Review: Battlefield 3 (Single Player) | Clearance Bin Review

"You know it’s November when the Battlefields and Call of Duty’s are migrating to store shelves around the world. For the past couple of years EA has been making some rather serious attempts to steal some of Call of Duty’s thunder, mostly by trying to emulate Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare’s success. There have been some interesting attempts along the way, including the Battlefield: Bad Company series, as well as the Medal of Honor reboot, but Battlefield 3 was their flagship. A significant portion of the game’s marketing has been to push the idea that Battlefield 3 had what was really lacking in Modern Warfare 2, a phenomenal single player experience. Well the marketing is done and the game on the shelves so the question is, did they succeed?"

I think 7.5 for the campaign is generous.

Agreed.
The single player portion has characters with no personality, QTE that is annoying and talking sequences you have to wait to end until you get back to the action. Now that wouldn't have been so bad if they had actors above bad porn acting capabilities.

The pacing of the SP was okay but the entire story, plot and presentation, came off as a walking cliche that's been done to death a hundred times over.

Why divide the game as there's an option to purchase one or the other? People should review this game like all the others that offer single player and multiplayer, instead of trying to inflate scores for the mp.

I'm not just singling this site out but honestly, reviewing half of a game makes no sense to me.

As the author of the article I'd be happy to comment on that. I decided to write a review focusing on the single player because as a gamer I typically focus on the single player experience. With a title such as this, most reviews have a tendency to base their score largely off of a multiplayer experience; an experience as I stated before is typically not what I'm looking for and is horribly subjective as well. After publishing this article I did take some time to look at other reviews and found most of the higher scores were heavily based on multiplayer, so I feel like my decision did exactly what I meant for it to do.
