CVG- Speaking in the latest issue of Edge, studio co-founder Tameem Antoniades admitted the Namco Bandai title should've performed better at retail, though he's glad the studio has "another chance" with its take on Capcom's Devil May Cry.
Well they still have a chance to redeem themselves. If DmC ends up being a very good addition to the Devil May Cry franchise while having a more satisfying gameplay experience than Heavenly Sword and Enslaved, Ninja Theory will surely start working on Enslaved 2. Until now, they've shown that they can make quality games with compelling stories, gorgeous environments and interesting characters (Nariko being the best of them all, unfortunately...). However, they've always implemented combat mechanics that are not fluid and often frustrating. The auto-jumping found in Enslaved didn't help and the screen tearing was annoying. If only they could iron out such shortcomings, these developers could really bring us outstanding games. It's just too bad that no matter how much you work on your game's universe and themes (Including the voice acting, background music, etc...), if the gameplay isn't satisfying, the entire game will be forgotten. But now, apparently, NT has even more problems with DmC and the whole "This isn't Devil May Cry" debate. For now, we'll just have to wait and see what happens.
Well said. Nice to finally see a mature comment on a Ninja Theory article, and a rational comment at that. Despite the controversy with DmC, they are brilliant developers proven by their creative IPs Heavenly Sword and Enslaved, and whilst they do have their shortcomings, such as HS's length and Enslaved's combat, I believe they put their effort into aspects which are usually glossed over by many devs, and that is narrative, and emotion. As to how well that translates to DmC, we will have to find out, and I plan to by purchasing the game despite the hate.
Disappointing. I liked the first one such much that I Platinum'd it.
Its a shame it was a great game I enjoyed playing
New IP's is a risky business.
Because game development is so costly. That's why I laugh when people say that want new consoles RIGHT NOW. That would just make game development even more costly and mean less new IPs. If they stick around for a couple more years, there will be less pressure, and a better chance that will will see some originality.
That's what I always say. Just cause a few rich companies want the PS4 and 720 doesn't mean smaller ones want it. They'll all close under the weight of developing for even more powerful things. Greedy people's eyes are bigger than their stomach. edit: And this is sad. I liked Enslaved. The ending was like a punch to the stomach and the acting was very very good. I bought it for $60 and never felt cheated.
I also enjoyed it even more than I did with Heavenly Sword. I actually hated Heavenly Sword. Edit: I just proved that DmC/Enslaved haters are still lurking around. Just look at the disagrees so far. Edit: Another hater just disagreed. Edit: At least I got one person to back me up. Edit: Enslaved!!!!!! Edit: Oh, yea! Edit: Man, no need to be so harsh just cause I hated Heavenly Sword. Edit: Or maybe those 5 disagrees are from DmC haters. Edit: 6 Edit: Monkey!!!! Edit: 7
Don't take it personally if everyone doesn't agree with you. I did like Heavenly Sword much more than Enslaved, can't really say why but I had more fun in Heavenly Sword. I was disappointed that they didn't make Heavenly Sword 2 when I played Enslaved.
it's cool. Monkey still rules though.
Maybe you've got all those disagrees because you hated on Heavenly Sword (which was an awesome albeit short game), not because those people hated Enslaved/DmC Or maybe because you keep adding all those Edit's to your post? I know that's why I put in my disagree.
I was just trying to see how far I could edit until it stopped letting me. It was kinda fun. Edit: I guess I didn't like Heavenly sword just cause they try too hard to make it feel oriental both in appearance and voice acting. It's kinda of a weird mix to me. In Enslaved, characters didn't try to be asian, which is more natural IMO.
@jc48573 I gave you an agree even though I disagree Funny how that works
I agree with the other guy. I disagreed simply because all of those edits annoyed me... Enslaved is a steal for under $20. Pick it up people!
LOVED IT, shame a about the hate campaign
I smell waffles!
hmm waffles now im hungury
what why? the game was awesome!
Just like there was no Heavenly Sword sequel and no Kung Fu Chaos 2. Hopefully there will no sequel to DmC either.
I hope they don't work on another DMC game too, but that's so that they can get back to doing what they do best, creating unique and ambitious titles based from their own minds rather than taking an existing IP and changing it to suit their style. Im still getting DmC, I'll buy ANY game Ninja Theory makes.
