Dan Crawley of The Average Gamer took on the Battlefield 3 beta last week. In summary: lighting is beautiful, ATMs are rugged and squad invites need a bit more work.
For the average gamer.. Not saying this site, but the real average gamer... if I was one of them, and after playing this half assed beta, I'd be pretty turned off. From not being able to invite friends into your squaud, to going under the map with the buggiest beta I've ever played. I feel sorry for the average gamer that didn't get to try out some tanks or jets or anything like that, that's supposed to make BF a fun different type of shooter.
