Famed industry analyst Michael Pachter believes it’s hard to predict just how successful Wii U will be at launch.
lol, looks like Pachter's crystal ball is a little hazy today.
Call of Duty Modern Warfare Triple Pack Enhanced Remake Edition at $49.99 + Super Mario Bros U. ..... Aren't I a marketing genius? :P
Actually this is the best prediction he has made since years. And this time he may not be wrong. i loled
That's not a prediction but a conclusion.
I just cant see the wii U being a success not even close to the wii. An i bought a wii but wont be buyin the wii U.
I agree, Nintendo needs to step it up and give more information about the SYSTEM...We know Nintendo, "but tehz haxorz controller we have 4 u, lookz!" I have a special place in my heart for the big "N", but I just so want them to go back to their roots a little...I dream of a Zelda in UC3 or better graphics.
Do people really take this guy seriously?
i think unless you pre-order you will not get a wiiU and by christmas time the year of release you may forget about it, they will be selling for double the price they should be on ebay because the shops have none on the shelf. lol
doubt it i think a lot of people learned their lesson with the wii, i know i did looking for countless weeks for a dam wii only to be disappointed when i had it in my home
yea you still knew what you were buying when it came to hardware when u bought the wii tho? u got it because of the motion not the graphics , and by now we sure know the wiiU is gonna have graphical power that shuld please any gamer then add the new second screen control. it will sell no doubt
negative i didn't care about the motion I'm a big fan for smack bros series and after i found i bought brawl and hated it, i sold it
Probably because the answer isn't so obvious like every other one of your "predictions"
Shouldn't it be easy to predict for somebody who's career revolves around predicting things? :/
well considering its a console that is 5-6 years too late, is going to host a bunch of games we can play on the systems we already have, and nintendos track record of releasing 1-2 metroid and zelda games a gen, i see the wii-u in a tight spot the only ppeople who will benefit from the wii-u are the people who played wii only and missed out on the ps3 and 360. otherwise im sure that wii-u wont have that many exclusives and reasons to play the newer games like ninja gaiden 3 on that console
Just like the wii...oh wait :/
Please explain how a console that's has a prototype significantly more powerful than PS3, has devs like Crytek saying its much stronger than PS3/360. Not to mention those games you can play on the systems you have in 720p, inferior controls ans with out the special game mode the WiiU version with have
I think it may do well, I'm buying one
The Wii U will be a failure and sell poorly IMO
I think the sky is purple and water is lava IMO. ( see how that works? )
Awwww pick up your dress and quit crying about your spilt tea See how that works lady?
I think it all comes down to a price point. Wii U is a Wii HD IMHO, I think it's what people were asking for all along, so why wouldn't it be successful? If it's under $400 then I can see it selling very well. I do think Nintendo is in a bad spot though, much like the Dreamcast was, because the next generation is probably 2-3 years away and they will only have a tween console. By then they could have sold 50 million units though, so you never know. If it's $299-$349 I'll definitely get one.
wouldnt be successful because this is what the wii should have been, not gamecube graphics during an HD era, then towards the end of this gen cycle they decide to release the wii hd? come on. it will be nice to see zelda in HD but that should have BEEN happened. in 5 years when the ps4 and 720 are out people will feel ditched with the wii-u because again they are left behind technologically. i mean the wii u is going to try to be successful late into a multiplatform generation. everyone has a ps3 annd 360 by now so only reason to get a wii hd is for zelda mario and all the same iterations nintendo releases every console
I have to disagree, the Wii sold very well and wasn't HD because frankly hardly anyone had an HDTV back in 2006. We are currently still at less then 50% world wide for HDTV's in homes. Nintendo has never had the most powerful console, but always makes profit due to cheaper costs and they win almost every generation that way. They have the best first party titles, and a lot of money to spend because they make so much money. Wii U will be fine, as long as Nintendo supports it, it'll do very well, curiosity will get the best of a lot of people.
graphics in 5 years arent going to be so much dfferent according to animators and people in the industry. real gamers WOULD wanna upgrade to better gameplay and graphics and possibly online plus nintendo exclusives
Duh. Two Game Cubes duct taped together... figgin' killed everybody! Out of nowhere in last place last generation Nintendo came back and s-l-a-y-ed everyone! Right here and right now, " The Wii U is gonna be GIGANTIC."
