360 Magazine: Could Activision's new super-service end up damaging gaming in the long run?
Yes! I mean, no.
even though I'm getting elite it is gonna damage gaming all it takes is one companies success in a idea for other companies to mimic it elite will be successful and i expect other companies to follow this int he upcoming years
It'll damage my wallet that's for su... oh, wait, I'm not buying this overpriced piece of shit. Phew... that was close.
I'll buy it, as a tester, to see how it goes and then I'll decide. Can I buy it by the month?
annually only, sorry
Nnnnnnoooooooooo, sob :(
yeah i was thinking the same thing just so i could try the new maps since i've played a dlc map before.
I dont think so, few games have the brand power to attempt something like this and thats never going to change. Your not forced to buy/use Elite just to play online. That is the next level, but if someone wants the little extra from their favourite game or figures it'll be cheaper in the long run to buy Elite, the options there.
Yes hopefully this crap fails hard.
I'm hoping so too...
Providing for a fee things that were or could be free ? of course it will bring damages . In before " but if you dont like it ..." just like in 2006 , followed by extensive rants about why capcom and co sux years later
XD Gave me a good laugh. +Bubbles
Damage gaming? When they say damage gaming is that in the same realm as in the WOW pay for play MMO that has crushed all other MMO's in terms of sales for years and yet the industry seems to have continued and found other ways to compete in that market even though WOW still is king? Damage like that? Then the answer is no...the game industry will be fine with or without the success of COD Elite.
I look at Elite like a Season Pass. If your into getting all the DLC then it's going to be a great thing for you because your actually going to save some money. If your not into spending all that extra cash on DLC then you don't have to get it at all. It's optional. So of course it cant hurt gaming in the least. That's like saying optional 3-D or optional Kinect can hurt games. OPTIONAL.
Kinect and 3d are optional , with no chances , at least for a long while to become a standard and default modes DLCs were optional too , and yet likek foretold by enough people , took away features , games chapters , modes , characters , that would otherwise be included in the game , and sold them as pieces . And this practice is not even an option anymore , but the de facto standard . That's hat people are arguing against . Not some jealousy crap or taking people's freedom of choices away . It's about setting the rules right away , and not giving free passes yet again to publishers . Of course i dont believe anyway it wont pass , so i gave up , and will probably follow in games i like (so not cod ). Havent surprinsingly found the breaking point yet
This is just another way Activision can nickel and dime the consumer because they know people will pay for it. Personally I won't pay for it simple fact Activision shares the same bed with Microsoft when it comes to this game. Yeah a person can get the maps of this elite thing but they tend to forget about the PS3. I won't even get this elite for the 360 an annual fee plus a monthly fee is not worth it.
The problem with optional stuff is that if it sells well it will spread amongst developers like a slow infection and this usually results in less and less content being added (such as what happened to Homefront with online passes.) in future titles But even if Activision has its' heart in the right place (pffft ha ha ha!) and ends up being successful, other companies will not play by the same rules followed by slowly pushing the line farther and farther until gamers wise up to says something.....
Activision & CoD in general damage gaming. There comes a time when we gamers must go against shitty devs and publishers. They killed guitar hero, they killed Tony hawk and they started to kill cod after cod4. Sales will drop for each release unless they do something new and refreshing and not just modify cod 4 over & over again.
Could COD Elite Damage Gaming? Its not Elite that will do the damage it will be all those casual gamer's that buy into this service.
Uh, casual gamers don't buy DLC and they certainly won't pay for the premium features of Elite. I don't see how daily tournaments with real world prizes can "damage gaming". Anyway Elite is 90% free. The only people who are going to subscribe to it are the ones who want to save $10 on DLC.
You obviously have no clue what you're talking about. Casual gamers buy more DLC than anybody.
naruto, every time i see you it's ignorance form ur mouth lol. i'm with hicken i'm a hardcore fan of lots of games and YET i've NEVER paid for anything that didn't come wiht my disc. certainly there were times that i wanted to like dead space 2's extra SP game and ACB's davinci campaign BUT no way in hell will i EVER support a company after i bought their product. monthly services are bullshit and all DLC is bascilaly that--wanna extend ur game and play with friends but can't cuz after 6 months all the community is playing other maps/campaigns/services that you dont' get even though you still paid ur $60 dues to get an equal opportunity. WOW started this bullshit and Activision has only made it worse when treyarch's cod4 clone (except it was a POS compared to cod4) came out wiht new maps constantly that were permanently in rotation and so i got kicked from every lobby i joined. it was super-annoying and a scam and that's fucked up polarizing ur demographic. to be honest cod has been nothing but a disappointment since then anyway. that said nowadays they usually have separate playlists for ppl with special BS so as not to piss-off everyone but there are a lot of disgruntled gamers out there such as myself who remember what gaming was before this stupid, ignorant, fucking generation messed it all up and allowed the industry to get away with all its crimes.
Casual gamers have no place in elite, it would be nice if they had an area for casual gamers to use the stat tracking and just not enter to play for prizes but they don't. Is it ruining gaming no, the Sony/EA pass garbage are doing that well enough at this time. Elite is the next step in MLG but instead of it being ppl that can afford to be there, the MLG events, its everyone on the service playing, Also like all good wars you need some lackeys to make the Bonds. Edit: I also hope they just expand on COD MW3 for a few yrSSSS - like more then 12 months..
How can a free service "damage gaming"? Did the "Combat Record" app in Black Ops damage gaming?
Gamers just need to ask themselves whether Elite is value for money for them.....if it is then enjoy....if it isn't then you'll be fine without it
taht's all fine and dandy but not necessarily accurate. you're forgetting that 99% of the people that actually buy this service are in it for the DLC, and that's factual evidence, ask anyone; that's also why teh hardened edition is outselling the normal one. so once again this is polarizing the gaming community and soon enough after elite works wonders you'll see a trend and the casual market will once again fuck up gaming for the rest of us who actually cared about it. god i sure hope counterstrike keeps its identity and resolution that games are free thanks to the mods and dedication of the people that make them and not money-machines like infinity ward.
Cod has been out for a while now and it's getting smelly.
