Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and DC Entertainment today announcedthat Batman: Arkham City, the critically acclaimed videogame developed by Rocksteady Studios, has shipped more than 4.6 million units worldwide.
WOW, that is great news for rocksteady
yeah, pretty impressive. deserves it though. def one of the best games i've played all year. i guess that means we can expect another one. perhaps a bigger sandbox next time? Gotham City, maybe? i wanna be able to drive around in the bat mobile.
shipped != sales though. Would be more interesting to see how many sold. Count me in as one of those sales though, almost finished the game :)
congrats rocksteady i have not picked this up yet but so far hearing some amazing stuff. 1.Batman AC - 95% Metacritic 1.Portal 2 - 95% Metacritic remain the highest rated games this year. 2. Uncharted 3 - 93% Metacritic 3. Xenoblade - 93% Metacritic 4. Forza 4 - 91% Metacritic 5. Gears Of War 91% Metacritic Battlefield 3 only has 17 reviews so far with 93% Metacritic too. we seeing alot of amazing games this year and patiently waiting for Skyrim & Legend Of Zelda Skyward Sword. Wonder how they will fair.
Batman its 96 on PS3.
I agree but the PS3 version has less reviews.
Yeah, what's with that? I don't understand why the PS3 version has such few reviews.
Agreed... a lot of good content on both platforms.
You forgot LBP2 - 92%.
I like how you ignored LBP2's 92%. Oh and U3 is at 94% now and you also forgot BF3.
Uh, your top 5 is broken. Mass Effect2 PS3 and Uncharted3 are both at 94%, LittleBigPlanet2 is at 92% and ICO/SOTC is at the same 91% as Gears/Forza. derp
Well, so much for those petitions to ignore it.
huh? what petitions!? oh yeah....the DLC right?
@fallenangel its not really 96 its a multi-plat so u have to factor the critics score for the 360 so its 95 really but still a great game nonetheless.
i got one of those! Love this game even if the battle system gets a bit tiresome at times. There is just so much game here
i'll be apart of the sales soon as it releases on steam
Yeah I'm also waiting for this game to touch down on steam. I'm so pissed that I missed the sale on steam last week for the first game for 9.99
Wow that's big. Congrats rock steady
I was one of those sales, and its nice to see a great game receiving such sales figures I guess. I love how this game can appeal to people who just want a good action game and may not even know much about the Batman franchise.
Yes!! More Batman games!! ^_^
Now can you make a Superman game all ready.
For the love of god please let them make a Superman game, i'd love for another Batman game but I think RockSteady could be the only ones to make a good SM game.
I hope not superman sucks
I say they work on a different superhero, while they let batman seat for , gives them a chance to refresh the story.
wow, nice numbers. one week where Uncharted 2 did in it's lifetime.
Is that really necessary? Plus its multiplatform.
nope, just pointing out. Uncharted is the biggest, most advertised and most famous Sony franchise right now besides GT. it should've done better.
@ LoLZoRz Actually you're thing of GT. Exclusives don't tend to do these types of numbers. Also UC2 has 5m in its lifetime.
Why did you pick Uncharted? Oh right you're a fanboy.
2 things: uncharted 2, one platform, batman three.
Uncharted sales, 4.8 million sold to consumers.
Batman numbers shipped to retail.
Batman AC is still not out on PC I think. and still it doesn't matter if it's just shipped numbers, it's still only ONE week.
+bub for logic thanks.
Im pretty sure its going to sell more than uncharted 2 on the PS3 alone.
Uncharted is exclusive to 1 platform, batman is on 3.... stay in school and learn proper math, that is 3-1 scenario. -_- Plus there's a difference between SHIP and SOLD...to consumers.
Im pretty sure most consumers dont give a f**k how many copies of a game has shipped or sold.
Why are people disagreeing with your comments? You're not bashing Uncharted. In fact, you're praising it, even saying it deserves even more sales than it has (which it does). People jump to conclsuions too quickly on here.
