GB : CliffyB shares his wisdom with the world.
The mom test is awesome!
Like Kinects and stuff.
with almost no 1st party studios it was clear that M$ don't care any more about the xbox fans next gen is ps4 for me
"it was clear that M$ don't care any more about the xbox fans" I just want you to know that Sony will only "care" about the "hardcore" PS3 fans if there's money in it for them. And when some big audience comes along that doesn't care about hardcore games, Sony will drop you like it's hot, and won't look back. Therefore, stop playing sides.
@kaveti6616 no no no i didn't say : "sony never do wrong or they are not after money" they are as evil as M$ but the thing is sony please every one the hardcore fans and the casual fans you will always find on ps console a game for every one and every age sony's 1st party studios are doing an incredible job for the playstation fans and that's my point
@kaveti: You're obviously wrong, and this gen has already proven it. Obviously the casual market has made Nintendo incredibly wealthy, and knowing that has Sony abandoned the core like MS have? Nope, not at all. If anything, they've done everything they could to strengthen their core offerings. So yeah, stop spouting crap.
Sony makes off money by pleasing us hardcore gamers. MS makes money off by abandoning hardcore gamers. Yes, both companies make money, but Sony does it by sticking to their core customers not abandoning them. EDIT @DRagonKnight exactly. Sony decided to make money by serving their cores.
Why do you take the time to write MS as "M$" but don't take the time to write Sony as "$ony"? Is it because you're under the delusion that Microsoft only cares about money while Sony cares about something else? The fact of the matter is that no corporation does anything for any reason other than money. Money is the only reason. If Sony does something that doesn't immediately contribute to money, it is because Sony is doing that something to contribute to their public image, so that in the not-too-distant future, they will get money out of it. Sony doesn't care about the hardcore audience. If Sony releases a statement saying that they care about the hardcore audience, it is for two reasons. 1) Sony foresaw that they would be unable to successfully break into the "casual" market so they decided not to jump into that market. 2) Sony wants the people who consider themselves to be "hardcore" gamers to think that Sony cares about them. Thus, if they say they do, their public image among that group increases. Once again, Sony never did anything for you out of love, respect, honor, gratitude, or any other virtuous reason. Not only that, Sony never did anything for you for free. If they gave you something for "free," they were actually purchasing your trust and loyalty. My goal here is not to be fanboyish, but simply to pull you out of your irrationality.
Sony is making money from SERVING HARDCORE GAMERS. MS is making money from abandoning hardcore gamers. There is no way around it. i LOLED at your delusional number 1 and 2. Customer loyalty has been around for a long time.It has been popularized by tobacco companies. basically what this means is that company serves their customers extremely well in the past present and in the future. So that their customers will stick around and keep buying their stuff. Yes, both company is out to make money, but Sony is doing it right by keep supporting their hardcore. While MS did this by screwing up current hardcore gamers who already bought Xbox 360.
Hey, man. I'm sorry I disturbed your bubble.
But are you seriously defending MS for abandoning hardcore gamers? That is some dedication... Well, no matter how you cry. its the same. MS abandoned their hardcores who have been following them for years.
How is MS abandoning hardcore gamers? Last I checked, there are plenty of games for the Xbox 360. Not only that, but we are also about to get new game related features with the new dash as well. Forza 4 is about to be released, Gears 3 is already out which is a stellar game with an awesome online community, and next month we are getting Halo: CE Anniversary. That is in addition to all the great multi-plats. If anything, there are far too many quality games both released and about to be released. ... but hey, you fanboys can bicker about the PS3, because clearly this article is about the PS3! Take those fanboy goggles off and let's get back on topic.
@ApplEaglElephant Theres this little thing called "not being a deuce" you should try it.
Hey Cliffy!.......YOUR MOM!
You all have forgotten and MLG was made for games like starcraft and halo. this is what being a hardcore gamer is about. I don't ever recall killzone being a big hit at mlg -_-
@kaveti & gamingdroid - I'm not sure how you guys can look at this generation and not see that MS has shifted focus significantly to the casuals while Sony continues to bring something for everyone to the table just like they've always done. From the looks of things next gen will continue this trend, judging from the way Sony has been acquiring devs. PS4 all the way for me.
you sony fanboys are just annoying and repeat the same stuff day in day out. stfu ey? "m$ doesnt care" "sony does" "ms has ditched the hardcore" "sony hasnt" "m$ only want money" "sony do it for there fans" blah blah blah. ffs just shut, grow up and go and congregate on the "i love sony" forums. next gen like this gen, i will be a multi console owner like i have been for years. we know that 90% of n4g are sony lovers, and possibly a few of you lot are paid trolls. well you must be for some of the vomit inducing crap you write. surely no one is sad enough to actually want to defend some multi billion dollar corp that doesnt give two fucks about you no life fanboys who dwell on n4g. rant over, disagree away
@apple You are so one sided... While ms doesn't have as many "hardcore" exclusives, what they do bring to the table is quite frankly AAA gaming in my book. If you don't know what games I'm talking about then shame on you.
