Besides DCU and its lack of success what other console has done a successful MMO?

er easy . The ps2 multiple times , the dreamcast and the gamecube .

Some wanna pretend otherwise , but FFXI and the multiple versions of Phantasy Star online did happen . And most of them were successful .

The original monster hunter game on ps2 was also with an online fee in japan .

There was also the average Everquest online game on ps2 , with equally average success , and a few free japanese mmos

At last i believe that Free realms is doing more than fine on pc and ps3 .

Completely forgot about FFXI, Phantasy Star online and Everquest. Didn't even know about MH on PS2.

Regardless what you deem a success or not, what other console even has MMOs? To my knowledge, only the PS3. Microsoft has a great opportunity with the success of the 360, but by keeping XBL closed, is potentially missing out on their own WoW type gamer crack.

Name on successful MMO on console, any console?

Godmars2902495d ago

DCU is still trying to find its legs in a post WOW world. With the massive free incentive its user numbers are sure to pick up, but weather or not SOE is going to see a profit is up in the air.

Thing is someone has to try and by all indications at the moment its not MS.

Baka-akaB2495d ago (Edited 2495d ago )

FFXI and some of the phantasy star online games were successful on console . Forgetting about them doesnt make it less true .

Of course FFXI was even bigger on pc however

Christopher2495d ago

And there won't be any if you keep looking for one to exist before it's given the chance to succeed...

Not sure what the point of your question was, tick^3, as it has nothing to do with preventing MMOs from being possible on a console.

If it wasn't for Microsoft's closed-network ($$) and terrible standards & policies, 360 gamers might have been playing Portal 2 co-op with PC gamers.

The Secret World (MMO) was also scheduled for a 360 port, but not anymore.

Meanwhile, other companies are making the effort to positively standardize things within the industry (open standards FTW!) even if it doesn't always work out.

360 owners have been playing against PC gamers since 2007 with Shadowrun. PS3 is just playing catch up, as usual.

Christopher2495d ago

Correction, tick^3, 360 owners played against PC gamers in 2007. Shadowrun was the last game of its type on the 360 when Microsoft pretty much just decided to kill GFWL because console games made them a lot more money.
