Deus Ex: Human Revolution - ENBSeries vs Vanilla version

Actually, you may be right. If you look closely (check the first screenshot especially), you can see where a fairly glaring issue lies. All of the added shadowing and AO have that grainy, latticed appearance to them, much like the rather ugly low resolution shadows you see in console games lately, (and in some scenes in the Witcher 2, for reference). That is a very distracting visual artefact and one I'd rather live without, to be honest.

Exactly. The appearance of the game, overall, gives off a rather 'clinical' look that aids the presentation, IMO. Those jaggy shadows and unnecessarily darkened scenes only look to make the game imitate every other damned game that's released, rather than preserve the games somewhat unique look.

I'm not going to talk down the work of this guy. I fully appreciate that this is also a work-in-progress. I mean, look at the success of the ENB mod on GTAIV. With a bit more work, this could also be something special.

The PC version needs a texture overhaul, not a shader one. Most of the textures look to be ported straight over from console, so there isn't a lot of detail when you get closer to them. Typical 512 x 512 console size when a decent PC can do a lot of 1024 x 1024 without too much trouble.

The optimisation is good (better now with the patch) but there is plenty of room to add visual improvements without badly hurting the framerate on modern machines, Quads/GTX460s etc

The biggest problem I have with it is the glaring lack of good SSAO. Almost nothing in the world seems to cast a shadow, giving it a very strange "static" look.

I can see why you might think this, and you are probably right, however- this actually retains the feel of earlier Deus ex games for me.

This is the kind of feeling the first game had on PC which may have been caused by technological limitation instead of intentional design.

It still helps this modern version eerily feel like a Deus ex game though to older gamers!

Haha, you're absolutely right, in fact, I touched upon that in a blog I posted. It certainly does feel like a Deus Ex game, it also helps that the objects in the environment have some pretty old-school physics applied to them or are entirely static.

Technological limitations, yes, but you may be right about it actually adding to the appeal of the game, especially for those of us who played the original.

i think it definitly looks better, the fire and textures look better than the vanilla build. cant wait for this, im holding out for this before i replay the game, also waiting for 3dvision support.

What is it that you DL when you go to the page they send you to its in no way clear as to what you need i dont see anything about graphics upgrade can anyone point me to the correct DL
