Sony Online Entertainment just announced that DC Universe Online will join veteran superhero MMORPGs Champions Online and City of Heroes on the hybrid business model bandwagon on November the 1st, 2011.
so does that mean i can finally trade it in?
yes, you can, even because your blu ray will be worth squat from november the 1st. You may want to run though, before Gamestop catches wind of that :P
but holy hell, 20GB?? there goes my free copy! :-( my slow connection will need a week for this at the least! damn...can't they pack it a little smaller?
Decisions like these wouldn't be easily implemented if Sony kept a tight leash on the PSN like Microsoft does with Xbox Live. So not only will $249 get you a brand new PS3, but it also means that you can go online, download say this game, and start playing, all at no additional cost. This is perfect for newcomers who want to get a taste of what gaming on PSN online feels like, newcomers with little resources or just enough money to only buy the console - all without paying any extra subscription fee or buying any games at all. This also makes me wonder why Microsoft doesn't do a similar thing. Their tight control over Xbox Live and how much content a game receives would make it hard for a MMORPG to receive frequent patches and other content. Team Fortress 2 anyone? As much as I love my Xbox 360 and Xbox Live, it would be awesome to have a free to play game that is available to sliver/free account holders, or something similar. Obviously that would never happen! Come to think of it, is there a free to play game on the Xbox 360? The point is a consumer jumping onto the console train for the first time would take all these factors into consideration before buying a PS3 or Xbox 360. Even more interesting if that consumer happens to be on a budget. Sure the game is 20GB, but they don't have to worry because even the cheapest PS3 has a pretty large hard drive.
@DA_SHREDDER - That's a trolling statement if I ever heard on but I didn't want to waste a bubble replying to it. EDIT: Nevermind dude, NOW I understand what your mean. My bad. Anyway, I think this could be huge for those of us that wanted to enjoy it on the PS3 (since it was designed with the DualShock control in mind) but didn't want to pay subscription fees. This going free to play reignintes my personal interest in the title, and I'm sure I'm not the only one the feels that way.
Yeah I'll try it out. Nothing to lose really.
20gb... that's a lot
my 500gb harddrive says hi to that haha
My 750gb HD gobbles those 20gigs and farts out another 10gb just for fun. Yea!!! Nov 1st... of course that is also Uncharted day, so I don't think I'll have a problem waiting for the 20gb download.
INB4 PC guy comes and brags about a SSD. lmao
Its over 9000!
My 1,000,000,000 gb harddrive can handle anything.
@meganick Your 1,000,000,000 GB hard drive can handle anything....except 1,000,000,001 GB.
I'm looking forward to this. Amazing what free will do.
This is what i've been waiting for. Good news for comic fans!
What do they mean? free as in no subscriptions but you need to pay to buy the game or free overall?
Free as in, no money in the equation.
free as in free to download and play, but pay if you want to have an advantage over free players
will be picking it up
I'm wondering if the legendary status is continual or a one time fee
you gotta keep paying to enjoy the perks...they are gonna knock down the total slots for add ons you can have, limit the amount of money, and the total number of characters. this is basically a stripped down version of the game, think Homefront Multiplayer Demo or Mag Demo.
Damn, I was gonna put the DLC for this towards my $60. Guess I'll buy something else and put my $10 toward this DLC!
And with all the updates to download before you can play no one will be able to play for free till Nov. 5th. /sarcasm
i remember i bought it a month after and hell if it didnt take me a day to download 2 damn updates
Guess it was a commercial failure?
I played a few weeks and canceled my subscription. I'm sure many others did the same.
Haze also failed to meet expectations and didn't sell well, you don't see Sony distributing free copies around, do you?
So can I go buy a used copy and play for free or was there some kind of online code that came with each copy which made the disc worthless to purchase used??
So, it's download only? That's not s- TWENTY GIGS?! That's a third of my last PS3 hard drive! Will have to try it out. Looking forward to it.
Wow surprise this is starting on tha release date of UnCharted 3.Going too beat UC3 SP then download DCUO.
Yes thats awesome news!!
If this was MS it would be so well advertised. Half of PS3 owners won't even know. MS would put on the box a "Includes Award Winning DC Universe FREE" or something. Or at least convince consumers that the're getting a great deal.
