Battlestar Galactica Online now boasts more than five million registered players, Bigpoint revealed today. The browser-based free-to-play MMO based on the television series achieved this mark in only six months since its February launch. Building on that momentum, the company also shared plans for new ships being added to the game in the coming months.

Not long ago, making games was simple. Publishers would look at popular genres or areas they saw growth potential in, and then they’d assign a developer to make a game based on what they decided. It was the developer’s job to make the game as good as they could within the timeframe and budget set by the publisher. The game would then sell for $50-60.
