Guild Wars 2 vs Star Wars: The Old Republic - Eurogamer Hands-On (Pixels or Death)

Pixels or Death's Chris Leddy previews both Guild Wars 2 and Star Wars: The Old Republic at Eurogamer to try and figure out which game as the "edge" in the battle of the upcoming MMOs:

"One of the foremost innovation is dodging. Real, honest-to-goodness dodging. Especially in the MMO genre, this is a fantastic control feature. You can literally dart out of the way of attacks, something that any hack and slash fan will appreciate. Fans of World of Warcraft might find their heads exploding....

The game’s major selling points are story, lore and character development. I can assure you straight off the bat, there’s plenty of them, even within the first 10 minutes. I was amazed by the amount of narrative depth." (ArenaNet, BioWare, Dev, Eurogamer Expo, Guild Wars 2, PC, Star Wars:The Old Republic)

Watched some vids from the Eurogamer Expo recently, loving how good Guild Wars 2 looks. Also, not sure how "this dynamic-ism was missing from the EuroGamer demo" happened. From the ones I saw, there were always several events going on around you (check the TotalBiscuit/Halibut's vids for the high level necro gameplay).

Also, the same guy I linked has 2 vids on him playing pvp as a Norm Thief and Elementalist from Eurogamer - "It is worth nothing *noting* that the Eurogamer demo didn’t even feature any multiplayer capability, which is at least 50% of most MMORPGS (you know, the MASSIVELY MULTIPLAYER ONLINE part)." Also, the pve parts of the game had dynamic events going on, and since you're on a server with other players, you can complete those events with other players (difficulty scales in events based on the number of people. the boss fight in the first vid I linked scales up to 100 people.)

As for the article overall, both games look impressive. And hopefully they end up delivering and doing well, compared to other MMOs that have come out lately.
