Digital Foundry: Batman: Arkham City Face-Off

Eurogamer: "Starting off, the first thing that visibly sticks out is the quality of the artwork on both formats: it's largely identical with very few differences between them. In comparison there were a fair few examples of lower resolution textures and paired back normal maps on the PS3 version of Arkham Asylum, which have now been taken care of. The alpha buffers are also rendered out in the same way on both formats - there's no drop in resolution on the PS3 - with smoke, fire and other effects looking identical.

Overall, the 360 version is indeed the slightly better performer of the two releases - par for the course when it comes to Unreal Engine 3. However, in general gameplay terms the differences count for little: Batman: Arkham City doesn't really rely upon quick, high precision reactions during gameplay - there's a fair amount of leeway in terms of timing when performing moves and context-sensitive actions."

Pretty much equal with some pick your poison. Summary:

Both have no AA so jaggies are there -no MSAA or SSAO- but PS3 has less edge shimmering and streams textures slightly better bar the odd bug. Both consoles have the pop-in regardless.

PS3 has more frame drops and tears however in stressful situations under the microscope but they say it's not really noticeable and is negligible to gameplay. 360 is pretty much optimised for anything running Unreal Engine 3, so there's nothing here no one expected. More bloom on 360 at times, more shadows on PS3 at others.

PS3 meanwhile has less pixel blur during 3D and supports DTS snd 5.1 LCPM if you swing that way. Like I said, pick your poison, sounds like a plus-minus tie overall. Good. No flaming for once. Right, heh?

It pretty much a tie between the two. Rocksteady did a very good job with this title and those who say otherwise are gay purple faiths who have their controllers shoved up their behind.

The Unreal 3 engine has never worked as well on the PS3 as it does on the 360. Congrats to Rocksteady for making the difference minimal.
