SquareGo: The Baconing Review

SquareGo writes:

"Reviewing games for a living essentially means playing ultra-violent video games all day whilst surrounded by a harem of women of ill repute. As such, reviewers often tend to be quite good at gaming. So, it comes as a bit of a shock to the ego when a reviewer fails miserably at a game – an Xbox Live one at that..." (DeathSpank: The Baconing, PS3, Xbox 360) 4/5

I bought the first 2 Deathspank games, and liked them a lot. The second one recycled way too much material from the first one for my tastes though (characters and, more crucially, missions), and both suffered from an over-abundance of fetch-quests and repetitiveness. But the humor and art style made up for their shortcomings, and the gameplay was adequate.

But then they changed the gameplay for The Baconing--they tried to improve it. And, for me at least, they failed. My tried-and-true technique of attack-block-attack-block that could dispatch any enemy and group of enemies has been ruined by their "shield mechanics improvements". Now it's attack-block-attack-automatic shieldbash-getslaughtered. So, as a fan of the first two games, I'm not happy with this latest iteration which messed with the functional gameplay and yet again recycled too much past content.
