Gematsu: "We knew Battlefield 3 would be big, but we didn’t think it’d be two-discs big. A poster for the shooter, found in what we assume is a Japanese game shop, confirms the Xbox 360 version will ship on two DVDs."
If that's true holy crap the game is bigger than i though at least i know my money is going to be worth it.
Too bad this game couldn't fit on one 360 disc. It seems like more and more games are having that problem. Well this doesn't affect me, I'm getting it for PS3 anyways
Funny PS3 gamers seem to care so much about how many disks the game is on. Yet they dont seem to care which version will look better, which clearly will be the PC version. Why is it when the PC version gets discussed the same crowd will say oh better graphics, fps and more players wont effect gameplay. Yet they will nitpick over petty issues like how many disks the game is on lol. PS3 gamers on this site can be a bunch of hypocrites.
I guess we found our reason why they haven't been showing it on 360. They struggled enough trying to fit the game on one dual-layered DVD. You can bet it'll be the most compressed of the two console versions. They had 50 gigs to work with in the PS3 version. DICE still isn't confident about the 360 port, sadly.
so I wonder what the MS disc format update was all about.
so doesnt bother most people one bit
Not a big deal, I'd imagine. If it's SP/MP then boohoo, you get up to switch discs which takes like 5 seconds. I'm still going to try my best to get it on PC, I don't want BC3, I want BF3, and console versions are definitely going to be scaled back to feel more like BC2. @Sunhammer We don't know that yet. Remember when EA said MoH was lead on PS3? Remember which was considered superior: http://www.lensoftruth.com/... Fact is that EA/PS3 are best buds and they will focus the attention on the PS3 version when it's not the PC version they are showing off. We still do not have a proper demonstration of MP on consoles and it's definitely going to be scaled back for both consoles.
Funny how some people tend to forget that the PC version also uses the same DVDs as the 360. Yet no one is complaining about the PC version and it's multiple disc. Oh wait! Is it because on the PC, you could install the game??? Well guess what? You could also install the game on your 360. STOP THE PRESS!!! What?!? Best of all, it's not mandatory.
It doesn't affect you but yet you cared enough to comment OT: I really don't care if it's on 1 or 2 or 3 discs. As long as the game's good it doesn't matter.
@reynod - Why would they care which version looks better if they are getting it on PS3 no matter what? I'll probably get the PC version, but not because of the gfx, mainly because I played the previous two on PC.
I'd be mad too and defend the equivalent of the rotary dial phone if I was playing multiple disc games in damn near 2012.
@gaffyh Exactly thats my point, when they dont mind overlooking the fact that they are playing the game itself at lower settings and arent playing large battles. Does it really matter if another version is 2-3 discs? PS3 gamers make it look like its a huge issue and a reason to be picking the PS3 version.
@SPecialguest You are forgetting that somethings..no scratch that, everything that has to do with this game on the PC is better on the PC than the consoles. Your argument is null/void.
I pretty much agree with you on your hypocrite statement...and I primarily play most games on PS3. My feelings towards issues like this is just play the game on whatever platform you want to and enjoy it. I actually think BF3 will play well on all platforms despite any of the technical and physical differences.
The last time we got a campaign and Multi on seperate discs was ODST and it worked out perfectly.
It's the same non-issue for 360 gamers, especially when your going to be playing the campaign disc on a limited basis.
The multi-disc will be the one that is going to get the most run anyways.
The game is going to make huge waves on both consoles in October...but for me..Just like BC, BC2, and the Dice-assisted Medal of Honor..Battlefield 3 will definately get love on my 360.
I don't understand why you got disagrees. For the people who disagreed, are you implying that this person will get it for 360 and does not have a PS3?
of course it is and be glad because you know that dice didn't compromise on anything. but like you've all stated before it doesn't matter how many discs, so it's no big deal.
It's good that BF3 is on 2 disks because it means they didn't resort to gimping the other versions out of content. There isn't anything inherantly wrong with games being on multiple disks, but remember that they can't properly make them open world if they have to be. DVD restricts games like GTA and Elder Scrolls, not multiplayer titles.
