'Quake more significant than Doom' - id's Willits

id Software’s Tim Willits reckons that, contrary to popular belief, Quake was a more significant game than Doom. (Doom, PC, Quake, Retro, Xbox 360)

Most of all the quake serie still remains one of the best multiplayer fps experience ever (well at least quake 2-3)

I agree, I'm old school and much prefer the fast paced gameplay of these FPS games, Painkiller was another great game, Fatal1ty won $100,000 on a Painkiller tournament.

yeah wich is why i'm bored by most current fps . There isnt right now any worthy successor to Quake .

Fast paced yet requiring skills in both aiming and movement .

Now it's all boringly perk based , or a cesspool of constant realistic/military thingies

I agree with both of you guys. Stuff like Quake, UT, Painkiller, Serious Sam, etc. classic FPS like that is where it's at.

I hope Quake V is done right.

They've certainly been more influential. Quake truly popularized online competitive play. DM, TDM, CTF, Team Fortress and more. Quake 2 further popularized it and with Quake 3 it was the de facto standard for professional competition.

Couple that with it being the first fully 3D FPS ever and it's safe to say that Quake had a much larger impact on the industry than Doom did, even if lately it seems as though Doom gets more credit.

I've sunk countless hours into the Doom and Quake series and I hope to continue doing so for years to come. Please make more Quake!

I've always preferred Quake over Doom.

The next Quake will be a huge deal. Quake 4 was made by Raven and even though they did a decent job its just not the same as if id had developed it. Another thing to remember is Quake 3 did not have a proper campaign (unless you count the bot matches) so here's to hoping id will develop the next Quake and have a beefy campaign too!

Good old Quake, I remembered alot of my Saturday mornings in my high school years starting of the line "Humiliation!" but even more when friends came over and had "Versus Bots" fights. Battles against Bones were hilarious especially when he does his tell-tale laugh and back-flip shotgun maneuver.

Am I the only one here who thinks Doom is a bit better than Quake?

Don't get me wrong...Quake is great. Its a classic...but DOOM? Doom started a craze for FPS games. Its the first hardcore game I fell in love with. It was THE game of the early 90's to play.
