Battlefield 3: Putting the Wrong Foot Forward

Game Podunk blogger, Number 905 writes, "Fall is here and with it comes the inevitable onslaught of games. There isn’t a developer out there that isn’t interested in your money, crisp or crinkly, shiny or dull, paper or plastic. While most companies will just hit us with an abundance of ads all over our favorite gaming sites, others will try and entice people with a taste of their product."

It's a public beta. A public beta, with problems that should have been identified and addressed in the alpha and closed beta. Releasing an old build without the improvements made in the early testing of the game to stress test servers is asinine. What idiot thought that was a good idea? The intention should always be to put the best representation of your product out to the public. Beta or not, this was botched badly.

Who assumes that everyone's even gonna know what a beta is for? A lot of people lost confidence in this game from the beta, whether the fanboys like it or not.

You can preach the whole "its only a beta" thing all you want, but is that gonna take the sour taste out of people's mouth? Is your preaching gonna change their mind?

BUT, if a decently polished beta was released, you wouldn't see & hear 90% of the complaints that you do.

(Let's play devils advocate)

So the big question(s) is/are: Who is to blame; Is anyone to blame? Is noone to blame? You guys don't seem to think so. Is it the general gaming publics fault for not knowing the meaning of "beta"? Is it DICE's fault for failing to inform most of us (in a BIG/OBVIOUS way, and not on their blog btw..which most people don't go on) the meaning of a beta? Is it DICE's fault for delivering a sloppy beta? Or is it a little bit of all-of-the-above?

DICE needs to take note on the Gears of War 3 beta.

Its not all doom and gloom but I'm betting Dice and EA were not expecting such a negative reaction from console owners.

RioKing2541d ago (Edited 2541d ago )

Yeah I doubt they were. lol

But what do you expect? You can't just assume everyone's gonna know what a beta is for.

Plus; if you're gonna say the console graphics are "top notch" and that it's pushing the consoles' limits, while not showing us any real MP console footage, and hyping the shit of out this do you expect us to react to our first real impression of the game in the form of the beta?

Like it or not....ALL we have to go by, in terms of confidence in BF3, is DICE's word. Which btw, is fine & dandy for Battlefield veterans...but not for newbies to the game, such as myself.

I bought into the hype for black ops, and was sadly disappointed in the fact that I blindly pre-ordered a game based on someones "word"...and I'm not making that mistake again.

All I know is that I'm using a top of the line PC on a bloody ADMIN University Network and I still received a stupid amount of lag through out my BF3 experiences.... I SERIOUSLY hope this is fixed (I know it will, but I'd like some reassurance).

RioKing2541d ago (Edited 2541d ago )

"all us"? in, all us pc gamers? Maybe the pc gamers will, but you can't guarantee that for "all us" console gamers.
