Want To Know Why Halo Doesn't Have Iron Sights?

GameInformer: Halo is one of the preeminent shooters, which makes it an easy target for critics. One of the things people have asked about the series over the years is why Bungie or 343 Industries hasn't incorporated iron-sights aiming. As it turns out, there's a pretty reasonable explanation.

Because it's halo, not a friggin military shooter. Believe it or not, it would be impossible to replicate the mechanics of halo with iron sights. The whole game, shooting, running, jumping, etc would not be the same.

I mean how would you use the needler the same with iron sights?

This, and it allows more creativity with weapon design.

firefoxmccloud2623d ago

It is a military shooter. It's not a tactical shooter.

Halo and iron-sights just...don't seem to go together.

badz1492623d ago

how would you know that? nobody has tried it before.

common sense dawg-_-
all u have to do is picture call of duty or battlefield with halo characters and objects.

Chnswdchldrn2623d ago

well its just the sort of game that doesnt have iron sights, just like many valve shooters. They just work better without them

Frank's answers only apply to MP but do absolutely nothing to address the SP campaign, where pacing and AI are all scripted. So why no red dot sight in the campaign? Simply changing the difficulty can dramatically alter how you choose to run'n'gun anyways, so the exclusion of iron sights in SP hardly helps preserve the pacing when you're on Legendary.

Same with the "bigger sandbox" argument. Doesn't apply to the Halo 3 campaign. It ain't Crysis or Battlefield. Remember Crow's Nest in Halo 3? It was all tight corridors and backtracking. And when it does open up a bit, you telling me an ACOG would break the game against all the waves of Carbine Brutes and Chieftans hiding behind shields on the high ground in the Motorpool? That part is all ranged fighting, unless you want a godly hammer up the skull lol. Be serious O'Connor.

in game lore reason why too.

It could work, maybe a button change for zoom....I dunno, R3/L3 are my least fav buttons.

I think a iron sights (scope) could work in halo for the guns that already have a scope. That being said, Spartans wouldn't need to steady assault rifle with aiming down the barrel because they're so strong and have crazy good vision - kick back shouldn't be an issue.

Also, you need to remember that in Halo the people with good aim hardly need to scope aim (unless the opponent is really far) because Halo kills involve more skill than most shooters that reward pray and spray, or a burst shoot the enemy anywhere approach because precise aim is rewarded WAY more in Halo.

In Halo the winner is the guy with better aim most of the time, not the guy who spotted the other guy first like most other FPS MP.

Completely agree with your closing comments. Halo really does involve a lot more skill than most other FPS games online, rather than just being the first one to see and/or shoot at the enemy. Thats what sets it apart from other shooters (sadly, thats also why a lot of people like to bash it).
