VelocityGamer Writes: Now Mass Effect 3 is on the chopping block to tack on multiplayer and it's time to make the case for separating these conjoined twins for their own health.
Not every game needs to have multiplayer...of any kind. I don't need to battle people online, I don't need other to join in on my quest and most importantly, I don't need it degrading the quality of single player by taking away valuable resources; Time, Money, etc.
I'd rather have coop missions in ME3 than the planet scanning from ME2. From the ign article it looks like it's gonna be replacing that in one way or another since your end goal is easier or different if you do the coop missions but you can skip it if you want.
Exactly I.E Lost Planet 2 (single player is crap), so as F.e.a.r 3 (single player is disappointing)
Yeah singleplayer just bores me personally .
So then how did you play games pre-PS360?
Single player and multiplayer hybrids like Demon's Souls and Dark Souls proves that you can have both simultaneously.
Ya? And how many games like that are around? Oh u edited your comment..
Yes, I thought that bit was unneeded. Gotta respect opinions.
Too bad Dark Souls MP is such a broken mess.
That I got to admit. Demon's Souls system was better. They messed up this time with the random server designation and causing lag when people are on the opposite end of the earth.
I didn't liked Demon's Souls MP any better... I have the platinum for it, but quite frankly I did 90% of it offline! When you want some Co-Op you need to wait to be picked up or wait for some Blue to drop a stone. It can take too much time, specially since servers are broken down by region of the copy and much more lately since many people simply stopped playing, those who still play focus more on PvP. When you wanted to have a friend in your session you needed to assemble a meeting in some place no one else will disturb, you two need to be around the same level and if anything goes wrong you have to start over... I just wanted some friendly multiplayer, not a date! LOL And we should be able to choose when to PvP. I know there are Red Stones for that, but Black Phantoms are party crashers... Just when you are focusing on PvE, some PvP dedicated build invades and even when you get around killing them, you waist time and resources doing so, just to get invaded again... It's a good concept, but annoying after sometime. We should be able to turn it off at least. It's just my opnion through... I guess it's great for people who like MMORPGs.
I say that mp-games like bf and cod drop the campaigns to put resources into the useful part. Their sp's are afterthoughts. And sp games need to drop the mp like ME and Deadspace to make the campaigns longer.
Eh, different strokes for different folks. I don't mind multiplayer in a normally single player game as long as it's all done with quality like Uncharted 2 and comparable games. Similarly, I don't mind a decent single player on a normally multiplayer game like the upcoming BF3. If devs think they can half ass one, the other or both, it's time to start voting with your wallet and let them know how unhappy you are buy not buying their products. As long as people keep eating the crap, they will keep shoveling it at you.
Exactly. There are a few multiplayer games that ARE the games to play. Eg. Battlefield, Halo, Call of Duty, and others. While some games should be strictly singleplayer like bioshock, assasin's creed, etc.
Great... 2 stinkin bubbles and I double post...
No it's not. It's only that some games don't need MP. No need to start makes bold claims. This article is based on nothing since we have no idea whether or not the MP in Mass Effect 3 is going to be any good. If it turns out to be pretty good this guy is going to look like an idiot. Uncharted 2 did it and it turned out fine, stop acting like it's the end of the world. We'll find out whether this was a good idea next year when we actually play it.
I like the idea of having them separate. I mostly play games for the single player experience. I'll dabble with the multiplayer portion a little bit, but not very much. Unless it's a must-have game for me, then I'll wait for a price drop because I don't like spending $60 for a game that I'll only play half of it.
what i find most amussing with all these mass effect posts is how EVERY haters seems to know, months ahead of the release, NOT HAVING PLAYED A SINGLE MINUTE OF THE GAME, that the SP will be worse because of MP. I just find it absurd... Ask any Uncharted fan if they think the SP on U3 will be ruined, or that Naughty Dog is not putting the proper effort in it, because it has MP... really ask away, i doubt any Uncharted fan doubts even for a second that the SP in Uncharted will be amazing. Then we have some mass effect fans that seem truly looking forward to complain and critic based on nothing more than ASSUMPTIONS that everything that Bioware has said about MP is a lie and that it will definitely affect SP and now everything will suck....
That's because uncharted 3 doesn't look like it has a hacked on multi player but with actual effort put in.
oh so i guess you have seen or played the MP right??? or the fact that they have an entire studio working on the MP looks to you like a lack of effort
I'm all over this, co-op mass effect is a dream come true. If it is like horde I will be playing this for ages. I think this article artificially dumbs down online content to a single entity, CoD/BF3 style and Gears/Halo horde style and general co op are completely different. I encourage developers to experiment in connecting SP experiences going forward, innovation won't come if they don't.
im not against multiplayer, but what I as a consumer feel strongly about is why should i have to pay for both when im never going to touch the multiplayer? same with some who never play single player, just multi. why should we pay full price for both if that whole portion is never going to be touched? i would love to pay 29-39 bucks for just the single player. the only multi i ever play is fighting games. I hope publishers give us the option some day. its true the single player does suffer because of multi. you know UC3 was shorter because of all the time put into multiplayer.
Agreed, SP and Multiplayer should be sold seperate. Sell the SP portion on disc for all games for a cheaper price, maybe half of 2/3 of the current price, and then have the MP portion as DLC. That way both parties win, and SP fans pay a cheaper price.
Me3 multi player will be dead within three months when games wtih much better multi player features release, tacked on multi player does not make one re-playable.
Don't care on MP that much, let's hope they don't drop the ball with SP by concentrating and wasting resources on MP too much.
Yeah let's separate em so we can be charged full price for half a game, twice, plus DLC, access to online, and sequels that should have just been DLC in the first place.
I don't know why people worry so much when multiplayer is added to a franchise. You have to give the developers some credit too.Not every game will turn into the COD series, with 5-6 hours of single player.I'll be honest,my worries about the same issue came undone after Naughty Dog released Uncharted 2,which showed that a developer wouldn't needlessly sacrifice a great campaign.