@ Gamer3000 If there was no such thing as AAA multi platform titles, then exclusives would be important.
@kaveti6616 As a hardcore gamer myself I do feel that Microsoft abandoned me in 2011 unlike Sony. As a gamer I expect to see each year the best AAA games for my console - not some half attempted and only decent games. Otherwise I can just go for better multiplatform games instead. So this year Microsoft didn't provide me any such exclusives with critical acclaim that scored 90+ or more. Let me verify that on metacritic... Oh wait. There are games after all, but only two: Gears of War 3 Forza 3 But 2 is still near to nothing! This is completely unlike Sony, who keeps on delivering the best games every time with no competition whatsoever. Check out the Tons of AAA 90+ games we got for our PS3 this year: LittleBigPlanet 2 MLB 11 ... Mmmm. Strange. I can't seem to find anything else. I was pretty sure All Sony games are pure gold and recognized as such by the critics. Will you believe me if I make an argument that a baseball game and a platform game that was actually supposed to launch on 2010 and got delayed are the games every hardcore gamer is looking for and that third person shooters and racing games no real gamer cares about? No? Mmmm. Too bad. Well... how about if I try to artificially inflate that list with PS2 era games that Sony repackaged for us after taking out backwards compatibility on the PS3? Because hardcore gamers like ourselves are not expected to already own these games. Yeah! Now we also have the Ico collection on the PS3 side with 90+ metacritic this year, thus proving superiority of the PS3 exclusives and serving as an ultimate proof the Microsoft doesn't care about hardcore gamers at all while Sony will always be there for us! Actually, we don't even need the games to know that. We can tell for sure because they made that cool trailer.
Mommies thought junior could play some thing called 'Mario', and they could lose weight playing Zumba. It's called the Wii. Most successful console of this gen, one of the best selling systems of all time? Ring a bell? The "Mom test" isn't exactly new. And I'm not talking about moms telling the difference between some graphics. Because they don't care about that. I'm talking about Mommy seeing value like that in the fads.
Stick to making your game Cliff.
Why cant he share his wisdom with all of us?
Because that person probably went from the headline straight to the comment section, skipping the article in its entirety.
He does when he releases a game... when he opens him mouth however... em :/ Although I do agree with him. “I always joke that it has to pass the “Mom Test” – When you can take your mom to Best Buy and show her a football game in low-def compared to high-def and she can actually tell the difference. That’s where you need to be at to make a new console.” We have to be able to see a decent leap from gen to gen.
@WrAiTh I read every word, I don't find it to be especially new, insightful, or wise. Like most times he opens his mouth. Hence the comment. Nice guess though.
But only if your comments weren't such a far cry from his, I'd most certainly agree with you, but I'm sure you understand why I can't...
CliffyB is an interesting guy. As someone who works in the industry, he's quite informed. I at the very least, respect all of his opinions even if I disagree with them. And I'll take the disagree hit to say we need more outgoing people like him in our industry.
@Guitarded77 FredEffinChopin I just think someone that is actually in the industry has more right to share his opinions than anybody on N4G who obviously shares there opinions
And I have the right to think his opinions waste my time 90% of the time he gives them. I don't see what is so difficult to understand about that.
And by the way, that blanket statement might not sound so reasonable to you if we were talking Kotick instead of Blezinski.
2014 is too long. I'm desperate for a new console. I've been gaming on my 360 since 2005 and frankly - I'm tired of it. All the games look and play the same. Nothing interests me anymore.
I don't think it's the console that makes all the games feel the same. Creativity is lagging far behind the hardware and with the cost of those hi-def graphics the financial folks don't want to risk their investment on something new and unproven. I have to agree that finding something that holds my interest these days is a true challenge.
No fanboy talk but I recommend you get a PS3 and check out some of the exclusive games.
