Like many other kids of my generation, I grew up on Nintendo. I rocked the Super Nintendo, I jammed out on the Nintendo 64, I played the Game boy like it was my job, and I loved every single second of it.
Wow, kinda hits the nail right on the head...I mean, Nintendo is a good company and all, but they really do try to emphasize gimmicks...
They are just being innovative. They could just come out with the same console every gen but with better graphics, but what's the fun in that?
Yeha, but whats the point of releasing a console with shit graphics, and motion controls that are done better not even 2 years later.
Those motion controls you are refering to hardly got itself up in the spot-light like Wii did. The point is that Nintendo has a better marketing sense.
You took the words right out of my mouth, even though I still posted a much longer explanation about how I feel about all this haha.
It's seem people can't make up there minds, here they complain about nintendo using the same frachises and never try anything new. But then when nintendo does try something different it's a gimmick? Are you serious you can't complain about things not changing, then turn around and complain when they do...
Um, they need 3rd party support. They just need to make games and stop selling us shit that is so worthless that its better off without it. i feel the Wii would have been much better if it was HD and wasnt motion control. hell, I used the GCN for any game that allowed it anyways
and where did that get them with GCN? Thats right, dead last. And where did "gimmicks" get them? First by a long shot, hell if I was nintendo, i would say screw you guys too because you clearly don't support them.
I love you Jirachi.
Uh... You can't be a salesman if you outright refuse to sell people things. I mean... Mother, Xenoblade, Pandora's Tower, Sin and Punishment (until the VC), Fire Emblem, the Last Story, Zangeki no Reginleiv, the sequels to Elite Beat Agents... The list goes on. But my obedience to the company doesn't.
Elite beat agents was a standalone western version of osu! Tatake! Ouenden (which did have a sequel), and never had a sequel because it sold so poorly.
Only confirming what the lot of us have been assuming for years.
Just because something is different does not make it a gimmick. And just because you don't like it does not make it a gimmick either. I personally believe the motion controls on Wii have improved the experience of the games on the system, and have provided something you cannot get on other platforms. Metroid Prime on Wii is still one of the most immersive games I have ever played, and nothing can change my mind about that. And then there's the whole waggle thing, sure I was right there with you all criticizing the waggle controls in the beginning. Then guess what happened? I figured out how to use it properly, which is with fine wrist movements. After I had that realization I have fallen in love with every Nintendo game on Wii, and even many 3rd party games. One more thing, graphics are not everything. A game could look beautiful yet be so shallow it's not even funny. I have honestly enjoyed my Wii more than my PS3 this generation and probably spent much more time playing Wii than PS3, although I have about the same amount of games for both systems. I could go on and on about why I love the Wii but I'll stop there since I know I'm gonna get disagrees regardless of what I say.
couldn't say better.. Wii has a lot of great games.. and I enjoyed it more than X360 and PS3.. though I have them and played most of exclusives and third party.. Wii has lots of great platformers and puzzle/ logical games + unique titles... Wii FTW! Call it gimmick or not I dont' care I love it, I remembet days when PS1 analogs where called a gimmick too, when people still where using D-pad.. :) still it's better to innovate than release console with same experience + better online & better graphics.. and you know what? I'll buy Wii U! ..why? because it will start new gen.. not in graphics, because not graphics & better gpx and more RAM are defiying new gen, but the whole new experience :)
people say gimmick like its a bad thing. Gimmicks are used to immerse the player into the game. Just like HD graphics are a gimmick
It's more or less experimentation. Nintendo likes to try new things. They resulted in things like analog joysticks, rumble, motion controls and saving gaming when it was on the brink of death in the early 80's. Besides, folks need to stop acting like wonky gimmicks have never been a part of nintendo before wii. NES was originally marketed with a dance mat and a little plastic robot that played with spinning tops. Their controller in japan for the famicom had a damn microphone, Powerglove, super scope, snes mouse, the zapper. They've always been this way.
Exactly, not only that but the reason nintendo added rob in the first place was back in the 80's the video game market crashed. Which lead to retailers not wanting to buy video game consoles,so nintendo pulled a genius move and added rob to market n.e.s as a toy.
I feel exactly the same way as the author. I too grew up with Nintendo and brought everything from the NES to the Wii. But I will not be buying a WiiU. I'm done with New Nintendo. I want the innovation to come from Nintendo's first party games, not from gimmicky controllers and under powered hardware. I love Mario and Zelda, but I wish they would create some new hard core games that where aimed at a more mature audience.
So something different/innovative = gimmick now? And why is "gimmick" all the sudden a bad word? All because something is a gimmick doesn't mean it's a bad thing. If the Wii was a gimmick then it was a good one that worked and sold 80 million + units...........so.......
need a fun fps with ninty characters! Each character having their own ability. Can be awesome.
Its a gimmick because it doesn't improve the game. Instead of concentrating on silly controllers, Ninty should be focusing on creating new IP. Hardware innovation should come from its graphics and power, not from its controller. The 360/ps3 pad has basically perfected controller based games. Added a screen is nothing but a gimmick, and one I believe will feel uncomfortable when playing compared to Sony and M$ pads. Until we can play VR games, we should stick to controllers in my book. Hell, the WiiU wouldn't be so bad if it only had some real next gen power under the hood. But like the Wii, Ninty are pushing 7 year old tech and overcharging for it again.
"Hell, the WiiU wouldn't be so bad if it only had some real next gen power under the hood. But like the Wii, Ninty are pushing 7 year old tech and overcharging for it again." It's fun making shit up, isn't it? Lol. You're stating something completely MADE-UP in YOUR delusional mind as a fact.
Wtf are you talking about? Early reports from the DEVELOPERS is that the Wii U is extremely powerful apparently you know more about that systems specs more than the people actually making games for it. If you think the next systems from Sony and Microsoft are gonna blow away the Wii U in term of power You are in for a rude awakening..Sony has all but confirmed that their next system won't be much more powerful graphically than the ps3..also the developers who have been impressed with the Wii U's power are still working with early development kits...specs aint even final yet..trust me it will be a lot more powerful than you think.
@ strobe31 Nes came out to compete with the 2600 mopped the floor with it graphically Snes'Gpu colors and scaling made the genesis look 8 bit N64 gpu was far superior to ps1 or Saturns over pixelated 32 bit crap Gamecube ran on a power pc structure which produced the best looking games of its gen even though in terms of raw specs like speed the xbox was slightly better the Wii/ds gen was the first that Ninty went for control over graphics..oh yeah and during all those years your right-they also continually refined control-so what are you talking about?
