Rise Of Nightmares:GamerXchange Review

Thecrapgamer from GamerXchange writes:
Occasionally I go into a game review and I have no idea what to expect, those are the times when I usually have a tough time doing a review. Honestly I wasn’t sure what to expect from Sega’s Kinect only offering, Rise Of Nightmares. When I first bought my Kinect I was very excited, I had dreams of first person shooters and virtual tea bagging. What I got was an influx of dance, fitness and party games. Now I’ve enjoyed those types of games immensely, but I wanted a story driven, cinematic experience with Kinect. There were lots of people who said games like Rise Of Nightmares couldn’t even be done on Kinect, I like many was skeptical about Kinect’s ability to run a game that wasn’t on rails. I felt a little better about the prospect of a true gaming experience when I used Avatar Kinect, seeing as how it can read your eyebrow movements, I again let my imagination run wild. The possibilities are truly limitless, we can get caught up sometimes in the fact that Kinect hasn’t really offered a full cinematic game, that we can often forget that Kinect is still in its infancy. Remember, Kinect hasn’t even been on the market for a full year yet, not until November 4th, 2011. (Kinect, Rise Of Nightmares, Sega of America, Xbox 360) 8/10

Well luckily Gamefly is sending me a copy of this game this week so I will reserve judgement for when I play. I will say I have heard a wide range of commentary both good and bad from critics who have previewed.

There doesn't have to be hate when it comes to Kinect. I've spent a good portion of the day with the game and it's a lot of fun, not perfect but a very good start.

Good to see that they can finally produce good games for the core with Kinect. Hopefully more devs will follow suit and produce core games that fully utilize the device.

I just picked up my copy. About to take it for a spin. I just want to play this game. I really doesn't need to be perfect. I just want it to make my smile as I experience something completely different form what I have been playing the past 20 years. I'll be back with my thoughts

I just put my first hour in on RoN

You know what it feels like to me.....the first time I played Bioshock. Its like you dont know what around the corner. One thing I already love about Kinect is the gameplay dynamics....like when you have to use your body to keep your balance or even run (really run). I have seen some people say the game is slow. To that I say its just because this is our first time playing something like this. If it was faster than it is now it would be really hard to learn. This game sets us up for the future.

I like the diversity in enemies and attacks, this is just an all around good game. Some people dog the graphics, I like them as its suppose to reflect the quality of a B movie.

It is a excellent firststep for Kinect.
