Resident Evil 4 HD: Pricing Outrage: Is a 1/3 higher price justified?

"I have been looking forward to the HD remake, released as a downloadable game (DLC) on Xbox Live and PSN. It includes all the features of the past versions with spruced up polished graphics.

Except the pricing here in Australia is 1/3 higher than the price on the U.S. marketplace, which strikes me as odd for something that requires NO shipping, NO hard copy disc or packaging, and NO additional marketing.

On Xbox Live it costs $19.99 in the U.S. and $29.99 here, and Australians will understandably feel outraged."

Site has adjusted 1/3 to 50% after maths was shown wrong, so "IS 50% HIGHER PRICE JUSTIFIED" means the price is worse than 1/3.

Wow, 1/3 higher for a currency that is doing better than the US$ is a bit of a rip off!

Christopher2374d ago

It still requires taxation, digital or hard.

Said this so many times before, but look to your government for the issues with pricing of items.

gaminoz2374d ago

So on average how much more with tax would it be in the US? The Aussie price is all inclusive as we have a GST.

Christopher2374d ago

@gaminoz: Depends on the state. In MD, we don't get taxed on digital software. Some states I believe go as high as 9%, though. Other countries tend to have much higher taxes for various reasons (VAT, social programs, etc.).

BadCircuit2374d ago

Well that means at worst the US pays $22! That's quite different to $30 for a DLC.

Christopher2374d ago (Edited 2374d ago )

This isn't about who's worse. U.S. citizens pay less taxes than Europe and Australia, but U.S. citizens also pay for their own health care, have fewer social services, and continue to see them diminish with each year.

The reason prices are so high in countries in Europe and Australia are due to these much higher taxes.

Don't like them? Talk to your government. It's not Sony's, Microsoft's, or Capcom's fault.

it's 10 bucks with PS+, also you get RE1, 2 and 3 for free

BadCircuit2374d ago (Edited 2374d ago )

I wonder what the difference in $ the Playstation Plus is in US and Oz? What do you pay for how long?

Also last I checked RE 4 wasn't even on our store yet!

Iroquois_Pliskin2374d ago (Edited 2374d ago )

psn updates on Wednesday

but it's Wednesday...... EU getting it last I guess, I checked US and it is there

Agent-862374d ago (Edited 2374d ago )

It's really worse than that because the site's math is wrong. $30 is 50% higher than $20, not 1/3 as shown ($30 - $20 = $10, $10 / $20 = 50%). 1/3 of $20 is $6.67, so 1/3 higher would actually be $26.67. If you were to discount a game from $30 to $20, then that would be a 1/3 reduction. Increasing a price from $20 to $30 is 50% increase.

I did want to be a dick and Say it but you're right these people can't count

Agent-862374d ago (Edited 2374d ago )

Well, the site changed it's title after my post. Good to see that our comments are actually being read. :)

Christopher2374d ago

A downloadable game also isn't considered DLC. DLC = Downloadable Content, meaning add-ons to an existing game. RE4 is a digital game/downloadable game. It is not considered DLC.

Really hope DLC doesn't catch on for digital games since it would be yet another abuse of the English language.

BadCircuit2375d ago (Edited 2375d ago )

oops double post

BadCircuit2375d ago

For DLC that is just stupid, but we've been getting ripped off with our games for years! I'll get it from the US store if I can.

Proeliator2374d ago

Gentlemen, I keep my tongue in cheek most of the time, but this is high quality bullcrap.

It's a blatant middle finger to the Oz crowd.

gaminoz2374d ago (Edited 2374d ago )

Certainly exploitation. Sure it's only $10, but do they honestly think we won't notice it's 1/3 MORE? For no reason?

Capcom apparently used blurred old version images to compare how the HD version was sooo much better too...that's just manipulative.

EmperorDalek2374d ago

Most games are priced too high here. Did people expect it to be different for RE4?

gaminoz2374d ago

Well for DLC, you wouldn't think it'd be THAT different.
