Did The Battlefield 3 Beta Hurt Sales? No It Just Affected The Stupid People

There have been many interpretations about how the Battlefield 3 beta actually affected sales, did it decrease potential sales numbers or did it increase them. Many people believe that the beta was too buggy and could have caused many people to doubt the release version of this game.

i didnt even read this article, but the beta for me it ruined the excitement i had for it. I guess goin from a fast paced shooter like Resistance 3 to BF3 sucked. Felt like all did is die running around lookin for peeps to kill see no one & get shot from a guy laying in the grass. SO I'll PROB PASS ON IT. Just an opinion so dont gettin all 8UTTHURT.

I understand that it's your opinion. But you said it 'all I did is die running around looking for peeps to shoot' it bf not cod. If you were to run around a real battlefield you too would die fast. Bf series plays differently. You need a bit more wits about you and less sprinting about. It's not for everyone, that's why there are many styles of shooters. Try it again some time but take your time. Try moving with purpose and wait for the kill

Yeah, they should just use the retail version to do final testing like they did with MW2. I recall that took months to get things right.

Betas serve a purpose. Problem was EA and Dice had been talking things up for months and the beta failed to come close to the hype.

^^DICE wasn't the one "talking things up" it's always been EA's pr. EA wants Battlefield 3 to be better than MW3, while DICE really just wants BF3 to be a true sequel to BF2.

If you ask me, the Beta sold me on the game completely. I loved it, but if anyone thought it was reminiscent of the final product, you are, as the article title suggests, stupid.

My main issue was how terrible it was (not gameplay wise) and how close it is was to release. Once DICE stated the Beta build was a month old, a weight had been lifted.

If a company releases a "beta" a few weeks before release, and never states how old the build is, one can only assume the final product won't have everything fixed. This is why "betas" need to take place MONTHS before release, not a few weeks. Gears 3 beta is a perfect example.

Especially if you got to try it on PC and play the Caspian Border map. It had none of the technical problems of Op Metro (maybe it was a newer build?) and was a much better representation of what true Battlefield is. I feel sorry for my console brothers who didn't get to experience it. But, have faith: DICE takes feedback seriously and the game is going to be great on all platforms (just like BFBC2).

Agree man. Metro was a meh choice..but caspian pumped up my hype meter. Its ashame the console didn't get to try it. Still a few console friends will be pickin the game up because of the beta.

yeah a buddy of mine played the beta then preordered mw3. doesnt bother me, it just changed some minds. if people would just research they would know the beta had to be submited 1 or 2 months before it could be aproved and get the go ahead. shitty map as well, but there will be some kickass maps im sure, with tanks and shit. but yeah some people are stupid. maybe they need brainless games like cod

I do actually know a few ppl who canceled their pre order and not for mw3, just because of the number of other great games releasing. I believe though, that they will all ultimately get it. My only concern was the graphics. The gameplay is amazing but it didn't look any better than bfbc2 to me on the one map we were provided. I heard about a texture pack and w something similar for rage, i got excited, but i guess at 2 gb install, it isn't going to b like Rage. I guess w all the hype, i imagined a game looking better on console than k3 & crysis 2 but IMO it wont change much from the beta. As a console owner, i will suffer in that dept. for superior gameplay, which I'm happy w. My bubble has just deflated a little. I know the campaign will look better but cmon, that's not why I'm buying it...that's why i bought Batman and am getting skyrim and u3. It will b the best multiplayer of the year but will b the first game since da origins to get 2 separate review scores from most reviewers. My best guess would b 10/9, PC/console and that would b a huge difference. I guess I'm still psyched but not as much, and w Batman, skyrim and u3, it will have to b much smotther than the beta to Garner the majority of my time.

Devil's advocate here; who can blame people for being worried after the buggy beta. Anyone remember bad company 2. That launch was a disaster. It took DICE a month after release to fix those issues. Oh, and calling people stupid for liking COD is pretty stupid.

Its not stupid to put your money towards games you know are worth it. So far B3 has everything to prove to warrant gamers to hand over their money. With so many great games all releasing around the same time the B3 beta was not exactly a convincing reason to not buy something more proven in its place.

I would say its more stupid to praise something without knowing what the final product is like.

And that is what I am talking about when people have no idea what a beta is. It is for testing purposes. Not a demo, which IS what you can use as a credible representation of what the final build wil be. Demos are used to make people buy, not betas. So I repeat, I do not feel sorry for the stupid people who have no idea what a beta is. Especially one that restricted access to a lot of what the final build will offer.

How do you not know what the final product will be? Has there been a shortage of BF3 gameplay videos lately? Did BF:BC2 not happen? Is BF2 a rumor? The only way that anyone could believe that the BF3 beta was the final game is plain ignorance or willfull hatred toward the game.

@sith: that's right, so many other great games released, reviewed and scored highly but I should not buy those in favor of B3. Or maybe, I should just buy them all because I have a limitless supply of moneys. Yep and your going to find out that there's a lot of stupid people. Well stupid to the article writer and everyone who agrees with him but to the people like me that the beta put off purchasing, well yous are the stupid ones for buying something as broken and horrible as the beta was.

Oh don't give me it was a beta crap. Even I said that through the MOH beta and the game was still broken one year after its release. This gen I beta tested dozens of games because I'm an EU beta tester on the Playstation forums. No game changes that much from the beta. Yeah they'll fix some bugs and do some balances to the game based on beta information but when a beta is as broken as the BF3 one was then they always launch with problems especially when the beta takes place just weeks before the retail version releases.

Most people know its a beta but it still put them off. It was a huge disappointment. There was nothing amazing about that Metro map. Seemed like a bad COD-clone with bigger maps.
But it isn't, me and you know that. Why did DICE not choose Caspian Border for the beta? Did they think the Metro map would impress COD players? It didn't. And that glitches and bugs didn't help either.

I will buy sniper 2 as well over mw3. Its all about BF3. There are more COD bitches than BF3 master elites out there, so unfortunately mw3 will take the money, but it will not take the win cause we all know that bf3 is the better game by far.
