The N64 Turned 15 This Week, What Are Some of Your Fondest Memories

TGE:
The N64 15 turned this week, and as a system that most gamers above the age of 20 had as a kid, there are many fond memories. Whether it was the incredibly dumb founding tiger claw controller, or the incredible games, such as Super Mario 64 and Goldeneye, chances are if you owned one of these systems you experienced at least one or two seminal gaming moments. With that, we ask you, what are some of your fondest memories with the N64? (Culture, Goldeneye 007, GoldenEye Reloaded, Mario Kart 64, Perfect Dark HD, Perfect Dark XBLA, Retro, Super Mario 64, Turok )

Please tell me you played OoT! D:

I've often wondered if Rare or Nintendo own the IP for Blast Corps... I assume it's Ninty, but either way I can't believe there was never a sequel. One of my all-time favourite games.

I agree with gogospeedracer, the first time I started playing Mario 64, my gaming world changed.

Zelda OoT is a stand out moment (until the water temple!! :) )

Having friends round for Mario Kart and Goldeneye sessions was great (although I sucked with the N64 controller playing Goldeneye)

There was a lot of good stuff on the N64, it was a great console.

Gaming just isn't the same today as it once was.. Good memories.

its because you got older. as a minor with no responsibilities gaming was fun. pure and simple. now as an adult, got things that need taking care of before a new game or system is released.
kikizoo  +   1153d ago
Exactly dloc, today gaming is better in every way, quantity, quality, variety (i loved my 64, but it was a painfull experience with months without a single good game to play, only a few quality ones, even less than dreamcast, at the end of their lifes)

I had a n64 but didn't have it for very long as I was in the military. I only played 1080 snowboarding and goldeneye...both were great fun.

Mario Party 1... wow. most fun i ever had with four people in a game. Except maybe with goldeneye. Or perfect dark. In fact the n64 was the last time I remember having so much fun with four player split screen. Conkers bad fur day's beach run was always a laugh! Only time since n64 I've had that experience was 4 player split screen in Halo:CE. Have yet to experience it on x360 or ps3, but i suppose thats down to my age and the dawn of online gaming on consoles.

Mario 64 was still is The best true 3D Based mario that didnt feel too much like you drawn away from the classic's

Goldeneye- first game i could choose to be stealthy First game to take out CCTV spot lights and the replayability everything about this game was awsome.

Turrok 1- felt like doom felt prehistoric. they captured the essence of both very well. times made me jump the Fog mist the sounds in bakground. Taken out your first kill with the torkbow was amazing.

ZELDA 64 Best open world rpg amazing that game had soo much to do it never got boring. from playing tunes to solving puzzles to riding your horse, to catching fish. you was absorbed in that game hours playing it.

Ahhh... good times! It seems like only yesterday that I was drilling brains out with the cerebral bore in Turok 2, playing Mario 64 for hours or decorating my own car in Top Gear Rally. It may just be nostalgia but those N64\PS1 days hold alot of magic for me. It seemed like every week something new and original was being released.

The same can't be said for this gen...you have to search harder for a "gem" in a sea consisting mostly of FPS shooter clones.
Lord_Sloth  +   1153d ago
Jet Force Gemini
Perfect Dark
OoT/Majora's mask
Super Smash Bros
Nightmare Creatures
The Memory Upgrade
Being able to use the entire controller, Z and stick included, with my hands simply on the left and right side of the controller. XXXD

Mario 64 & Smash Bros
Wave Race
GoldenEye
...were my fondest memories in that order

It's strange, N64 was my last Nintendo console, Playstation took over for me when FF7 and Tekken released - it just seemed more mature and cool to my adolescent mind.

Nintendo was so stupid to release another cartridge based system, they lost so much 3rd party support and haven't really gained it back since.
