Rumor – Microsoft using Silverlight toolset for Xbox Live TV and dashboard TV update

VG247 writes: An unnamed source has told GigaOM.comMicrosoft’s using an updated version of Silverlight dev tools with Xbox TV. According to the source, the toolset – codenamed Lakeview – is not only still in development, but is still being modified, which is causing the developers behind the Xbox TV app to retest on a weekly basis. Lakeview, once perfected, could also be used by third-parties to create more 360 applications.

The story is too old to be commented.

It will use HTML 5 Video-Streaming / Silverlight / Javascript like the new Mango OS, this was known for some time now by Developers/indie Developers.

Can somebody please show me the advantages of using Microsoft Silverlight!

I installed once....long time ago but saw no advantages......only countless updates! Anyway I stopped using I.E. but I still wonder what the fuss was all about!

I believe they are fundamentally the same, but both are better at some things than the other. A few important reasons microsoft is probably using siverlight over flash other than it being theirs are possibly:

smaller install
uses C# and visualbasic (very important, means devs don't need to get more coders for actionscript)
it is currently being used for WP7 and Win 8.

All i really know is according to a lot of people I've talked to siverlight is better than flash for devs but because it isn't installed on as many computers it isn't used as much.

End user wouldn't see the difference or care.

When comes to MS... Silverlight is theirs, so they don't have to pay Adobe to use Flash.
