In an unprecedented move, GameStop stores are tampering with PC copies of Deus Ex: Human Revolution by removing vouchers that promote a potential competitor. As a consumer, it's time to get mad.
their buy 2 get 1 free is sometimes hard to pass up. I can find some gems from time to time.
just go to ebay
Yup, because I want to deal with random people I don't know and pay outrageous shipping charges that neutralize any discount I could have gotten. ..then I have to wait around the week for the game to come in. With my local Gamestop, I get the game the same day and I can take advantage of Buy 2 get 1 free deals. And guess what?! If I play the game and I think it sucks, I can return it wihtin a week and get a FULL refund.
is a bit whack on some things. Or better yet, i have seen them raise the price on some things based on their popularity and/or rarity. A good example is Ninja Gaiden Black for the xbox. When the ps3 version of NG sigma came out, they upped the price of the xbox "black" version because it was more sought after than the regular xbox version. And go figure it was because of the ps3 release (could be coincidental). On most of their stuff the discount is usually only $5 between the new and used. Like with killzone 3 being $59.99 new they sell the used for $54.99. I dont know what that game goes for now but that is just an example. I did find some of the older pack in titles like lego indy and kung fu panda for $5 for both cause they were in one case. It sux they dont offer dreamcast games anymore yet they will still accept gameboy and gba games and sell them. I have to turn to dimple records to find dc stuff and n64 and older. ok I'm rambling here...sorry.
@below relax lol just giving you an idea
I don't understand people who try so hard to get others to boycott Gamestop. Why don't YOU boycott Gamestop..and I keep doing whatever the hell I want?
"...and I keep doing whatever the hell I want?" You should work for GameStop.
Actually my friend is trying to get me a job there. I might be a part-time GS employee by the end of next month. I heard employees get free used games :)
It was sarcasm. GameStop is a joke. Not only are they dishonest, but the employees are idiots who are only hurting the video game industry. They're just too naive to realize it. They're "nice" because they're trying to sell you something. And in the real world, you can't do whatever the hell you want. That's why I play video games.
@ Skizelli You're a idiot. Just because someone works at a company you don't like doesn't make them the bad guy. Most likely trying to make a buck and have fun doing it. It's people like you who make the world a awful place to live in for jumping on a bandwagon with misplaced hatred and lesser understanding.
That was very grimy stuff GS did, at least send out a notice to digital distributors (onlive) before doing something like this. Just take your money elsewhere folks.
They didn't want to sell a product with advertisement for a competitor! What a horrible evil company! They should have informed the company that they weren't going to advertise! /s Gamestop creates local jobs. I won't be boycotting them because they through away advertisement. Heck, I wish all businesses automatically through away advertisements in my products.
anti competitive behavior is just so ugly... not to be encouraged
You do know every company exhibits anti-competitive behavior. In fact, that is how you become competitive ironically. That is how businesses are run.
I never buy from them anyway. Amazon is usually where I go for my games. Good deals.
na, i'll pass. its like people being angry at burger king because they don't want to advertise wendys.
thats retarded...they have tampered with a brand new product, and they will still sell it as brand new. Maybe people will learn one day to avoid that garbage ass store altogether. There is nothing that will take me into a gamestop store anymore after they tried to sell a used copy to me as new and saying that they are all that way when I can see the damn box behind the counter with multiple games in shrink wrap. FU Gamestop. @budget your analogy sucks...it was a sample inside the package, not like it was forced on gamestop to sell the game to begin with. They chose to be sneaky and try to pull another one over on consumers and got caught.
you're right my analogy did stink. if they try to sell you an opened game as new, say no.
It's not like they played frisbee with the disc....they opened it and through out a pamphlet.
It's more like Burger King selling you a whopper meal but without the fries.
More like Burger King selling you a used Whopper meal with missing fries.
I'm so glad to be a part of a species that compares used food and french fries to an advertisement pamphlet being thrown away...
I love Gamestop. So what!
