PS Uni: InFAMOUS: Festival of Blood Review

Malcolm Spinedi of PlayStation reviews the PSN-exclusive InFAMOUS: Festival of Blood.

TopDudeMan4561d ago

I enjoyed infamous 2, but after it I felt like I'd had enough of it. Not sure I'll be getting the DLC. I'll get a new game if they make it, though. Infamous 3 for the PS4 here we come...

Chitown712914561d ago

I wanna download just wanna see if its worth it

ABizzel14561d ago

The best way to put it is like this.

Downs:

Yes it's short, about 2 hours of story, and about 2 - 4 more hours to get the rest of the trophies.

Unfortunately the city is smaller, and you can't access other areas, but it's focused on the DLC story, and the events are only taking place in where the story's being told.

The Karma system is gone, but you're a freaking vampire and need blood to survive so everyone's complaining that you have to be evil. If there was a Karma system and you could give up drinking blood, then what do you think would happen to vampire Cole? DEATH. It's a fake story told by Zeke not Infamous 3, get over it.

The best thing about it is:

It's more inFamous, and I believe the UGC is in this one as well, so there will be more vampire action.

Cole's new powers are awesome. Flying around as a bunch of bats, makes me yearn for another Soul Reaver, and Infamous: FOB is the best thing for now.

IT'S ONLY $10. It's the gamers version of going to see a movie.

sorceror1714561d ago

I don't need a karma system to make choices. You can get blood by staking vampires or sucking civilians. I finished the game and only sucked ten civilians. Four of those were forced by the game, the rest were accidents. (One wrong button press near a civvie...)

Chitown712914561d ago

Cool. Bout to download it now! Lol. Its halloween anyway......this should get me in the spirit lol

KUV19774561d ago

I think they failed massively in marketing this thing. Until yesterday I did not know, that this was a standalone title. You do not need inFamous 2 to play this 3 hour (roughly) campaign.

Silly gameAr4561d ago

That's what everyone says, yet they announced that it was a standalone title at E3 this year, and it's been mentioned a number of times on the PSBlog and other gaming sites. Maybe people just weren't listening.

KUV19774561d ago (Edited 4561d ago )

Probably true, but how many gamers check the playstation blog on a regular basis and how many watched the E3? Even though i am one of the few who do, i still didn't know, but that's probably because inFamous related news aren't usually on my radar. I didn't buy the second part yet but intent to later. However, I stumbled upon the fact that it is a standalone title yesterday and immediately bought it. I fear that it will miss a lot of potential customers that don't realize it is not a DLC. Probably not hardcore-inFamous-fans - because I am sure those are the 'few' that really knew.

SoapShoes4561d ago

Yeah not everyone watched those events but it says right on the download description that it does not require infamous 2 to play.

KUV19774561d ago (Edited 4561d ago )

Can't say i noticed it in the German store but with the waves of DLC for all the big titles i wouldn't have bothered to read the ad as i automatically assumed that it was DLC. I don't think i am the exception here but the more people saw it the better. I hope it sells well.
All i am saying is that they should probably have put the 'standalone'-part in big funky letters everywhere, but again, i admit, that i didn't watch inFamous news very closely, so maybe it was just a failure on my end and 'massive marketing failure' was a litte exaggerated.

DaTruth4561d ago

But it sucks that I have to download 3 gigs of data and use up HDD space when a couple of hundred MB's would have done the job as DLC!

They should have gave us a choice between DLC and the standalone game; I already own the engine and 90% of the assets!

sorceror1714561d ago

If they did that, it would have *doubled* the QA effort... and they're only charging $10.

BitbyDeath4561d ago

The advertisement that pops up on the EU store is stating that it is a "standalone" game.

Sony’s best-selling Infamous series did X-Men games better than the actual X-Men

For decades, superheroes had the worst luck when it came to video games, the X-Men chief among them. There are a few welcome outliers—Raven Software’s X-Men Legends duology remains a classic, Wolverine’s game adaptation for his first solo movie has its silly charm, and you can still find the classic beat-’em-up cabinet in arcades everywhere—but there are more lows than highs, from Mutant Wars and X2: Wolverine’s Revenge, to the franchise’s last big stab at mainstream gaming respectability, 2011’s X-Men: Destiny. Sluggish and overwrought, the latter seemed to be the kiss of death for Marvel’s mutants, the precursor to their eventual fate years before they were kicked out of Marvel Vs. Capcom: Infinite. (Getting left out in the cold during Marvel’s big purchase by Disney probably didn’t help.)

