Modern Warfare 3 developer Glen Schofield has compared the Call of Duty franchise to a long-running sitcom, saying that, as long as standards are kept up, “people are always going to want it.”
Standards have not been kept after CoD4 release at all. I'm tired of paying $60 every year for DLC on disc with renamed perks, because that's what it pretty much looks like. On top of that...this so called proprietary (Quake) engine is so old if they fuck something up you can't even patch it/remove it (example MW2). I'm sorry been big fan since first cod but this is just getting annoying and this fall me "going to want" some Battlefield 3 !
Because Its normal to compare things and theres alot of people on n4g that makes room for alot of comparison it shouldt be a problem that people compare all the time
What article? It is three freaking quotes and a title. “MW2 broke sales records, Black Ops broke those records, and we’re certainly hoping to sell a heck of a lot,” said Scholfield. “If you think about it, people watch sitcoms and other shows for ten years,” he pointed out to MCV. “So if we continue to deliver a great story, we innovate, we add new stuff to the game all the time, quality is never sacrificed, people are always going to want it.”
Article: "Modern Warfare 3 developer Glen Schofield... saying that, as long as standards are kept up, “people are always going to want it" Fooxy comment: "Standards have not been kept after CoD4 release at all. I'm tired of paying $60 every year...." It would seem his comment was directly related to the article's statement.
@farhad2k8 You mad bro? Ontopic: seriously though it wouldn"t surprise me if Call of Duty never dies. or rather not die for a long time. The main group of people that play it are the mainstream crowd that never really got into video games. They just want something where they can sit down and play a few games and kill some people. In the end i hope I"m wrong because alot the multiplayer stuff this generation has ruined alot of single player games.
Just slap a COD name in it and it will sell. That's how normal consumer are behaving.
"I'm tired of paying $60 every year for DLC on disc with renamed perks, because that's what it pretty much looks like." I don't understand. If you are tired of doing it, then why do you do it? I mean, not buying something is the easiest thing in the world to do. You don't even have to get out of bed to not buy something.
Everywhere outside N4G
To activision: Well I really pizza and pasta more than call of duty TBH.... Stop dreaming okei?
i want a$$
Sad, Sad fact. Just like people are always going to like lady gaga for some reason....
Very bad comparison Imo, people like Lady GaGa because of her music, not because she dresses like an idiot and nipple slips on stage. It's just like any other singer in my opinion, for instance George Michael and Elton John might be gay, but people like their music and they sell an hell of a lot, Call of Duty isn't like Music, it's a game re-hashed.. over and over and over and over again and why people buy it, is beyond me.
lol, you think image has nothing to do with record sales in the music industry? People like Lady PooPoo because she's being shoved into their stupid faces by money power. Also, 'artists' rehash their sh!t over and over too, just like COD. Lots of COD players play COD because that is what big money is shoving in their face, and it just creates a social snowball effect.
Dude, lady gaga has no musical talent. She dosen't even write it. IT is just a copy of everything else on the radio. I am going to go ahead and tell you most of the artist that are well known an on the radio do the same thing. There is little to no musical talent in the pop radio stations that is why I tend to stay away from them. It really blows my mind how the youth and anyone else for that matter are so loving of these artist when they are nothing more than different chords with lyrics to brain wash the public. It is sad. And I compare that completely to COD because it takes the same kind of person and mentality to come back to a game like that every year giving it so much praise when it is just the same thing over and over again.
Did he just say people will always want COD even if it sucks?
I think this statement would be true if they were more efficient in their bug testing. Those and the fun factors are the requirements that need to be filled. I can see myself playing a Call of duty game five years down the line and still enjoying it. Then again, it will die at some point, like all things. I thought tony hawk would never die. In my mind, there was no way they could have fucked that up. Yet they managed to. As long a they're careful, call of duty still has a lot of life in it.
For now this is very true, although you know in the fantasy land of n4g they will say that this is not true lol. Although the proper way of saying would be, Call of duty fans will always want COD because this doesn't apply to everyone.
Its kind of like this for me. I hadn't liked a single fps for any period of time beyond the campaign since golden eye on 64. Cod4 came along and I had quite a bit of fun but I still wasn't all the way in. MW2 though I finally got good with a set of friends and it was nothing but fun almost every night. No other FPS has given me that and I have tried all the top fps games over the past few years. Cod was the only game ever to make me a fan of online competitive multiplayer in an fps. An yet I still consider myself not a fan of fps games. Which I am not in the slightest to be honest with the exception of cod. The factor for my why is simple, it is fun. There is really no other way to describe it and without cod there wouldn't be a single fps competitive multiplayer I'd be playing. As prior to cod and after cod I have yet to find another competative multiplayer fps I find fun.
I agree people don't realize Activision didn't brainwash anybody, they may do some controversial stuff in the gaming industry, however they do and always have deliver that fun factor in COD, which is why it sells the way it does, most people won't buy a product they don't like (least I wouldn't).
The title misses the last part of the line " Even if we recycle the game again and again with the ages old Quake 3 engine " I dont get it ... they make so much money ... wht is the problem with jst getting an improved engine .... doesnt hav to be frostbite 2 ... they jst can use CE3 or Unreal engine 3
People buy CoD because Activision has people brainwashed into thinking it is the greatest thing since sliced bread. When in reality, it is a poor single player experience and a massive multiplayer DLC "upgrade". I know several people who won't even TRY anything else simply because it has to be CoD this and CoD that, and even then, they complain about CoD's issues more than I do, which is quite sad. The one thing that holds CoD together is the pick up and go aspect, mainly with friends, and I do respect that to a degree. I'm sorry if I am one of the people that don't like to pay $60/yr for an expansion pack when nothing (aside from Zombies) has shown merit of purchase. I am glad Zombies is every other year, but it has gotten to the point where I don't even want to pay for that either.
*Troll comment about how much better BF3 is gunna be*
We all remember friends dont we....
"people are always going to want it" which means, we are going to keep breaking them out every single year, until NOONE buys it, which will be never
Hmm.. They could have sayed same about Guitar-Hero, or Tony hawk.. Two franchises they milked until they died.. ok, that was mean.. But true^^
That kind of mentality is the very reason CoD is doomed. Some day casual players and CoD fans will realize the harsh milking and lack of innovation and evolution of CoD and abandon it just like they abandoned Tony Hawk and Guitar Hero. Already now this kind of arrogance is pushing a lot of gamers away and if they keep this up, that group will continue to grow.
Activision: "Call of Duty is bigger than Jesus!" *then sales start to slip* "People just don't like the FPS genre anymore. It's not like we oversaturated the market, like we did with Guitar Hero...and Tony Hawk..."
They won't say that when sales slip. They'll say it when they run the series into the ground and make it spontaneously burst into flames.
i don't want it.. but people will say am not rad if i don't buy it T_T
Sure, Glen - just like how everyone still wants Tony Hawk and Guitar Hero, right? Let's be realistic, eventually people will tire of the same thing.
I am sure there is people who always truly want COD games, but as for me, I'm just not into them as much as i use to be.
"People are always going to want to play COD" - But for how long though?