Don't really see how it's a "problem". Switching a disc is one of the easiest things you can do o_O
its probably one disc for SP and the other for MP
@reynod why shouldn't they care? we do not live in the playstation 1 age no more in consoles. Ms shot themselvs in the foot they knew sony was gonna do blu-ray b4 the launch of the 360 they new they wanted to do HD DVD but they wanted to milk it make it a add on for just movies. Witch flopped if they coperated it in there systems with games playable you would see a double amount of space for devs to work on resulting in alot less DLC to pay for and resulting as time went on into uneeded splitting discs. This is ms fault if you disagree on that then you have no clue on the history of ms and what happened b4 the launch of the 360 and the HD-DVD VS BLU-RAY deal was about. they saw a way of making extra money it didnt work out.
At the end of the day, it isn't going to matter which version has the better graphics or the least discs. At the end of the day, everyone is going to get the version their friends are playing.
I don't get what's so bad about a mandatory install. Really what's wrong with that? Don't you install pc games on ur pc for the smoother performance. And if I recall correctly u only do a mandatory install ONCE (unless ur PS3 is replaced). Space issues? Upgrade ur hdd. I don't get the 360 fanboy/pc guys argument, that mandatory installs are a bad thing. Disc swapping isn't bad either. I used to do it back on PSone, so if 360 fanboys like swapping discs everytime they want to play a game then let them. It's really not so bad. Although a ONE time mandatory install isn't bad either. Common sense shows that. But then again fanboys don't have common sense.
@reynod PS3 owners dont care about disc space but it is a nice thing to boost about when another console can't do just one disc anymore. What's really funny is that you think you know PS3 owners lol
Because that just means BF3 has more content than we previously anticipated, and that's better than compressing it down to an 8GB (possibly 9GB) disc. It's the same thing with RaGE and I greatly appreciate devs not butchering their games for the sake of fitting on a disc or two (*cough* I'm looking at you FFXIII, 3 discs wasn't enough apparently! *cough*)
MS didn't add HD DVD because they were trying to keep costs down. As you know, HD DVD and Blu-ray were new tech at the time, hence very expensive. Sony did it because they MADE the blu-ray format and needed to promote it. If anyting, if Sony didn't create Blu-ray I bet they would have stuck with regular DVDs.
2 bf3 being two discs is really top news story with almost 300 comments... what a sad world we live in
are there a lot of people here with HDD-less 360s? not that swapping disks is such a big deal but for those who care: http://www.ebay.com/itm/OFF... those who payed a big extra for the 360 w/HDD won't have to swap; those that bought 4gb one are only thirty five dollars away from not having to swap if it matters so much
No contest for me. I hate gaming on my PC. I spend all day on my PC, the last thing I want to do is watch the machine I work on struggle to play BF3 on a 23" screen when I can be sitting back on my couch with my 7.1 home theater system, playing it on my 92" projection screen on my PS3 (and without being charged extra for playing online) like some consoles. I gave up playing the never ending "Upgrade the PC and hope things run half decent" game years ago. At least with my PS3 it's not a constant battle of upgrading, updating drivers, finding other drivers when the ones you have aren't supported, shutting everything down, still runs like hell because I'm not spending $400 every other year to keep up, now hacks have ruined the game, on and on it goes. I gamed for years on my PC and in my opinion, slightly better visuals just aren't worth the hassle to play on a smaller screen in my office. This one's coming home to my PS3 down in the mancave without a doubt.
OH! See what happens when I leave for a day? Stuff like this happens. Well, at any rate, the only thing I'm wondering is when do you have to switch the disc... Is the online on one disc or in between missions?
