CVG - We take back our early fears about the AI. Rage isn't meant to be scary like Doom 3 was, but we were utterly terrified when we first stepped into a bandit stronghold and saw a sword-wielding skinhead charge at us.
RAGE is defining the FPS side of openworld RPGs. I have zero issues with the gameplay, but I want to see more focus on the roleplaying of it. We already know the gameplay/graphics/MP/Audio will be 10/10. The story and pacing is what I most intersted in seeing.
I'm excited to get my hands on this game.
Both Brink&Bodycount suppose reinvent fps but have manage to do a poor job. Hopefully this game will succeed where they have failed.
I was pumped for this game until i found out that they had to cut content from all platforms because of a certain console. id Software lead designer Tim Willits now says that significant game content has been scaled back in all versions of the company's upcoming shooter Rage due to the size restrictions of the Xbox 360's aging DVD format. While the expansive shooter was initially going to feature multiple wastelands, it now features only two major areas that are split into multiple instances. "I wouldn't say the overall story was changed in any way in order to fit on the Xbox 360 version, but how the player experiences Rage's story has been altered," said Willits during a speech at the Austin Game Developers Conference. id has been critical of Microsoft's royalty rates for extra Xbox 360 discs, leading to the company's decision to cram the game onto two DVDs. "The PC is limitless in the amount of data you can put on it," added Willits. "The PS3 has about 25GB. But the Xbox 360 roughly has 6 to 8 GB of data. We're hoping we can squeeze the game down to two discs for the 360 version." =/
it's three disc (the third being MP) The entire optional install on X360 is 22gb. (22gb / 3 = 6-8gb) Even Sony doesn't allow that large of an install. PS3 mandatory install size is approx 8.5gb
I hope they don't lock or unlock the side quests with the disc swapping pace of the 360, on the Ps3/PC version. If you missed out on a quest on the first disc on the first disc on 360, there is no way they should lock it out after a certain point on PS3 or PC since they can run full on through. Square tried to pull that sh*t with FFXIII, sadly almost all the side quests, and added content was just deleted since MS's raging royalties and fee for adding a 4th disc will screw the hell out of the developers. MS needs to figure out a better solution next gen, cause this is quite frankly becoming an issue.
I'm not too concerned on RAGEs multiple disc on X360 because you can full install. Although Mass Effect 2 on multiple disc was a killer! (nevermind PS3 version looks way better) In ME2 you choose where to travel, so you pick galaxies and contantly be prompted to switch discs
Another game gimped for the 360, yet if there are two more pixels in that version we'll get to hear how superior it is. As for the game itself, it looks cool but I haven't seen a thing to make me think the FPS genre is being reinvented here.
I'll pick this up eventually. Maybe they will release a special GOTY edition.
