IGN: Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception got an epic score this week. Find out what went on behind the scenes of the review -- without any spoilers.
Naughty Dog did an excellent job with this game, it deserves some tens.
Have you played it?
Figures. Everyone has to explain why they gave UC3 a 10, but every other 10 just sneaks on by without question. No one asks where they come from, questions its fanboy nature or wonders if it deserves it.No problem. Many people didn't think UC2 deserved it either. It got a ten.Move on.Everyone gave Gears 2 perfect scores too and its AI sucked.I sat there and watched enemies run out from behind cover into gunfire and teammates run out in the open and get shot.
(Meant to be a reply above, disregard!)
Do reviewers REALLY need to explain why they gave certain games a particular scores? First Eurogamer, now IGN, who next? Shouldn't the review itself explain why the game got the score it got? If it doesn't and you feel the need to explain yourself, then you either wrote a crappy review...or you're just desperate for hits. I wouldn't be surprised if IGN just want hits, tbh. They know how popular Uncharted 3 is right now and how many people are discussing review scores, so they know people will click on their podcast if they mention the game or any review controversy about the game. Just write a damn review. And end it with that. If people don't like the score a game was given, so what? They're still going to buy the game. They're still going to enjoy it. Ugh. I hate how immature gaming journalism is. >_>
Reviewers need to explain themselves because gamers make silly comments like "It's not a 10, it's a 9.8" Because .2 is such a massive difference, and every single person on the planet has exactly the same understanding of what the difference between 9.8 and 10.0 are. In an ideal world, we'd get rid of review scores because they just give a big group of gamers an excuse to get all angry, without having to do some reading first. But if that happened metacritic wouldn't exist and there goes a lot of traffic and a lot of advertising revenue. But yeah, it's not just gaming journalism that's at fault over the silly scoring systems. Edit: should clarify that I do agree with you, though, that gaming press could be approaching these scoring systems better, as well, and that it's probably more for the traffic than anything else. :)
Exactly. Explanations beyond the review (except in minor cases) just goes to show the review was poorly written. Reviews are supposed to explain why they awarded the game thusly. Beyond that is just plain stupid. Gaming journalism is ridiculous. Critics need more exposure beyond the realm of games and need to realize there is more to games than technical prowess. By the way, this has nothing to do with Uncharted 3, and everything to do with poor journalistic trends in the gaming industry.
I completely agree
why I feel that 10's are actually 8's. why industry imbeciles throw near perfection hype sandwiches into crowds of perfection starved intellectuals, too smart to eat but not smart enough to buy food themselves.
I can already see the sequel to the game of the year song from 2009 for uncharted 3 its almost unavoidable. Haters gonna hate on Drake and naughty dog they have always been ace they made a kart game better then some mario kart one's 2 amazing platform franchise 1 is now in the gutter cause its in the hands of we cant make any decent games activision Game i dont want as GOTY is batman AC its overrated they just added more villains and semi open world on a amazingly small map and a 10 times crappier story then AA. Think rocksteady and Wb were to busy making plans to rip every gamer off, instead of making a good sequel with improvements like combat and stealth among others.
ign is not the only perfect score out there, so what's the problem??
EXACTLY!!!!!!!!!!!THANK GOD!!!!!! This would be a controversial review if IGN was THE ONLY ONE that awarded it a ten, but it isn't!!!!!!!!!!!
well said +1
Gaming journalists have forgotten what their job is. Delivering the results of a game to INFORM gamers about their purchases and represent what is in the interests of gamers NOT DELIVER THEIR OPINION ON THE GAME. Like how IGN thinks that "ITS PERFECT! NO FLAWS!!!!!!" and Eurogamer thinks "that the cinematic theory doesn't make a game". I know there is a fine line between opinion and the ability to inform, but think about it. Do we really care if IGN loves the game? Or if Eurogamer decides to be ultra picky with uncharted based on their theory? NO. We should be hearing about how the game stacks up to OTHERS LIKE IT, not how the reviewer feels. We should be hearing about what is existent in this game that sets it apart from the rest and does it do the basics well. We should be hearing GENUINE FLAWS FROM WITHIN THE GAME like AI, bad story, bugs, glitches, gameplay. Not Theories or that ITS AWESOME! Their job again is to INFORM, not provide their own personal opinions. Most gamers don't care if a game is cinematic or not, so why mark a game down because the cinematic "MIGHT" not make it fun according to one reviewers opinion? Whether you like a game thats cinematic or not is irrelevant to reviewing the game. If reviewers go into a review with their personal opinions you get a unfair review. That is why I LIKE that EA was sending out questions regarding battlefield history, fans or haters etc. People are tired of the crap!!!!!!
like how UC2 was a 7/10 after a few hours..?
Greg's doing coke. Uncharted's big set pieces on a lovely IGN budget TV screen, and a line of coke = 10/10. :p
every fanboy who's attacking IGN with the 10/10 for UC3 you guys need to know a simple fact : IGN IS NOT THE ONLY SITE WHO GIVE IT A 10/10 there is a reason why uncharted 3 now 94% and it will be game of the year you guys need to get over it
I hate these bias assholes. Uc3 deserves a 10 yes but they butt-f***ed other games. Im just mad how they gave lost odyssey a 7.5 and gave gears 3 only a 9 when gears 2 got higher and was of less quality.
becuase it's overrated as usual and IGn likes to suck d**** because this game also has a bunch of d*** sucking fans :P
