talk", insisting: "When both games succeed it's better for the industry as a whole. It's not just us - we want the gaming industry to succeed because the better the gaming industry does the better we all do. We root for everybody."

I wouldn't totally agree, but it is certainly responsible for revolutionsing the FPS genre, and has clearly been the source of much inspiration in the rebuild of BF3. Both huge credit to Infinity Ward.

I hope to god cod dies so we wont see all the cod clones and oversaturation of the fps genre. Cause publishers see it as the only way to get a profit.

FPS and shooter in general are going no where. Since the early days of Doom through to the online console and Halo and now COD, FPS have always been and will continue to be at the forefront of gaming.

Eventually CODs popularity might drop, but I'd bet that will only be for the rise of another FPS/shooter.

It's not COD, IW or Acti's fault their game became so popular it influenced other games/studios. You shouldn't be condemned for producing something million upon million of people love. Even if your not one of them.

But it is IW and Acti's choice to not push the boundaries and do things differently.

Side note (my 2 cents).. Like it or not, COD games have always been tweaked versions of each other. They set the bar high and then just pumped out new versions at that same level. Simple business strategy and it has obviously worked for them.

Other games, while still a ways off in terms of sales and popularity, are catching up. Sure others try to copy the COD model but they do trying to do things differently - sadly they aren't influential enough to change the genre.

Tough competition and customer needs/demands were in my eyes the big reasons for the break away from WW2 fps years and into MW1 years.
Im hoping just hoping the increasing competition between the games will force Acti, IW and any other developers to try and break away and do something fresh and different to this stagnent genre.

I would disagree, its only good if we want more FPSes. For the industry to be really healthy, we need a break out hit like CoD in another genre.

No it's ruined it....

Games have to tack on multiplayer now and try and make it like COD so they can "sell" more copies of their games but in reality all it does is lower the quality of the game.