The difference between the PC and 360 is that you don't need to have a disc in the tray. You put the disc in once to install and never have to touch it again. With the 360 installs you have to have the corresponding disc in the tray in order to play the game. I don't know how this works for multiple disc games on 360 and whether or not you have to change the disc at any point if it is installed as I don't own any multi-disc games for my 360. But yeah the reason nobody mentions the PC version in that way is that after you initially install the game then the disc is an after thought. That and a ton of PC games sold these days dont even bother with discs in the first place given the popularity of services like Steam or Direct 2 Drive. I can't actually recall the last PC game I bought as a physical copy tbh. @darkride66 What never ending upgrading your PC game? I built a PC around 5 years ago, it still plays even todays games on pretty decent settings. People act like P's need to be constantly upgraded all the time in order to be able to play games on top settings and that simply is not true.
This is going to work one of two ways. 1. Campaign disc + Multiplayer disc 2. Install disc + play disc. The latter, which seems to be more common with 360 games, would make the mandatory install argument moot. I'm not sure why people hate mandatory install anyways. It often means the game runs better than not installed. If memory is an issue, just uninstall a game you aren't playing. I'm getting this for the PC, but if I was to get this on Xbox, I'd go ahead and remove the massive 1.9gb Burnout Paradise file and uninstall Reach (& Forza 3 in preparation for Forza 4). Mandatory install on PS3 is no longer an issue. 500gb for what, 60usd these days?
Regardless what people might say, I don't think that this is a big deal. The only thing that we can learn from this is again Sony was right to implement blu-ray and all those haters who said that it's not needed and hated on it can eat their words now. How does it taste fellas??
If multiplayer is on 1 disc and singleplayer is on the other then it makes no difference to me.
Why R u telling me about DVD size. I didn't say anything about that
It's not that the game is big, just that DVDs are small
its still big altho i kinda agree with you
I'm surprised that COD series didn't surpass 1 DVD from 2006
PS3 version, here I come. You get BF1943 as well.
Doesn't bother me a bit.
Me either. I'm getting the PS3 version.
2 discs means: BF3 will be LOADED with Full Motion Videos & Cut-scenes, thats all. We are going to fight a little & be led around by the nose through a scripted environment. This has absolutely nothing to do with game play. If it did; why the hell does BF3 , not have Story Campaign Co-op as found in Halo & Gears? BF3 is going to be filled with movies we dontplay just watch.
OOOOOR IT means the game is less touched by compression (Better sound and texture quality) and may also got less repetetive environments than some other games. Rage have unique world texturing the whole way through and its a pretty damn big game. just saying. Edit: And Rage is heavily compressed too. so Im suprised it even looks as good as it does.
@ otherZinc Glad to see you've played it already. Anything else you want to tell us?
So it begins....the parting of two franchises... Battlefield is home to the plantation mainly and COD (obviously) homeland to the xbox I pretty much confirmed it (to myself) with this article. Agree or Disagree if you Agree or Disagree
@specialguest The 360 needs disk swapping even if its installed PC you dont
@ special guest thanks for destroying ps3 hypocrites
Hypocrites like the guys telling in 2006 "bububu dvd is enough, huhuhu bluray will fail" and now "disc swapping is not a problem" , "bububu ps3 inferior version bububu with a Zoom 5000X " then, when ps3 killed xbox with uncharted and other exclusives : "graphism does'nt count, gameplay is more important" when ps3 lead worlwide "sells is not important" after years of "epic fail, only XX console/games sold huhu" etc etc etc hypocrits, without logic (and the best console.) makes you pathetic :) (the funniest are the one trying to compete with a pc now they know they are loosing on all fronts : but you know what, even here, they are dreaming, since most of the pc games don't have better graphics : resolution and AAA don't transform this gen in other, and they can't play the best exclusives, award winner too) "I don't get the 360 fanboy/pc guys argument, that mandatory installs are a bad thing" don't worry, it's normal that you don't get it : they are living in opposite world (or sometime just in 2006 propaganda), where good things are bad things, good games are bad games, etc "ot trying insult you but 360 has more games then PS3." see...2006, no logic (when everyone knows ps3 has way better and more games since 2008 (and don't compare poor games from 2006 with the last two years) : metacritics is an undiscutable proof, just check every year metacritic stats, it's easy : ps3 win, years after years.
