Forza 4 to add 'Car Tokens' for gamers to buy in-game cars with cash

XMNR: The Forza Motorsport series has always included the ability to earn credits to purchase better cars by advancing through the game and completing races. Turn 10 Studios has revealed that Forza 4 will add a system similar to free-to-play games like League of Legends where players can use real money to buy 'Car Tokens' that can be used to get in-game cars sooner.

"First, it should be noted that buying the Car Tokens is optional."

I don't see the issue with this option. You can play through the numerous game modes, tracks, events and such to earn tokens to buy the vehicle you want. Or if you don't want to put in that much time and would rather just be driving your favorite vehicle then you can purchase right off.

As it is Forza has a class system and those that purchase their vehicles from the beginning aren't getting an advantage. Owning a car and being able to handle the horse power and speed of it are two different things. The players that practice and build up to earning their vehicles are going to likely be better when they race the better classes then those that just start out with the high end vehicle.

It would be like people buying being able to buy Legend Rank in Halo. They are going to get creamed when they actually compete against those that earned the rank.

Legion I get what youre saying but I hate this idea, this gen Im just sick of all the money grabbing DLC BS. Im buying the game day 1, as Forza is my favorite racer, but I hope this "Car Token" crap fails miserably.

"...similar to free-to-play games.."

But this game is £40?

As long as it's not taking anything away from the players it shouldn't be to bad.
One thing I do see though some people may get lazy and just buy all their cars with real money thus taking all of the fun out of the game. Just my opinion of course.

"One thing I do see though some people may get lazy and just buy all their cars with real money thus taking all of the fun out of the game" not sure how that would take the fun out of YOUR game though?

The amount of vehicles that anyone else has in Forza has nothing to do with the fun that I have in the game. Is it because I should be jealous or something that they are driving a vehicle that I haven't been able to earn yet? Not seeing how it effects me or you?

Some people just might want to buy the real nice car so they can create some nice graphics for it from the start. Many people buy this game for shear fact that they can create some very artistic paint jobs and might not want to spend the time on painting a Honda Civic.

for me personally, I love whenever i play Gran Turismo 5 or Forza 3 I like working towards to cars, that makes it funner for me.

It won't take away our fun, but for the players who do that it will.

"It won't take away our fun, but for the players who do that it will."

Obviously the people that want to work towards the cars will still be able to do it. They simply don't pay for the DLC to unlock all the vehicles. If they want to buy the DLC then they aren't missing out on anything because they chose to buy it. They aren't forced to buy anything and just have an option is all.

Some people don't play games that often and maybe only get on a game to pass some time. Those people might really prefer to use the Muscle cars right off the beginning. If they wish they can simply pay $7 and download the Muscle car pack. If not then they don't.

You can't take away the fun from someone that chooses to procure their vehicles on their own via DLC. It's their choice how they wish to play the game. It's like saying that you are taking away the fun of someone by allowing them to play a game in easy versus normal, or hard mode. It's their choice how they wish to play the game.

as long as its not exclusive to where you need real money then people should be ok with it, if they want a car early, they can buy it, if they don't, then they can kick some ass on the tarmack and get it through the career mode

Exactly... +bubbles well said.

I saw a Forza article and you didn't submit it? Were you sleeping or piecing together that outrageous costume of yours? Oh well, I will over look this one slip up. j/k

on topic:
I don't buy DLC so these offerings do nothing for me. I just hope DLC cars are not the best for track times like they were / are in Forza 3. Either way no biggie. I do most of my driving offline anyway.

There are so many great games coming out I want to dabble in in 2011 but this is the game that will consume most of my gaming hours this year.

Wow. Day 1 DLC. Nickel and Diming with car tokens. You can certainly see the MS influence here. Nice work Turn 10.

I wish some people would wake up and realize that if NOBODY bought these things they would STOP doing trying to nickel and dime gamers. Most of this content should be on the disc (or perhaps in this case discs) that we paid 60 dollars for.

Where does it end? We will soon be paying 80-90 dollars for a title with all of the DLC to obtain the 'complete' experience. That is ridiculous.

Here is a tip...wait. I know it is hard, but wait 6 months and you will get all of this content for less than 59 dollars. If this generation taught us anything it would be to adopt a wait approach for not only software discounts, but hardware bugs as well (this goes for both 360, and PS3).

jib2191d ago (Edited 2191d ago )

i respectfully disagree. i don't see the problem with the tokens/dlc in relation to what forza already has to offer. for 60$, it has WAY more content/replay value than 90%+ of the same priced games out there

why should it be in the game? would it make you feel better if they held off on a finished DLC for 3 months? 4 months?

i'm not defending DLC in general here. all i'm saying is as long as a game packs a lot for 60$, i have no problem with DLC
