Uncharted: Drake's Fortune Review:9.1

November 13, 2007 - It's been a rough year for PlayStation 3 owners. Exclusives have been lost, a handful of titles have been bumped from the bottom line-bolstering holiday season, and Lair was Lair. With each disappointment, more and more fans have looked to Uncharted: Drake's Fortune -- a title whose screenshots have been lauded for months -- to be the saving grace of Sony's 2007.

But pinning so much on one title pretty much guarantees a letdown, doesn't it? Can Naughty Dog live up to more than a year of mouthwatering coverage and placate fans who forked over $600 to see stellar title after stellar title come out on non-PS3 platforms?

Yes. Yes, it can. Uncharted: Drake's Fortune is the most fun I've had in a videogame this year.

The story is too old to be commented.

"Say what you will about the PS3, but Uncharted isn't just a standout for Sony -- it's a standout for gaming as a whole."

Goodnight folks.

I simply have had no doubt when it comes to Uncharted.I don't know why but the first time I caught wind of Uncharted I knew it would be great.Like I've said a many a times Uncharted was the final push that got me to get a PS3 this year (had it since June).I'll be yanking someones arm off when I pick this up.

MK_Red3686d ago

Kick ass indeed. And indeed :)
But hey, this was a Naugthy Dog game and anyone expecting any less from ND is a fool. Great review and news.

KINGDRAMA3686d ago (Edited 3685d ago )

this game is the sh1t. i did a drop kick on some character and cant even figure out how i did it........THE DROP KICK LOOKED CRAZY THOUGH.

definitely coppin this on launch.
edit:@1.5, thats why i always add a .5 to what they say.
IT seems as if every ps3 titles takes a 1.0-.5 point deductible. I consider it a bias. im sure others agree with me.

lonestarmt3686d ago (Edited 3686d ago )

I don't understand how they review ps3 games anymore. Well the must fun you have had with a video games this year? Then why rate it only a 9.1?? why not a 9.6 or higher?? seriously this is why I don't even trust gameranking sites. I guess they really do take of points for not having Multiplayer now a days. Lame. Its ok reviewers you can give a ps3 game a 10/10 or close to it if you want too. lol

A flame war is going to start because the PS3 has another AAA title and the arguement "PS3 has no games" is dying.

Edit: wow Xbots are truly idiots. The only point i wanted to make is that there are games on the PS3 and the arguement "PS3 has no games" is stupid just like whoever disagreed with me. People get lives I didn't insult your mother.

JasonPC360PS3Wii3686d ago (Edited 3686d ago )

I say this game averages out to about 8.5, need a 9.5 or sales of 1 million or more to be AAA.

trane0073686d ago

I knew it was only a matter of time before them damn xbots came.

Jandre023686d ago

Orange Box (multiplat)
BioShock(rumored multiplat)
Call of Duty(scored higher on PS3.)

Lol.

Idiot.

JasonPC360PS3Wii3686d ago (Edited 3686d ago )

"or sales of 1 million or more" learn to read.

okcomputer3686d ago

You can't be serious with that 1 million sold crap. Then by that standard nintendogs and pokemon are aaa as well.

Martini3686d ago (Edited 3686d ago )

Typical fanboy - BS instead of facts.

Metacritic average scores below:

360
1 BioShock 2007 96
2 Orange Box, The 2007 96
3 Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare 2007 95
4 Gears of War 2006 94
5 Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, The 2006 94
6 Halo 3 2007 94
7 Guitar Hero II 2007 92
8 Virtua Fighter 5 2007 91
9 Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2006 90
10 Forza Motorsport 2 2007 90

PS3
1 Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare 2007 95
2 Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, The 2007 93

EDIT: Oh yeah I almost forgot - both of these are ports from 360 LOL :)

xplosneer3686d ago (Edited 3686d ago )

Jason said he thought AAA was 95 or above average.....not 90.....
@reply
I agree there isn't I was just showing Jason's definition of it. Even I don't agree with the quoted one.

Martini3686d ago (Edited 3686d ago )

You are right. Where is the definition of a "AAA" title ??

EDIT: there is not a clear definition of what an "AAA" title is so to all the fanboys STFU.

This is the he most fitting description I have found on what an "AAA" title is:

" One of the questions that came up on Slashdot was what, exactly, the definition of AAA was. The short, snarky answer is any game with a ginormous budget that reaps ginormous rewards. World of Warcraft is a AAA title. Katamari Damacy is not."

The_Engineer3686d ago

"
PS3
1 Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare 2007 95
2 Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, The 2007 93

EDIT: Oh yeah I almost forgot - both of these are ports from 360 LOL :)"

this inspite Infinity themselves telling us both games were built from the ground up for each console?? you can kindly STFU now.

fusionboxer3686d ago

@martini

Using Metacritic to find whether or not a game is triple A or not based off an average is hardly the way to say whether or not the ps3 has a solid list of great games or not.

Warhawk on metacritic recieved somewhere around the 80's, but IGN let us know right off the bat that the hype of Incog creating an AAA experience was delivered. In the same way Play magazine stated Heavenly Sword was an AAA experience while many would say Ratchet and Clank is.

I mean we speak of reliable sources, but should scores from a site that simply compiles numbers and averages them out be something we should rightfully use for debates? No way brotha!

I mean i'm kind of sick of websites giving actual numbered scores for reviews. Kotaku already caught on by reviewing a game without any score. Instead of simply looking at a score then leaving we'd all be forced to sit down and READ rather then take a score and use it for attacks on other users. I mean the video review for Assassins Creed on Gametrailers sounded extremely negative yet they gave it a 9... What's going on there? Perhaps a jacked up reviewing system that the entire game industry should drop?

' Uncharted: Drake's Fortune is the most fun I've had in a videogame this year'

Judging from the demo that doesn't surprise me

Danja3686d ago

Totally agree dude..i've played the demo..more times than I can remember and the A.I never ceases to amaze me...I can't imagine how S-I-C-K the entire game is gonna be...

sonarus3686d ago

agreed fanboyism aside ratchet and clank was the most fun i had this yr in games but after playing uncharted demo i wouldnt be suprised if this is more fun. I really enjoy deep single player experiences. What impressed me the most about uncharted was the A.I. You can't stick in 1 place and plan to take out all the enemies thrown at u either u'll get flanked or u'll run out of bullets. It really gives you that feeling like you are fighting for your life sometimes. Really satisfyin when you successfully finish off your foes

okcomputer3686d ago

Yep same here.. my wife caught me on my third playthrough of the demo the other night and was like "are you playing that demo AGAIN?"

Uncharted may not be a totally original breakthrough in games, but its such pure fun to play that it doesn't have to be. Can't wait to pick it up next week.

MADGameR3686d ago

Because all of those games you mentioned for the 360, are ALL not 360 exclusives. All of them are multiplat except for Forza. Halo 3 is coming to PC ofcourse!

PopEmUp3686d ago

has the most smartest Ai than any games I have ever played before

DrPirate3686d ago

C_SoL3686d ago
