Long Live Play: A Tale of the PS3's Redemption

If Sony gives me the choice to fully instally games to the hard drive I will ditch the 360 overnight. Bioshock, Dead Space, Red Dead Redemption, LA Noire and just about every multiplatform game suffers from the slow blu-ray lense reading the disc. When I install a game like RDR to the 360 hard drive I won't hear one noise the entire campaign. Put that same game in the PS3 and it sounds like a printer making coffee. Maybe I'm alone but it ruins the experience for me. Heavy Rain was brilliant but you hear the lense constantly. Slim, fat, new slim, old slim the lense pulling info off the disc is what keeps me on the 360.

MidnytRain2572d ago

No idea what you're talking about.

iamnsuperman2572d ago (Edited 2572d ago )

Agree. I am not sure what BrightFalls76 PS3 is like. My PS3 is still the launch PS3 fat. I can't here it because there is usually a game going on.

than DVD to achieve the same data transfer rate.

newn4gguy2572d ago

You can't hear the 360 pulling data, but you can definitely hear it struggling for its life EVERY SECOND IT'S ON!!!

Parapraxis2572d ago (Edited 2572d ago )

Finally somebody boasting about the loudness of the PS3 over the 360!
Where have you been all this time?
Clearly people who prefer the PS3 are being absolutely stupid because there are not full installs available.
As we all know the PS3 is well known for hardware failure due to overheating..unlike the 360 (it's not like people install 360 games for the sheer reason NOT doing so may make the machine die)...and the noise, I mean seriously, you have to have your speakers at at least a minimal volume to drown out all that whirring and as you say the "lense" noise constantly distracting you coming from that loud-ass PS3.
Bravo good sir, I suppose it was just my imagination that my 360 still makes a shitload of noise when it's on, whether or not the game is installed.

(BTW to the other commenters, I sincerely hope you can perceive the painful amount of sarcasm in my post. @BrightFalls76, you are so delusional you will probably see me as a bastion of truth)

iamnsuperman2572d ago

When I started reading your comment I was like what??? towards the end it becomes obvious (even before the edit).

Parapraxis2572d ago

Thanks man, unfortunately, knowing N4G I felt the edit was warranted.
Game on lol.

tiffac0082572d ago

You had me at "Finally" lol!

Trophywhore2572d ago

You want to install 25gb+ blu rays on your ps3? Really?

jukins2572d ago

what do you play on mute? thats really the only way you should hear the disc or hdd noise. funny how the disc noise and hdd bothers your but the jet engine 360 is A-okay by your standards

MysticStrummer2572d ago

You might need to have your doctor tweak your meds.

DlocDaBudSmoka2572d ago

maybe if you listened to the game audio through something other than shitty tv speakers would help ur situation.

tarbis2572d ago (Edited 2572d ago )

Good luck installing 25gb - 50gb games.
It's not the PS3 that is making all those noise. It's your head.
The reason you can't hear your 360 suffering bec it's already dead. RROD much.

ForROME2572d ago

Sony has had a rough patch period with the PS3 however; they are looking sharp and steady towards the end of this patch, lessons learned PS4 will be ready to rock out of the box

newn4gguy2572d ago

rough "patch"?

I see what you unintentionally did there...

Parapraxis2572d ago (Edited 2572d ago )

@ ForROME
Have you recently bought a PS3, or gotten sickenly tired of the lack of exclusives on the 360?

From a fellow 360/PS3 owner, just wondering.

PSuperior32572d ago

The PS3 is oviously the best console of this gen anyway.

jessupj2572d ago (Edited 2572d ago )

Long live play.

Dam right. I don't know what I would do if Sony pulled out of the gaming industry. I shudder to think.

Jazz41082572d ago

I really am glad I don own some of the 360s and ps3 I here about on here. I hardly ever here my 360 and have to put my ear on it to hear it and same with my ps3. I would like to know why every so often my ps3 makes this popping sound and its loud. I had a ylod once allready and will not buy another ps3 if this one dies. My 360 is my third 360 and all 3 consoles are still running and one system was repaired due to a drive error.

DlocDaBudSmoka2572d ago

that popping sound is probably just the plastic expanding. things expand when they get heated. like houses have creaky noises from settling.
