MMGN: Battlefield 3 Xbox 360 Beta - Does It Live Up To The Hype?

MMGN writes: I wasn't going into the Battlefield 3 beta especially excited as I'd already played the game quite extensively at E3. I knew what to expect, what the game looked like and how it played, but I was definitely interested to see how the game performed on consoles, namely Xbox 360.

Much of the feedback so far has been mixed: many are being critical about the game's presentation on consoles, while others are citing lag and other connection issues.

Caspian Border on PC is definitly the true Battlefield experience.

Operation Corridor is not that much.

I agree about Metro, it's a very tight map and doesn't show the potential of Battlefield. Feels very targeted towards COD fans, sorry to say.

I've seen Caspian and it's exactly what BF should be, I hope they unlock it for the beta

I'm also really annoyed by the MoH feel. Everything looks too big and I miss the BC2 medal/insignias and the way the UI looked. Hate the neon look so much

You get badges and dogtags instead. And weapon stars are there too. I like how the game encourages progress.

Caspian is played in Conquest so it's open. Rush has always been a narrow approach, no matter what map.

Totaly agree with you. I played MoH beta and it feels exactly like that, the BETA anyways does. I doubt that if you're not playing on the PC version you're not gonna get the full Battlefield expierence.

@PixL Rush has never been as narrow as it was in Operation Metro, I suggest you go back and try Oasis or Atacama Desert on BC2.

Caspian is amazing, I hope we can play metro in conquest mode, if I remember right then all maps have a conquest mode..

It would have lived up (on all platforms) if the beta was on a different map. Caspian Border proves this.

Problem with these bugs being ironed out is there isn't really enough time. This isn't a beta in the way a normal beta is used for. Partly it is testing the servers but mostly it is advertising the game. Do not count all the bugs to be ironed out.

I don't think anyone is expecting all of the bugs to be worked out before the game releases but you have to remember that this is still a beta and they will get a lot of feedback that will help them pinpoint a lot of the bugs before release.

No one knows how old the version in the beta is though. Take into account that before it was released it probably had to go through a lot of checks and clearances etc by both MS, Sony and EA, so no one knows exactly how long DICE have had to iron out the bugs.

DICE have a proven track record and I'm pretty sure the final version will be a different beast than the beta.

I can't believe they still haven't allowed button mapping in the series on consoles, you can't even use bad company controls (pressing triangle instead of R2 to melee). I would give this game a pass if it had MOH controls, but this game is unacceptable in its current state. I cannot believe this game is being released in a month?!

Have you seen the Caspian Border map? Not saying it will look as good on console as pc but it will still look way better than operation metro.

so youre not going to get it because some textures which you arent going to pay attention to as youre running past them dont look as nice as a pc game? looks mean next to nothing!! the gameplay is excellent on all formats, and that it why you should buy this game! all this pc is better than consoles argument is absolute nonsense because when it comes down to it, people end up getting used to the looks, and more focused on the gameplay.

the textures and small details are what attracted a lot of people who didn't like Battlefield before. myself, included.

the PC trailers looked absolutely incredible. the console versions do not. they look *good* but, not what they've been selling us over the past year.

in which case, i've lost interest. the graphics and details were what *really* made the difference between this and Call of Duty. sure, the gameplay is a little different, and there are vehicles and all that, but, it's still modern military FPS 1 vs modern military FPS 2. and if your biggest selling point (the graphics) doesn't live up to what you thought it was going to be, you're bound to lose interest.

Like, half the lighting and shadows are missing on buildings. I think the main reason the console version looks so bland outdoors is the almost complete lack of HDR though. Seriously, the HDR on the PC version looks amazing.

BUT, the gameplay is there. The PS3 version was perfectly enjoyable, even though I noticed either the damage or recoil was different from the PC. I'd still 100% get it on PC, but don't kill yourselves over it guys.

You can't judge a game by it's Beta. Wait for the full release then ask if it lived up to the hype!

I wanted BF3 to be one the best games of the year, I wanted it to kick COD out of the park, but after playing the beta yesterday I predict BF3 will not even be in the top 10 of 2011.

The only things that bugged me are the stupid flash lights and red lights(I'm guessing they are scopes or something?) and the blueish look and blur. Besides that it was ok. Hate to say it though but I prefered Bad Company 2 in terms of UI

Stop nagging like a little bitch, I found nothing wrong with the graphics not mentioning the screen tearing. No one EVER said the footage Dice showed us were console graphics now DID THEY????

On console no, on PC its pure awsome, I managed to get play Caspian boarde for 2 minutes and was 100% sold on buying the PC copy.

Tip: If you plan yo buy the console versions, don't every try out the PC version becuase you will never be satisfied.

The console version was very dissapointing, obviously never going to be anywhere near to the PC version, but the console version was bearly a step up from BF:BC, infact worse in some points. The HUD is horrible and takes up way too much space. Jaggies everywhere, flickering textures, broken animations, lag, ground glitches, choppy frame rate.

BF3 for PC
MW3 for console

That's how I'm rolling this Autumn.

I agree. This is why MW3 will still be on top after this. There are a whole lot more console gamers out there than PC. I believe MW3 console will be graphically superior than BF3 console. But Im still getting both.

Loving the PC version. But in my opinion, if you only have a console, get MW3. It will be a much more solid experience all round. And it will look amazing in 60fps .

The game is very quiet, not as action packed, visually glitchy and poor, the kill cams are terrible, and the objective is minimal. Not impressed