So why are they on a article like this then ? Exactly what the hell was the point of you even responding ?
Dude, wtf? Settle down, seriously. I responded to him becuase people like you were not understanding what he was saying and jumping to the conclusion that he was bashing the Uncharted series when he wasnt.
I never bashed him, I just found that comparison ignorant and irrelevant to this article.
With prep time Batman always wins, no matter the odds. This is a universal truth to which even Chuck Norris agrees.
Thats a nice looking carbonara
That's more than I expected. Nice work and congrats to Rocksteady!
Thats a nice looking jelly
So happy for Rocksteady they deserve it!!! Now go make part 3 :P
"Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and DC Entertainment today announced that Batman: Arkham City™, the critically acclaimed videogame developed by Rocksteady Studios, has shipped more than 4.6 million units worldwide ..." A shipped copy isn't necessarily a sold copy. A shipped copy could be in a store on a shelf.
a copy that was bought by the retailer , and wont get a refund anyway . Why do you guys even get hung up upon such a detail that's near impossible to verify anyway ? If would matters with comics books that are refundable , and only affects next shipment orders for retailers .
Exactly Baka. Shipped is sold when it comes to software and most other products. Do people think retailers are on consignment? No, retailers pay for these products below MSRP and mark them up to full MSRP to turn their profit.
Once these products are in the hand of the retailers the publisher of the game has already made their money and it's consider sold. People caught up in sales should really learn to understand how it actually works before commenting on them.
Sold = game is being played Shipped = game may end up in a landfill As a gamer I don't consider adding to landfills to be a measure of a successful game even if the company who made the game was paid for their contribution. Story about Atari and a game called E.T. that dominated the "landfill" market: http://www.youtube.com/watc... Is E.T. a successful game in your opinion?
Come on let's not get cute ... how many games do you know since ET that flooded the market with shipments no one wants ? probably none precisely . Today's shipments are closely accurate enough to the sold items . The retail market has become careful enough and quickly adjust in positive and negative ways . Those are the guy that need to care if a game is shipped or sold .
VGChartz looks at sold instead of shipped and this is what they are reporting for the first week for Batman in north america: Batman: Arkham City (xbox) 589,761 Batman: Arkham City (ps3) 536,459 That's a little over 1.1 million in sales. If they shipped 4.6 million copies then 3.5 million copies are not accounted for. Some of those will be foreign sales but considering that north america is largest market it's very unlikely those can account for significant portion of the remaining 3.5 million shipped copies. Gears of war 3 sold more than twice as much in north America then the rest of the world. If the same is true for Arkham city (this is pure speculation) then the foreign sales are likely about half a million. A speculative estimate would put the sales at about 1.6 million (approximately 33% of shipped units). If the sales don't pick up dramatically in the next week or so Batman Arkham City may end up being a game that flooded the market with copies that no one wants. I really hope that Batman Arkham City does well and that the 4.6 million shipped copies turn into sold copies. The point I was making is sold is not the same as shipped which we both agree on but you seem to think they are close so it doesn't matter and I think that sometimes they aren't close. Either way nothing we discuss now will resolve this issue. In the upcoming months when the sales numbers of Batman Arkham City are known we see how close the 4.6 million shipped units is to the sales numbers.
I want a Booster Gold Game. Please Rocksteady. :)
Why do I find this hard to believe, unless these are shipped numbers, not sold.
According to the LA Times (via Joystiq), 2 million copies were sold, 4.6 million shipped. http://www.joystiq.com/2011...
Congrats Rocksteady. Love your work and you guys have a awesome future in the videogames industry. Deffo one of the best devs this gen.
Amazing news, I love it when great games have great sales numbers
And I dislike it when horrid games sell well due to marketing. XperiaRay
Good for these guys. Their game is nothing short of impressive.
Great game it deserves those sales. I have the PS3 version and the visuals are great and it plays real smooth. Finally the voce acting is fantastic the story top notch and the combat is amazing. " What is black and white and red all over?" A penguin who got shot. XperiaRay XperiaRay
