Guy Cihi writes open letter about Silent Hill HD Collection’s voice recasting

Guy Cihi, the original voice and motion capture actor for James Sutherland in Silent Hill 2, has written an open letter to Konami Digital Entertainment on his Facebook page regarding the voice-acting recasting controversy in Silent Hill HD Collection. (Guy Cihi, PS3, Silent Hill HD Collection, Xbox 360)

Would it really have killed Konami to just pay the guy?.
They are a multi-billion dollar corporation, a VA's salary would be less than pocket change to them.

"The only way to do this appears to be for me to relinquish all my rights to Konami and so I hereby completely waive all rights to my motion capture and vocal performances in the Silent Hill 2 production without demand for additional consideration. Have your lawyer send me the proper documents required so that we can put this fiasco behind us."

What an amazing person. Should've guessed he would do something like this considering he keeps helping the tsunami victims in Japan in various ways. Keep rocking Guy! And I hope Konami actually uses his voice in HD collection. Maybe by giving us an option to choose between old VO and new ones kind of like Halo CE: Anniversary's classic mode.

That's the best option they could give right now.

If not, Konami are just b*****ds.

That was a very moving letter and he didn't really need to do that, was very noble of him. With that said I actually still don't understand the whole issue because I truthfully don't know who to believe, Konami or Guy?

However I still want to go to Silent Hill. That is the main concern.

Bloody legend, this Guy Cihi.

I have never played the original games, and I am uncertain as to whether play the HD collection, or the PS2 versions due to this voice acting fiasco.

This guy is legitimately giving up any recognition or rights he has just so that the original voice cast can be heard in the game so that a newer generation of gamers can experience this horror classic.

I really hope Konami listen to him, and at least offer him ANY amount of money for his selfless act.

this is actually very sad. When he mentioned "Team Silent" in his open letter, I felt really sorry for the people that put time and effort in the development of Silent Hill. Silent Hill isn't the same anymore and I never liked how Konami is handling the franchise. I still refuse to believe that Western developers can save franchise. They don't understand Silent Hill the way Japanese developers do.

the voice that replaced him is actually quite good, however all other voices really suck.
So yeah i would still prefer original soundtrack

:( who the hell asked for new voice acting?
JsonHenry  +   1336d ago
I'm still not sure why everyone cares so much who does the voice acting. I've played and beat all the Silent Hill games except part3 and the one that came out for the Wii. It has never mattered to me who did the voice acting.

Because shitty VA breaks the atmosphere. And since original is good, why change it?
JsonHenry  +   1336d ago
I don't recall the original being that good to start with. But it has been a long time since I have played those early Silent Hill games so maybe I am wrong.

People become accustomed to what they're used to. Silent Hill 2 doesn't have the best voice acting in the world (except for Maria- I stand by my opinion that her voice and mood swings were AMAZING)... but when you grow up with certain voices, they do tend to grow on you. It's the same reason fans complained about the new voices in the Pokemon and Dragonball Z series. The originals might not be as "professional" as the new ones, but they're the voices fans are familiar with.

I hope they do include the original vocals along with the new ones, I haven't heard the new VO yet, but honestly I don't see the need to replace the original, Guy Cihi's portrayal of James Sutherland in Silent Hill 2 is a classic.

Wow much respect to this guy. He must really care about the fans and such to let them use the VO's. Hopefully Konami can agree and release it with both versions. Otherwise I might pass on it.