The only lack of logic I see is with your comment, kikizoo. While trying to attack 360 gamers, you also brought PC gamers into the argument and dissed PC gaming. I can't believe some people are so obsessed with a console that they resort to downgrading the competition in order to make their purchase feel justified. Both consoles, as well as the PC, all have their advantages and disadvantages. You can claim that the PS3 has the best graphics even over the PC, but that doesn't mean you're correct. You can claim that the PS3 is the best console, but it's still all about preference. You can claim all you want that swapping discs is bad and that mandatory install is good, but in reality both don't matter. As long as the machine plays the game, it's error free, and you enjoy your experience, there is no problem. I still can't believe you would claim that mandatory install is an amazing thing compared to disc swapping. I was under the impression that mandatory installs bring the PS3 version up to specs with the Xbox and PC version. I may be wrong, so if I am, correct me with some facts. I do know that 360 optional installs decrease loading times. Oh and if you want anyone to take you seriously, you should probably avoid throwing in a word in your first paragraph that has nothing to do with what you're talking about. Graphism? The spell check even underlines it. -_-; "The word graphism is not defined in any dictionary, but it refers to the "expression of thought in material symbols"." From Wikipedia.
AHAHAHHAA LMAO First of all, 360 FAIL!! And secondly, BF3 FAIL!! EVERYONES jumped on the hype train! We N4G users used to hate shit like this, but since it's to do with BF3.. we all love it!! Same as recoil with guns, remember when BF3 was liked because it was apparently SOOOO realistic? Well why is the recoil like CoD? But NOO, it's BF3 so it doesn't matter?! Bunch of fucking HYPOCRITES!!
Just stop. You've hurt no one but yourself.
you probably missed it but they are adding more recoil in the final version btw, calm down
All I see here is damage control from 360 drones, lmao.
@PS3 blind fanboys Guess what lead platform for BF3 ALSO uses DVD and will be on multiple discs? That's right, PC. You know, the one that looks about 10x better than the PS3 version that uses "high definition blu-ray". Stop making it seem like 360 is the only platform that still uses DVD. Such blind loyalty...
Fact of the matter is, the PC one will be installed and will only need one disk to run, while the 360 one will constantly have to change. I'm glad they did the double disk on 360, it means they used the full amount of the blu ray instead of making a small 360 game and porting it over to the PS3. This is why the PS3 is more dominant.
The disc is needed in the 360 due to piracy. Whats to stop you from renting a game, installing it, and then taking it back, getting a free game in the process? Believe me, you do NOT want console games to have one time use codes like PC games.
Yeah BC2 was 4.5GB witout patches on Xbox 360 so this has to be quite big if its just not the visuals increasing the size. Anyway... OMG! 2 DISCS THAT SUCKS I CANT LIVE WITH THAT NEED TO TAKE MY LIFE! but seriosly what is the big deal?
Not a problem. You can install it on the 360. Thats worth it to me.
I wish i could do that on the ps, its an awesome feature. I'd use it all the time.
The fact that more and more 360 games are shipping on two discs shows that the DVD format is getting left behind. The PS3 version is shipping on one disc AND comes with BF1943. Something's got to give next gen.
Take into account that the DVD is easily scratched. That's one of the reason some games sell a lot of the console with DVD format.
You hath to be a f***ing idiot to scratch dvds. I had 360 games since 2005 that work fine.
Why ps3 is doing there mandatory install I could either be playing the game or install the entire game and with a ps3 you can't do any of these.
You are a retard. end of story. Install is always > then Stream. ALWAYS.
And really? That Whole 5 mins you get to play before all the PS3 users? You are a sad individual if this makes you all giddy...
Lol... who will get this for the Xbox 360? Let them stick to MW3 and we PS3 and PC gamers can enjoy next-gen gaming to its fullest with Battlefield 3!
Im getting all 3, what you gonna say about that? All three games total cost $100 NZD (ALL TOGETHER), so yep UMadBro?
Hmm...360=Microsoft PC=Windows=Microsoft Thanks for supporting MS, PS3 fanboy!
your such a Tool
