Official EA statement regarding free Battlefield 1943 for the PS3 version

Gamer.Blorge writes, "The word on the Web was that DICE/EA decided to replace the free copy of Battlefield 1943 in exchange for the early map-pack deal exclusively for the PS3. This was backed by a vague tweet from the official Battlefield twitter page."

Gamer.Blorge writes, "However, some continued to speculate that Battlefield 1943 would eventually become available as a free downloadable.
I reached out to EA PR Manager, Snez Stojanovska for further clarification. According to Stojanovska, apparently this is a deal worked out with Sony."

So is Sony behind this mess? Or I could go with the conspiracy theory of blaming Microsoft.

The world will never find out.

"There seems to be some confusion around the Battlefield 1943offer and we’d like to clarify. We had originally planned to include Battlefield 1943on the disk but decided to replace that offer with new content that PlayStation fans can enjoy."

Nice, I rather have more content pertaining to BF3 than an old game as an add-on.

Anarki2486d ago

So we get week early content we have to pay for instead of things we get for free?

Biggest2486d ago

Why is everyone so excited/worried/whatever about 1943? It was already free with copies of Bad Company 2.

Emilio_Estevez2486d ago (Edited 2486d ago )

I'd rather have new content also, where is it? Oh yeah, it's not there. The 360 and PS3 versions contain the same thing. PR BS.

Yawnier2486d ago

Not everybody who has bought/going to buy Battlefield 3 has also bought Battlefield: Bad Company 2.

gamingdroid2486d ago

The question is what new content? It seems all EA have indicated is you got early access instead of content....

BattleAxe2486d ago

What a poor trade off. I don't think that PS3 players cared whether or not if they got the DLC a week or a month sooner then the 360.

Damn why don't people actually read articles? EA originally had planned to include in Battlefield 1943 on the PS3 disc but later changed it with diferrent content.

What I'm wondering though is why they couldn't do both:- have the game on the disc AND the content as well. It's not like they ran out of disc space.

Monolith2485d ago

Because they want your money instead of giving you a free game. why would they give both. your going to buy one of them regardless. this way now if you want 1943 you have to buy it, and if you want dlc you have to buy it a week early. And then they jerk us all off by saying ps3 gets it a week early to some how justify it like were getting this awesome deal and people fsll for it. Anyways BF3 is alright, been playing the single player a little, its alright. A little boring but its fun. Multiplayers awesome as usual though. Look at me ranting ill stop typing now. Have a good one.

Does anyone know when the back to karkland dlc is out then?

C_Menz2486d ago

At the earliest the end of November. Most likely the first week or two in December to produce more demand before the holidays.

Lior2486d ago

Owww man I thought it was gonna be out in like a week ow well

LOOK_AT_THIS_I2485d ago

I would think as close to launch of COD as possible. May help counter a few wandering souls who decide to look for new content who would pick up the dlc over a new game.

-Mika-2486d ago

I wish the 360 owners got the dlc a month later.

lorianguy2486d ago

I wish everyone got it at the same price at the same time. These deals are hurting no-one but the consumer.

Thank you for being the voice of reason.

theEx1Le2485d ago

That just sounds bitter and spiteful.

MGRogue20172486d ago (Edited 2486d ago )

Sony "owns" Battlefield 3

Microsoft "owns" Call of Duty & Modern Warfare 3.

lorianguy2486d ago

Pretty much.

Since Activision and Microsoft's Xbox platform are together, EA wanted to be with Sony and Microsoft's PC platform to improve it's competitive stance.

This gives fewer PC and PS3 sales for MW3 and fewer BF3 sales for Xbox. Not too shabby, eh?

SockeyBoy2486d ago

Pre orders where higher on xbox 360 with both MW3 and BF3. Where was I going with this...? DAMN IT! Oh well it will be interesting to see what the sales are on each console.

That comment sucked, i was going to say something differnet that was smart (well in my head anyway)

theonlylolking2486d ago

I hate how people think that way.

There is not nearly as big support on sony's part for BF3. M$ there are ads and videos about MW3 pretty much daily. M$ also has a major timed Dlc exclusivity that sony does not have with battlefield.

Sony supports BF more than COD but they dont support or "owns" nearly the same like M$.