If you ever needed proof Pachter is nothing but fluff, there you have it. He's having trouble predicting the PAST.
Ultimately, games are going to make or break the system, I mean proper games not tech demos and games that are already going to be a year old by the time the system launches and are played to death... it than has the issue of keeping up with the next Sony and Microsoft consoles.
before it was totally shit and doomed to failure
I'm putting myself on record as wiiU being a flop. In talking about Nintendo's wishes for it. They are looking at it to fix the poor 3DS sales world wide & fix shareholder confidence. The market had moved on to other mobile devices & Sony/MS gave Ninny a free ride for sure on Wii. But more importantly, the demographic Ninny created isn't in it for graphics! They got their Wiis. Those who wanted more...got ps3/360's.
yeah you go on the record because wall street was waiting for your prediction so they can dump nintendo shares, fool.
So now he doesn´t even bother to make a guess?!? How does this guy have a job? (although, how did G.W. Bush get a job really?)
How do most reviewers have jobs this gen? I've played countless games that I KNOW are good....bit got horrible reviews. Most recent? Rage & Spidey: edge of time. Both are really good. Both are devoid of technical issues (except rage's popin....which isn't as bad as many unreal engine games). I just rely in friends and my own intuition. Lol
Predicting the future tends to be quite a difficult thing to do.
The Wii U might do somewhat well, but as well as the Wii? Idk about that
last month he predicted it was going to fail
You guys underestimate the casuals. You may think "Oh its just a screen on a controller, the casuals wont buy that!" but I also thought "the wii just has a remote, the casuals wont buy that!" or "Kinect has no buttons! The casuals wont buy that!" I guarantee you this will push 60 plus million units
Quite a bold prediction considering only two of Nintendo's home consoles have sold over 60m. Even if it sells 60m it would fall considerably short of the Wii.
Much like the Wii's motion controls were designed to garner interest among casual gamers, the tablet-esque controller of the new system is aimed squarely at the fastest growing segment of gaming: females (ages 18-35). But it also features as many buttons as a standard controller for the core gamer; Wii peripherals are backwards compatible too, including the classic pro, thus ensuring a wide variety of customization from the onset. The next gen may truly be a decade long affair seeing as how 1080p on televisions will be a technological barrier for quite some time. If Nintendo delivers a console capable of native 1080p @ 30FPS w/ 2xAA, they'll get those core IPs from 3rd parties. They've already announced the console will use an optical format of 25gigs and the ability to use external HDDs. So I like where we're headed. If they can launch at $349USD and do a price drop of $50 when the next competitor launches, they'll also retain the huge price advantage they enjoyed with the Wii. I made the mistake of counting Nintendo out last gen and I'm in no hurry to repeat that mistake.
^ Nintendo's release schedule is a bit messed up which is why I cant see the WiiU being a runaway success like the Wii. I agree that 1080p is here to stay so by the time WiiU gains traction Sony/MS will release their consoles capable of 1080p @ 60fps with more textures/detail than WiiU. Also we know those two buy exclusives so they have a fixed supply of IPs ready for their systems.
I'm buying one becuse it will do well in my opinion. The second screen will be a huge selling point.
Patcher's word are making sense. It's the end of the world, or he's lazy today.
I think pachter's been drinking from the dog's bowl again.
Major hit franchises such as 2D/3D Mario, Mario Kart, Mario Party, Smash Bros, Paper Mario, Zelda, DQ X, and key 3rd party games they moneyhatted for like that Lego City game, and X casual game included with the console will push a lot of Wii Us. Will it sell more than Wii? Who knows but I think selling over 50 million will be a sure thing with those popular franchises.
