Multiplayer is ruining the video game industry

Nick from Digitally Downloaded writes "If a game is designed with multiplayer in mind, then so be it – but to merely include multiplayer because it’s what’s hot on the market? That speaks of nothing more than desperation to make a quick buck. Developers should be happy to stand by their products, multiplayer or no, and their publishers and shareholders should give them the support they deserve to make that come true."

worst part is, they think of online multiplayer as a separate genre.

Its only a seperate entity if brain cells are occasionally employed to play outside of first person shooters.

Content is often sacrificed for multiplayer (only a certain amount of time can be put into any product) and when it is not done well, then the authors point is entirely justified.

Uncharted 2 and 3 proves that multiplayer does not ruining the video game industry.

Amazing Single Player, best what we wanted, plus awesome multiplayer to have fun :)

It might not be the multiplayer, but something is clearly ruining your ability to speak/type in English.

I personally am a huge fan of the Uncharted Series, bought the first game on day one and loved every minute of it.
Still loved the second game but not quite as much as the first, why? The multiplayer ruined the experience for me. I don't know why because it has no impact on the single player. Thing is though I hated the multiplayer, so that meant that I hated part of a game that I wanted to love, therefore kinda sullying (no pun intended) the whole game for me.

I'm sure Uncharted 3 will be amazing too, but I'm just not as hyped for it as was for the first game and that's because I have played the multiplayer beta and friggin hated it, so again I hate a part of a game that I want to love, it's a bit like having a girlfriend who is otherwise perfect but has one tiny flaw that just kinda ruins the whole thing.

Multiplayer is Great fun. I do like variety in the Multiplayer games i play, Like your example of castle crashers, that game is just straight up Awesome.

Multiplayer= A lot of replay value which for some people means they will buy less games so in total save cash.
Example, A Few of my PSN friends only buy Call Of Duty and nothing else, Idk who in the right mind would do that but hey, they are saving money so theirs that.

Does Uncharted 2 need multiplayer? No it won great awards just on it's singleplayer the Multiplayer was just an added bonus that some actually enjoyed me being one of them.

GTA 4 is just another great example of a game that did not need multiplayer but it worked. Hell of fun to play with your buds.

I think multiplayer is only ruining games that are heavily story driven or made for singleplayer. But in some cases such as Battlefield, the multiplayer is the biggest part.

Battlefield didnt even have a singleplayer back in the day, but now they seem to throw a half ass sp campaign on it and send it out, just like what Singleplayer games are doing with mp.
