"Simply the best racing game available right now. From its stellar graphics and presentation to its outstanding online racing modes and social features, Forza 4 is an absolute winner." -Gamepro

Bigpappy2235d ago

For Gamepro to make that statement speaks volume. The cheif editor for the site is a long time fan of Tekken and GT5. He has also admitted to PS being his prefered console. I would never accuse him of being biased, just honest. But I doubt he would let this go public with out a second opion, if he felt differently.

Just a question for the Forza guys, I still really don't understand how it can get a perfect score when there are so many things that it doesn't do.

Now I don't have the game, obviously, but can anyone confirm if one can:

1) are there rally races in F4?
2) can you race at night, (low lighting situations, seems like a lot of car games have that now days)
3) can you race in different conditions, wet, snow? F1 does it and i've witness many races in those situations @ the guys below.
4)do you have to install the game (this one really shouldn't matter, but it's always a negative when it comes to ps3 games)

Now in no way shape of form am I saying that F4 is not a great game, but how can it possibly be "The Best Racing Sim on consoles" when there are so many things it doesn't "Simulate" that GT5 does?

I'm just trying to make sense of the review system this gen, or maybe it's just me who needs to get with the program. Reviews Knocked on GT5 because nearly 800 cars of the game doesn't look as good as the premium 200 ones,(doesn't affect the driving) but drives with the same exact physics as the premium ones. But GT still allows you to drive all those cars night, day, rain, snow, it does what it sets out to do, simulate.

when I go to work in the morning sometimes it sunny, and on the way back home, it sometimes rain, and I have to adjust my driving accordingly. You're telling that a racing game release in late 2011 can only simulate only half of such a basic natural phenomina, but is the best racing sim around?

Locgically speaking, maybe if the game is being judge on it's own merit then yeah, but judging F4 against a game that even a year older offers more simulation then it will do when it releases and calling it the winner is very unfair in all honesty.

but I'm sure I'm just talking to the wind here, lol.

Ducky2235d ago (Edited 2235d ago )

@Cupid
Read the last three paragraphs of the review.
The reasoning is explained there.

Also, I don't think the reviewer ever calls F4 the best racing "sim", so I'm not exactly sure what you are quoting.

Cupid_Viper_32235d ago (Edited 2235d ago )

quote from article

"Which, of course, begs the question: Now that we’ve reached the end of the road for this generation of racing games, which franchise emerges the victor? Well, having played Gran Turismo 5 a lot, I feel that it still delivers the most realistic-feeling and authentic driving simulation experience. Brilliant though Forza 4 is, Gran Turismo 5 just feels a little more convincing at the limit, if only by a few degrees. And while the lighting and graphics in Forza 4 are outstanding, Gran Turismo 5 manages to articulate an atmosphere in its dynamic lighting and weather effects that is simply gorgeous. It also has more cars, but while their quality hits higher highs than the best in-game models in Forza 4, many – indeed most – of them are vastly inferior."

Every single car in GT5 drives more realitiscally then in F4, even offers wet, rain, night modes then in F4, with more cars on tracks, but because some of the cars in F4 looks better then SOME cars in GT5, and you can paint the cars as well, that somehow F4 is the best driving simulator? I'm slightly confused to be honest. but like I speculated, I think it's just me.

@fatoldman, I think being compared to a sim and judge on such merits implies that.

Objective2235d ago

@ Cupid

Those features are not essential for the perfect driving experience. If I wanted rally racing I'd get Dirt btw. And GT5 does not simulate weather conditions, they are mostly cosmetic. Does GT allow customization of cars? Does GT simulate damage? Why are you grasping at straws?

fullmetal2972235d ago (Edited 2235d ago )

It has perfect score because Turn 10 has included features people care about and actually makes the game fun. Social features like Car Club and Rivals mode makes people want to play, not day and night cycles. Unlimited customization options from the inside out and auction houses are what genuine car nuts want, not fancy weather effects.

In truth the only people who puts emphasize on graphics in car games are the PS3 fanboys. Real Car fanatics want to fix up their dream cars and test them on the tracks.

Cupid_Viper_32235d ago (Edited 2235d ago )

@ Objective, I think you're correct, varient road conditions are NOT essentials for the perfect driving experience. And for your info, yes, GT5 offers customization of cars, and yes it simulates damage, and any time you have proof that GT5 has cosmetic simulation of wet, dry, snow, dirt, please send me the link, I don't mind correcting my beliefs with hard facts.

@ fullmetal, you're also right, all those reviewers who marked GT5 down for all cars not looking the same in the game were all ps3 fanboys, although the driving experience was never affected. And I guess You're also right on the point that Forza 4 is perfect, the game has no flaws. congrats buddy.

kwyjibo2234d ago

Cupid, 5/5 does not mean that a game is flawless.

What a stupid notion. Seriously, how stupid must you be to not know this.

JokesOnYou2234d ago (Edited 2234d ago )

No fanboy talk but it seems you're searching for they car keys without even looking at the key holder hanging by the door. In other words GT5 does things that Forza4 doesnt, Forza4 does things that GT5 doesnt, when you put the complete package of both side by side, most of the reviews including this one feel Forza4 is the better game= as a reviewer/critic if you believe a game within any genre is THE BEST, better than any other on the market then why not give it the highest rating? Its been said quite often that a perfect score is not symbolic of a perfect game, it is only an indication that a game has achieved the highest quality available within that genre. Your question seems to assume that to be better you must have every gameplay element a competitor has to be considered the best game, when the obvious answer is which studio made the better overall game?, its really not that complicated to see the answer....or you can just keep looking under the couch for the keys that are still hanging by the door.

