Mario 64 was Nintendo’s attempt at leaping their 2D mascot into the 3D world. Although Mario 64 didn’t introduce any new features over other games of the time, but it did show the importance of perfecting existing features. Nintendo’s use of the basic features made the game an extraordinary success, and helped slingshot the franchise to heights previously unexplored. The Mario series is still extremely successful, so they clearly did something right.
