Installed Base: Why It Matters

For consumers, it's obvious where publishers should be putting their development resources: They should be making games for the hardware you like. For publishers, it's not quite so simple if you're trying to please your shareholders by bringing in lots of nice juicy profits. Of course, you'll tend to makes games on platforms where you already have experienced teams. The market continually changes, though, and new platforms are introduced, old ones begin to fade, and the most profitable place to put your development resources changes all too rapidly.
