Gears of War 3 Review | The Controller Online

Travis at The Controller Online writes:" Lets start with the campaign. I promise no spoilers, but the campaign was foolish. We pick up where the story left of at the end of Gears 2. So after blowing up Jacinto in Gears 2, which was another failed attempt to destroy our enemy. We start Gears 3 on a boat called Sovereign and it’s all sorts of epic from there. Marcus continues to search for his father and after getting new information about his whereabouts the mission switches focus to try to find his father, as he appears to have a new solution to the Lambent and Locust problem. Your mission takes you all over the place, revisiting places from Gears 1 and 2. Dom also deals with letting go of his wife at which time we also see a crucial twist in the game. While trying to avoid spoilers, I will say that the gameplay was much smoother and something about it made me want to play more and more. The story was so good, I never knew what was going to happen next."

I agree with this review. Unbiased and I like that!
As some know, I am a Graphics Whore. The most impressive game of this generation. It really needs to be seen to be believed. Drakes Fortune (1-2) was the lead for a long time but as of right now, Gears is leading!

Looks friggin Awesome... Great reviews all around. Thinking that release delay to get things "smokin'" has worked in epics favour,

Definitely get this once I get through my gaming "pile of shame"

To many games that I need to finish first...

I have to admit, I've been playing the campaign and I'm feeling underwhelmed by the experience. I haven't played any multiplayer yet, but I'm not impressed by what I've played so far. I'm not saying it's not good, it's just not what I was expecting based on the glowing reviews I guess. Maybe it's me. Maybe I'm finding the slow, shuffling movements of the gears hard to adapt to coming from playing other faster paced games. Maybe over the next few days of play my mind will adjust. But at the moment, I'm not terribly impressed.

Yeah I feel the same way about it. It feels clunky. Me and my bud were playing the campaign together and it got kind of boring. I been playing a lot of multiplayer until he gets off of work. I'm starting to get used to it. Not as slow as it was when I first played it. Although I keep getting stuck on walls lol.

I am not underwhelmed by the campaign mode. Actually I am quite the opposite. I think it has excellent pacing so far, I am halfway through the game on hard difficulty. The only thing I am slightly disappointed in is the graphics. I really thought Epic was going to take them up a notch but the only thing they improved was the color saturation and not by much.

I am not going to take it online until I complete the campaign mode. I have a feeling it's going to end up, for me, as being the best Gears so far. I just hope Epic continues this series (although they "claim" it's the end) next generation but on a new and better engine.

To be honest man, I'm not sure what game your playing because Gears 3 trumps 1&2 in the graphics department. I finished a back to back play through of Gears 1&2 right before this came out and Gears 3 looks much better. The lighting, effects (smoke, explosions, etc.), textures, and character models are all a step up from the previous 2. IMO I think gears 3 hold the crown for best console graphic period. I know this isn't the site to say that on, but that’s my honest opinion. Right before my play through of Gears 1&2, I did a play through of UC1&2 to get ready for UC3 as well, and having played all of these games on the same TV I can honestly say, again IMO!!!, Gears 3 has the best graphic of them all. The only game I have that may out do it in that department is KZ3, I was also playing that the day before I got Gears 3 and it's really hard to say Gears has better graphics then that game. KZ3 does look freaking good. One thing I can say about KZ3 is the ocean looked a lot better than the ocean in Gears 3. I just don't know how people like ya'll can praise games like UC1&2, and KZ2&3 to no end, but be "disappointed" Gears 3 in the same areas. it all boils down to opinion, but to me It's a joke. Praise UC2 to no end like it's made by god and sent down to earth, but say Gears 3 is a disappointment. As on who's played both extensively, I just don't see where you could possibly come to those conclusions logically. To me it just sounds like fanboys trying to take shots at a game that they feel threaten by. Even if you do own it, you can still be a fanboy towards it.

What the mother, huh?
Who the hell is talking about the Uncharted or Killzone series? All I said was I don't see much of a difference except color saturation and you went on a wall of text tirade about how you just happened to play all the top notch looking games to compare them to Gears 3 and I might quite possibly be a fanboy because of it?

Insecure much?

Oh, okay.
Sure, gotcha.
Moving along now.

Oh btw, my XBL and PSN accounts are under my profile. If you check my account you will see I have not unlocked a trophy for PSN in.... hell I cant even tell you how long since I mainly game on my 360 as I have this whole gen.

You will also see that I just completed Gears 3 on hardcore difficulty like an hour ago. Yeah I'm such a fanboy. Uh no, I'm just being honest, brutally honest.

Where's yours gamertag and PSN info?