When you find out that Kessler is Cole. Mind blown. It was so awesome

Nitrowolf21783d ago

Yeah I really wasn’t expecting that at all, loved it though and made me feel bad for him

Shame cause I thought 2 feel flat in comparison was hoping it’d be set up for us to fail and having to travel back as Kessler.

Easily could have made three focused around getting cole out of that loop.

AspiringProGenji1783d ago

Ah Infamous 2, such a well made game. I miss playing it and would love a remaster. Many people had issues with the story, but I myself enjoyed it. Maybe if I get back and play it I might realize why, but god damn I loved the game

hebewanif1782d ago

my roomate's step-mother makes $72 every hour on the computer . She has been out of a job for six months but last month her check was $13623 just working on the computer for a few hours.

use *Spoiler Alert* next time.

Zeke681782d ago

It's a PS3 title, no need for spoiler tags....
Spolier alert Dr No is the bad guy in the first James Bond movie with the same name from 1962 end spolier alert
How long should it go on in your opinion? 😉

SCW19821782d ago (Edited 1782d ago )

Really? It came out 10 years ago. I think we are past needing spoiler warnings at this point.

lelo2play1783d ago

We shouldn't call them X-Men... feminists don't like it.

Zeke681782d ago

X-(Wo)men *fixed it*
Off topic: northern Sweden and we got 28C in the shadow, damn, my beer is cold for 1 minute and then boiling hot hehe
🥵😎🤘

zsquaresoff1783d ago

Sony needs to remaster both infamous games for ps4/5. Incredible games with pretty easy platinum trophies.

thatguyhayat1782d ago

Infamous 1 looking for the shards was a b*tch.

SamPao1782d ago

yeah that was indeed annoying :D

Silly gameAr1782d ago (Edited 1782d ago )

That was the only trophy I didn't get because it glitched out on me. I have Infamous 2 and Second Son Platinum trophy, but can't get that Infamous 1 plat. That always bugged me.

The_Hooligan1782d ago

The one that gave me hard time was killing 3 people at once by making them fall from a high place. That stunt was a bitch lol. But i really enjoyed the first two infamous games. I need to play second son though.

AspiringProGenji1783d ago (Edited 1783d ago )

I've actually thought the same thing and how Sucker Punch can expand this IP and have their own Xmen. I wish we get an sequel to Infamous 2's bad ending which gave everyone affected by the blast super powers

CBaoth1782d ago

Sucker Punch screwed the series by choosing the "good" ending as canon. Infamous 3 could've been exquisite if Cole ***SPOILERS*** had wiped out 7 billion on the planet. Absolute power corrupts absolutely, Cole should've been the antagonist or at the very least a tortured soul seeking redemption as he became the Beast. Far more interesting concept with intriguing story arcs but they played it safe with banal tropes of the modern political climate.

Andy_Dee1783d ago

Yeah I really enjoyed the first and second one. Never before had I played a game that was like this.

A new experience and the for me as a new fan!

5 games that we dare you to play on Halloween

PS3 Attitude: "To be honest, we’ve never really understood Halloween at PS3 Attitude. As they grow up, children are understandably told time and time again to never ever accept sweets from strangers. Oh, apart from on Halloween, that is, when this kind of behaviour is positively encouraged. Madness!

But we digress. Halloween is also a great excuse to play some of the scariest games on PS3, so we dare you to make it through as many of our chosen titles as you can."

I think i'm going to Hellingly Asylum this halloween, but if I was to choose a game to play it would be Amnesia.

Blastoise4195d ago

Some good choices but I'd replace Dead Rising with Kingdom hearts, assuming you haven't completed Halloween town yet ofcourse :P

KosmoCrisis4195d ago

I'm going to hit the PS Move arcade shooters hard, first with House of the Dead, then I''ll aim to complete Dead Space Extinction.

Whitefeather4195d ago

You want true horror you play Amy, after playing that you'll wake up every night in a cold sweat screaming in horror at actually play that :p

Cam9774195d ago

Why? Because it's so bad? I hope so...
