Are online passes a cancer to the video game industry? A short article discussing why it is.
No, we are for continuous financial support and "Meh" attitude toward more companies, not just EA,for doing things like this. Piracy is what truly led us to this.......and Gamestop.
Hate that word cancer being used in gaming soo loosely.
People using words that they dont understand....
whos using a word they don't understand? I know I personally know the definition of cancer.
Than Sony is the devil also, they also do online passes I wouldnt compare cancer to online passes, thats just stupid
The dictionary defines cancer as "any evil condition or thing that spreads destructively; blight.", which is the way it is used here.
Yeah but online passes didn't kill my dad, is the thing.
***Yeah but online passes didn't kill my dad, is the thing.*** No, but Online Passes are spreading and it is "an evil condition"....
Gamers who give their money to practices like this are the problem. If people could stand to take a year or two off of the franchises that use the online passes, the business end of EA would go "well that didn't make us any money!" and poof, away go the online passes. But people don't have that kind of willpower :)
I don't think people are aware of the online passes. Heck, when the "online pass" with BC2 gave me extra content, I was cool with that (and in many ways unaware of the repercussions). Now it turned into, you (or your friends/family) can't access stuff you paid for! Games in particular is not something you can open, discover it and return it if you disagree and that is where I think a lot of consumers get bitten. I don't *remember* seeing any warning on my BF3 copy at all....
Well at least they aren't like Capcom.....yet Super Battlefield 3, Battlefield 3 Extreme Edition Plus. Or like Activision with the OP map packs. Regardless EA seem to be up there with along them(Capcom/Activision) but they are probably one of the least evilest. I know someone might mention Origin, but maybe its time for most of us to get over Origin and just move on.
No that would be Bobby over at activision who is working hard to convince all publishers to get on board with the pay for a separate subscription per game model
No, its smart business. They have to do something to fight the used games market.
why? why do they deserve to profit if we sell the games we've bought and paid for? they're not their property once we've bought them, why should we give them a cut if we sell them on?
Trick at beating Online Pass.IF you buy an used game make sure you have a cool friend that will let you use his account.Download it and you is good too go.This allows tha developers too work around tha lames known as Gamestop. I tried too trade in a game and they told me I will get $15 back.I only had tha game for 2 freaking days.Every since that day I havent got anything gaming related from them... I total understand that this is about money and I dont freaking care as long tha company use my money too create awesome games.
No, they are a company.
Q. Is EA the devil? A. No, not even the devil is that evil.
Stop complaining about online passes when you continue to buy used games. The gaming industry (publishers) such as EA support thousands of people that make the games that we love to play and these individuals have families that they support with the money made on "New" game sales. These games are the reason there are specialty chains like gamestop, so without EA and every other publisher there would be no industry. So keep supporting the used game market and we will continue to see studios closed. Then we will be left with nothing to complain about, but the fact that we have no games left to play.
Studios are not closing because of preowned sales. Studios are closing because of lackluster new sales in the first place. Devs make terrible games, and they sell terrible, thats not the preowned markets fault, that the devs fault for making it.
You can't tell me that pre-owned games sale have nothing to do with the decline in new games sales. Studios like EA took chances on properties when no one would. Deadspace (should have never worked), Brutal legend, and Oddworld Strangers wrath both games that offered unique gaming experiences that were both picked up by EA after being dropped by their original publishers and released through their partners program. If anything EA has done more this generation to change their image as an evil empire while Activision has done everything in their power to solidify it's place as the devil, yet come tuesday you will line up and get your copy of COD and pay the elite price and still complain. Enjoy!
If they can't compete with used game then they should go out of business and be replaced by publishers who CAN just like in every other industry. I buy fewer NEW games because of this stupid customer abusing online pass shit. If I get less flexibility with what I bought with regards to trading it or selling it then I'll just buy it at a much lower price. That means if there aren't any Onlive deals or B2G1F sales at Target then I just won't buy games with online passes new.
If anyone beleaves some buisnesses closed due to even abit of the used sales market then you are very wrong indeed. Best example of this is not hard to see ,we are in a resession" globally banks not helping out goverments all for themselvs. So buisnesses that get hit hard has to do watevet it takes to get head above water rigjt, ok But some have taken this as a chance to make money on by this online pass. I mean come on SONY ,EA you really think they need the extra money pffff. Listen forget when you bought the xbox 360, forget the ps3,forget the wii. Take yourselvs back to the dawn on the psx day's threw to the ps2 gamecube and xbox1. No complaints there no buisnesses went under cos of second hand market. Thoes days small devs where getting there start and now i reckon been taken on by big corps we know of today. This generation is all about making a fast buck and greed not just the gaming market. Not sure about you guy's but here in uk over last decade even our foods have gon up in price and yet the foods have shrunk again not economy its greed. Put price up ok but why reduce what we buy if you increased the price.? Why has. DLC gone from a few few £ or $ to what we pay now in a course of what 4 years because they can, they tested the waters they incresed. Price we still bought they increased even more. Online gaming DLC should be free!
they are just another greedy publisher
If you're buy the game new the online pass cost you nothing, it is part of the entire package. You are not paying $60+ additional online pass fees(COD excluded), so it makes sense that you buy new. Why would you support a company that will sell you a game new for $60 dollars and turn around and give you $15 a mere 24 hours later, just to mark it up to $55 as soon as you walk out the door? You complain about online passes ,but I would complain about the fact that your losing 75 percent of your hard earned money and then have to pay for the online pass, raising your cost to above the new retail w/online pass. Hiredhelp I am not saying that the used game market is single handedly killing studios, but when you have studios reporting quarterly sales of a title and the number of people owning and playing online out number the amount sold than we may have some issues. Do you have friends that work in the industry? I do and I get to see and hear first hand how the gamestops of the world are affecting these studios.
Yes,they are greedy money whores. No real reason for online passes other then they want a extra billion a year they tell you it's to stop piracy and used game sales but we all know it's all about money nothing more then corporate greed.
The online pass cost you nothing if you buy new, therefore new is route to go.