Cupid_Viper_32234d ago (Edited 2234d ago )

@jokes Your take on things could be right. Or maybe it's even simpler than that, something along the lines that " the best DRIVING GAME has to offer the BEST DRIVING." which according to this perfect review, it is only second best.

It's similar to judging a car as best in it's class based on looks and features but not the actual driving.

And i also think that your analogie applies more to you then it does towards me, GT5 is part the norm, like F1, Moto Gp Etc, and its you who's been looking for the alternative.

JokesOnYou2234d ago (Edited 2234d ago )

No, Im not "looking" for anything, I simply came to read a review for Forza4, YOU came to question its legitamacy, with poorly conceived reasons, which is why I pointed out that you just sound as if you cannot accept the truth that the FACT is the reviewer thinks Forza4 IS THE BEST racer availabe on consoles (see above #1.1 qoute from Gamepro) and so your question is off base, much the same if I asked, "where is the chainsaw gun in ___,", "where is the perfect reload in ____,", "where is the meat sheild in ___", etc, etc, it would be silly to suggest every TPS should have those non-essential features just because Gears3 has them.

Seriously your logic is flawed, I could ask similiar questions of any highly related game, and they would be just as baseless, UNLESS those things were fundamental elements expected in every game of that genre. No if it wants to compete or excel past Gears it just needs to do whatever it does better than anybody else. Again you just seem determined to suggest Forza4 does not deserve this score, yet you lack any real logic for such a statement, of course you are welcome to that opinion but fortunately that isnt going to change the FACT that this reviewer from Gamepro gave it the perfect score he thought it desreved.

Cupid_Viper_32234d ago

@jokes, here's your statement: " No if it wants to compete or excel past Gears it just needs to do whatever it does better than anybody else. Again you just seem determined to suggest Forza4 does not deserve this score, yet you lack any real logic for such a statement,"

and here's my reason, but I'll just quote the reviewer himself: "which franchise emerges the victor? Well, having played Gran Turismo 5 a lot, I feel that it still delivers the most realistic-feeling and authentic driving simulation experience. Brilliant though Forza 4 is, Gran Turismo 5 just feels a little more convincing at the limit, if only by a few degrees. And while the lighting and graphics in Forza 4 are outstanding, Gran Turismo 5 manages to articulate an atmosphere in its dynamic lighting and weather effects that is simply gorgeous. It also has more cars, but while their quality hits higher highs than the best in-game models in Forza 4, many – indeed most – of them are vastly inferior."

and thanks to all who participated in a civil discussion on a what is undoubtly a great addition in the racing Genre, and to the guy calling me stupid, thanks for your input, but the minute you call me names I auto ignore you, you should ignore me as well, buddy.

JokesOnYou2234d ago (Edited 2234d ago )

Yeah, so let me finish his analysis for you, the fact remains Forza4 in his own words is, "Simply the best racing game available right now".....which again explains the score and is the answer to your question.

Last bub...so enJOY your day Sir.

@ shysun below, So whats your point? At the time of Halo's release many thought Halo was indeed the best FPS, in many ways it re-defined what was possible on consoles. Its still highly praised and often compared to games all these years later. Oh, oh hold on wait, wait, I forgot, again you assume your 1 opinion outweighs what the reality is for millions of others, well I guess they're right, you cant reason with an UNreasonable man. Good day Sir.

Another excellent score for Forza 4. Microsoft's exclusives are on a roll, first with GeoW 3 and now 4za 4.

(props to jizzyjones for the "4za" name).

LOGICWINS2235d ago

The 360s on a roll this year! Great work by Microsoft.

Spitfire_Riggz2235d ago

and thats the end of it for microsofts exclusives... though those are two very good exclusives by the way

NukaCola2235d ago

@Logic

360 is on a roll for Sept-Oct with the two games this whole year. Needs more...MMMOOOAARRR!!!

Tr10wn2235d ago (Edited 2235d ago )

@Spitfire_Riggz what about Halo and The Witcher 2? i mean The Witcher 2 is on PC but still it will be console exclusive for Microsoft either way Quality>Quantity i prefer 2/3 good games to 5 and only one of those is actually good.

Quality. Sure does beat quantity don't it?

trouble_bubble2235d ago

Yep. 10 quality games > 2. I understand that car enthusiasts are happy now, but let's keep it real please.

josephayal2235d ago (Edited 2235d ago )

Well for the record I think "Weather Effects" in Forza4 would have been sweet, but its not a make or break feature and if I had to choose I'd gladly take what IS in Forza4 over whats in GT5, either way though I'd say if you're a sim racing fan, its like prefering a apple jellybean over a cherry jellybean....most non-jellybean fanboys wonder what the hell all the fuss is about 'cause both jellybeans are pretty damm good.

aviator1892235d ago

I'll definitely be picking forza 4 up in the coming weeks, but I'm really hoping turn 10 includes weather effects in forza 5, assuming it will be developed.
