Kotaku - Assassin’s Creed Needs to Be More Difficult

Kirk Hamilton writes: I've been revisiting Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood in anticipation of the soon-to-be-released fourth game in the series, Assassin's Creed: Revelations. I started a new game, and within an hour or so protagonist Ezio Auditore was effortlessly laying waste to dozens upon dozens of enemies—guys on horseback, heavily armored pikemen, and scores of sword-wielding Roman guards.

The story is too old to be commented.

I always viewed Brotherhood as a bit of a stepping stone.. That said, I loved the Desmond story continuation throughout! The development with Desmond is something I want to see get more gameplay and more challenge in Revelations.

I hate Desmond. I hate anytime the historical part of the game is interrupted by Modern, or Sci-Fi crap.

Noticeably_FAT2424d ago

No it doesn't, I like how accessible it is currently.

M-Easy2424d ago

Exactly, kotaku needs to STFU.

I guess some people want all games to be harder. Assassin's Creed games aren't really about tough fights though. They're more about exploring and doing everything in the game.

MostJadedGamer2423d ago

That is true, but when there is ZERO challenege, and its totally impossible to die in combat it makes very boring, and pointless.

We could at least ask them for a "hardcore mode", like having only one or two square. It would still be accessible for those who won't accept the challenge.

I understand how games have to be accessible these days but this is too much, I never lost a fight in Assassin's Creed unless I wanted to, and I'm not bragging about it.

MostJadedGamer2423d ago

Yea that is the problem it is actually almost impossible to die during combat the game is so rediculously easy.

MostJadedGamer2423d ago

Um Noticeably Fat the total lack of difficulty is what RUINED both AC2, and Brotherhood the combat was such a cake walk that you might as well have been just watching a movie combat was just totally pointless.

If they are going to make it that rediculous easy that might as well just make it a interactive movie

Heck in Brotherhood you didn't even need to play at all sometimes you could just stand there, and watch your master assassins defeat all the enemies.

The complete, and total lack of challenge is what ruined both AC2, and Brotherhood.

Noticeably_FAT2423d ago

I play the AC games on normal difficulty and I have a difficult time on some parts. Especially when I tried to eliminate the Borgia tower guards on those missions. There were plenty of times when I had to run around or go through a ton of health potions.

As I said, I think the game is fine the way it is, it's accessible and fun. If it were some super difficult game I'd not be interested in it, it gives me a challenge that I can do.

There are no difficulty levels, that is the problem discussed here.

That's why I find them boring. They don't encourage you to play as an assassin. You don't have to be stealthy to play the game and you aren't rewarded if you are. The combat is piss easy, as soon as you get counter kill unlocked. Just stand still, wait for an attack then counterkill. Some enemies can't go down like that, but they are usually the slow kind that you can easily doge and take out. I find it disturbing that I can easily take down the 15 people trying to kill me.

Iroquois_Pliskin2424d ago

yes the game does reward you for being an assassin... you can't get 100% sync if you play like an idiot

ItsMeAgain2424d ago

Two different things, he talks about being stealth and you about being assassin.

bunfighterii2424d ago

I think it needs a more developed stealth mechanic, but I do like these games.

princejb1342424d ago

as much as i love assasins creed it is way to easy
i feel like superman very unstoppable against the enemies and is all thanks to the counter button

badjournalism2424d ago

Except that in order to use the counter button as an unstoppable force all the time, you can't go on the offensive and lose all the fun of the combat. That's like people who said Arkham Asylum was too easy 'cause they used detective vision almost full time.

princejb1342424d ago

the counter is the offensive since they die in one hit with it
and i never liked detective mode it was weird during combat
