Whatever Happened To The Wii Vitality Sensor?

Do you guys remember back in 2009 when Nintendo announced it was working on a new peripheral, dubbed the Wii Vitality Sensor? I somewhat do. I mean, I wrote a What If on the damn thing. But whatever happened to the little sensor that got no love? I think it might have been mentioned at Nintendo's E3 2010 conference (I honestly have no idea) and it seems that the peripheral has completely fallen off the face of the earth. So what happened to it?

Does anyone really care what happened to it? I mean, it was a really dumb idea...

I disagree.
Since it reads actual "data" from your body. It can be used to shift the game-dynamically to how you feel.

This would be perfect for horror games.

Ideas are only dumb if there is no use for it.

if the sensor was a controller feature like rumble and sixaxis that would be great, but as a life support finger clamp it won't work you need your index fingers to use the shoulder buttons. Of course you've got your ring finger and pinky, so put an alligator clip on one of them, play a game (preferably an FPS or TPS) obviously the game won't change to your mood but see how it feels if it's annoying or intrusive.

I love the fact people are just making stuff up without even trying.

We don't know how well this thing could work.Or how "annoying" it will feel.
So why write it off now.

MidnytRain2469d ago

Dude, it probably wasn't going to do any of that anyway.

it's safe to assume that it's DEAD! with Ninty shifting their focus to 3DS and WiiU, there's no way this will ever see the light of the day!

ChickeyCantor2470d ago (Edited 2470d ago )

At least I can see the potential.
Unlike so many here who call it off directly and call it dumb.

It's not my fault that you people see no use for it.
Most people here don't see the potential in many products and call it "gimmicky" and "dumb" yet game-developers seem to come up with some clever stuff.

somethings are best left on the drawing board.

Short and to the point, and so true. This seemed like it was gonna bring something new to the table, yet hasn't so far and it's been over 2 years.

The health + safety risk is beyond imaginable. Ouch!

I want a similar device that gives you electirc shocks to the sack to replace the rumble feature oopps typing out loud. Operation tingle bag 1 launch game, i can smell burning hair dlc.

Since it would leave one of your hands unusable, and therefore limiting your a single Wiimote (you obviously couldn't hold the Nunchuk when your other hand is occupied), the benefits this may have had to certain genres is nullified.
