PUBLIC OPINION: The Silent Hill Video Games Are the Scariest

SodaHead: We hope your Halloween was as hair-raising and horrifying as a night spent playing "Fatal Frame" with the lights off -- and we mean that in the best way possible. But "Fatal Frame" (our personal favorite) didn't manage to grab the top spot in our Scariest Video Game poll. That honor went to "Silent Hill," Konami's legendary psychotic survival horror.

Of course, it was impossible to list all of the scary games out there, so we had to limit our choices to just a few popular titles, and we did regretfully leave out one important pick from our list of options, but we'll get to that in a second. Even with the "Other" option, the clear winner in this poll was "Silent Hill." (Amnesia: The Dark Descent, BioShock, Doom, F.E.A.R., Fatal Frame, PC, PS3, Resident Evil, Silent Hill, Xbox 360)

yeah, Ive only played the first 2 and I liked them but I clearly remember silent hill 1 as the only game that has ever scared me, and it freaked me out.

It was a really scary game with a really freaky and creepy atmosphere. The freaky monsters, the fog, the radio noises, the strange shift in dimensions...this game freaked me out when I was younger, i think i was 13 when I played it. Scary stuff, I should get the first for my PSP and play it at night.

Silent Hill 1 and 2 were the scariest. because there was much more dialog in the 3rd and vocal tracks kind of cut into that feeling of dread.

it disrupted the pace of the game for me.

I remember when I played the earlier games for the first time and man were they disturbing as hell. Then we have people who played the recent ones and thought they were pretty good, but they haven't seen the best of the franchise.

If more people had played Amnesia I am sure it would have easily won. Perhaps it wins just because people haven't played it due to being too scared...yeah that will do :P

people say the scariest of all are the Fatal frame series, especially the first 2...also in the other article for FF someones commented on the Devs making the 1st too scary for many to even finish.

I think Amnesia is the scariest game, SH1/2 behind that and probably the first 2 Fatal Frame games.

I'm disappointed Fatal Frame didn't score higher. That's the only horror series that has truly scared me. That final chapter in Fatal Frame 1....holy shit!

Have they played Siren? Those are scary games.
adorie  +   998d ago
isn't there a Siren movie, coming out?
Blacktric  +   998d ago
Siren games are also developed by ex Team Silent members.

I played Silent Hill Homecoming, then played Dead Space... played it 2 hours, went back to Homecoming. IDK, there's nothing like SH for me
