Rebooting a beloved franchise is never easy, and Doom 3 is living proof of that - after all, how do you follow up on a game that effectively kick-started the now dominant first-person genre? It did so by moving in a different direction. Doom 3 was designed as a far scarier and more atmospheric experience than its predecessors. While the original Doom games had their own twisted and dark environments to explore, they were certainly more action-oriented and faster paced. In Doom 3, players crept through pitch-black bases while fighting off zombies and demons that burst from closets and doorways, requiring quick reactions to stave them off.
