Naughty Dog’s Arne Meyer has issued a response towards the numerous fan complaints regarding the Portuguese-dubbed voices in Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception.
Is it really that deep? Gosh!
That what she said.
Geeze ur mature ay
How many games offer Portuguese as a language anyway? Most games released in the Brazilian & Portuguese market only get subtitles. Gamers should be happy that at least ND took the time to give them the option of dubbed audio.
I'm Brazilian and I must agree. You probably don't have the idea on how some specific/regional/contextual words are translated when these guys bend to game, or even any IT text/app localization. It's not like a www.engrish.com (if you never saw you must....) translation but it just feels unnatural. I'll always vote for a subtitled version, and even yet - personally - I'll choose English subtitles. But for those here who can't read English subtitles go with the Portuguese ones... Game developers should research more about the people they are localizing to, because if they did they would know that here in Brazil at least (I don't know about Portugal) it's WAY TOO MORE acceptable a movie (for example) be subtitled than subbed. There are some groups of the population where open TV shows everything subbed but they are, definitely, not the public game developers should aim for.
are they mad that it is not dubbed right? i personally don't find that stuff annoying when they do it with spanish, but if they're going to do it it would be nice if they did it right. When they do spanish, they usually do spanish from spain, not american spanish, so its understandable to a certain point.
I reckon they should start doing dubbings for games in Neutral Spanish and not spanish from Spain... Is it too much to ask? :P
No one cares about this.
I guess there are some Portuguese gamers that care :p
I would be one of them hehe :P Of course I'm not going to get pissed of if the Portuguese sounds like a retarded potato.
Most of the Portuguese people I know speak fine English...so they'll probably leave it on English anyway. For the people that don't: Just be happy you get to play at all. Leave it on English voices but use Portuguese subtitles.
I'm portuguese and I prefer Subtitles only, dub sounds stupid
People who speak Portuguese care, it IS an issue, however it's not nearly as big of an issue as the media would like you to believe. edit: Dark-hollow beat me to it.
then UNCHARTED 3 play in Japanese
and I just played the demo, but it's as bad as seeing anime dubbed in english or a movie dubbed in spanish xD
English anime dubbing has gotten a lot better, in fact most dubs nowadays are really good. But I understand what you're saying. I don't understand a single bit of the language, but even I can tell that "voice acting" in the Portuguese trailers are awful.
Well, I've been watching Toradora and I have to say that while I don't even know if there is a dubbed version, I can't say I'd want it. Something about the original voice acting is special and it needs to be heard in its truest form.
Wait... the Portuguese have the demo for this amazing game... What the hell man
I care... Even though this is not the version I'll play. I'll play the European Portuguese Version (this is the Brazilian one). Nevertheless, all versions need to be solid, at least synchronized properly.
Yep thank god as imo the portuguese dubbed version on Uncharted 1/2 were better than the original. Got scared for a moment there.
There is an easy, obvious solution to this problem... I just don't know what it is. ;)
It's called subtitles.
or UNCHARTED 3: DUBBING DECEPTION
What a clever boy you are. :)
I trust in ND
Sony of America is an amateur company.
and ur an immature person.
sorry, did not know we were friends for you to meet me.
I want one in ebonics, instead of Drake, I want Shaquille or tyrone.
I'm portuguese... but my console is in english i don't care about these crap translations it's for noob people :P
Seems that they only cared if the dialogue was heard while the lips were moving, and they could care less if it sounded natural.
They should be glad the game is even dubbed at all. Sony is one of the few companies that has this level of localization in their games..
It was not as bad as I thought it would be. I mean, guys, did you really expect a full lip-synch in the dubbed versions? If so I would call it a naive expectation. Naturally, lips will move according to the English language. Never heard a company that puts so many effort and money into providing lip-synch in all of the languages included in the disc, that would be a tremendous waste of time and resource for the developers. And that's what the subtitles are for, remember? I can't judge the quality of the dubbing though, if it sounds awkward this is probably due to the poor performance of the voice actors.
@disagreers, Why u madz at meh bru? (:
I honestly thought it was the most reasonable comment in this thread.
It was never about the lip Synch, it really is about the Acting and the bad voices. Most of you who doesn't understand our language won't notice the gravity of this service. Brazil have the Best Dubs in the World, and Sony hired a Miami Studio With obviously bad actors, who can't even act to the right situation to dub this game. It REALLY is a POOR work. Brazil is big, BIG market, but we won't accept this bad Dub, even if our native Dub Studios are Far, FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAR more superior than this miami one.
Sorry I have to interrupt you there. Sure, Brazil is a big market, but the Brazilian Dubbing Industry is far behind the German one. We have dubbed media for more than 70 years. German Dubbing is the best in the world. You can even youtube it. ;)
lol PT-BR Dubs suck everytime time of the week.
Hopefully there is a Latin American Spanish version and not just an Iberian Spanish one.
Go for subtitle, it's easier that way.
ok, then we will launch the games without dubbing, since you are content with only LEGEND facepalm
I really tought for a moment that they were talking about Portuguese from Portugal and not Portuguese from Brazil... Be it either in PT-BR or PT-PT, dubs usually suck hard and by that I mean making things seem ridiculous. This trailer is no exception to it. And while dubbing people should also carefully research regional word usage and they should try to keep it as standard and as generally understandable as possible.
Olha não estava a espera de ver isto xD yes im portuguese.