Yea I've never had a problem with them. Not sure how the employers at other gamestops are but mines are all very nice. This doesn't even affect me so ill pass
thought the time to boycott was 6 years ago?what was i too early?
no. Gamestop buys my used games i dont even touch, and very quickly. until shipping is done quickly, i will always trade in my games at gamestop. sure you can get much better ROI on ebay/amazon, but i prefer speed.
it takes a few days at most with amazon and shipping is free. I dont understand how you prefer the not using the lube. I guess 5.50 is a great deal for a game you just spent 60 dollars on less than a month ago, that they will turn around ans sell for 54.99. The agony of waiting for confirmation less than a week is just too much. Different strokes, different folks I guess.
No offence man, but when I'm SELLING something, the point is how much I get for that item or I would just give it away.
When gamestop messes up some games articles pop up why to hate. Really, those articles should have been up since before.
Lame, the PC game is cheaper then the console one and you miss out on getting something free. Really no big deal, did you buy the PC game to install it and play it on Onlive? Because I would think if you get it for PC, then you would have had your PC build to play it on high.
I quit going to GameStop after I realized that the trade-in values suck.
Trade-in is truly terrible. They offered me $2 for Gears of War 2 used (complete and like new) and I saw on their shelf they were selling same edition of game for $19.99 used.
$2?!!!!!!! Bloody hell
Yeah, they gave me about a dollar for Splinter Cell Conviction.
Hell they'll give you like $.25 for PS2 and Xbox games. They gave my friend like $6 for Mirror's Edge. :|
I havent bought anything from them i actually planned on keeping in over 2 years now, Thats what gamefly is for. I do ocasionally get a game from there & return it a few days later for a full refund. 7 days no questions asked people on any used game. Take advantage!
I have yet to have an issue with Gamestop. I love the place and the staff. I actually am near the very first Funcoland.
Your argument is invalid. Sincerly, The World.
It was an opinion not an argument. Sincerely, someone with an education.
Disc Replay says, "Hi!". ;)
Aftr 10/25 /11 12:01 an and my bf3 LE in hand then I boycott :)
go to walmart, its open 24 hours and you dont have the smell of urine/unwashed hair and pasty faces to deal with.
Your 24hr WalMart DOESN'T have a bunch of pissy, pasty bums taking shelter in the McDonald's seating area? Sounds more like a Target.
This is hilarious, a user recommending Walmart to people angry with the corporate misconduct of another retailer.
merely offering another option, the lesser of 2 evils if you will. Unless you work for them, lol.
Doesn't affect me. I buy console only games. I do feel that PC gamers are buying games at the price which gamestop offers meanwhile not getting the contents that they would others be entitles too. This is poor business practices on gamestop's part. If I had bought a PC copy and found out that that voucher had been removed which I should have been entitles too, I would march right back and demand my voucher or ask for a rebate on my copy.
How many PC gamers go to Gamestop for a PC game? Dumb move. All they did was stop a few future sales to Onlive and get other (console) people mad.
I am not a gamestop fan in the least but it's for more reasons than opening up copies of Deus Ex. 1)Many of their "new" games are open, have been played, handled and then a new sticker slapped on front. 2) Their trade in prices are very small compared to Amazon or Best Buy. In fact you are better off selling it yourself on Amazon or Ebay, I easily make double each time. 3) Prices on the games themselves are always higher than Amazon, Best Buy and Ebay even with Buy 2 get 1 Free. 4) Condition on used games is usually average or good but with stickers all over case. Again you can get truly like new games for much cheaper from each of the places I listed above. 5) Switcharoo. If you insist on buying from them make sure you check the case they are giving you. My last straw was earlier in the summer when for one of many times over the years I took 3 really nice used games up to counter (insert, case, booklet) and the guy pulled from the drawer cases that were broken, booklets were ripped or missing and inserts that were ripped. And yes, the Deus Ex debacle is important to. I don't blame them for not carrying the game, I get it. What was crappy was them opening up copies and taking out something that shipped with the game. Again, this gets back to my point that a lot of the new games you buy have been opened, resealed or incomplete. Stop supporting GameGestapo
nah im gonna keep buy used games from them, its a win win they get money, i get games cheap
I'm sorry, did I read this correctly?? They are removing competitor stores advertisements??? Well, that is normal. Have you ever seen a Burger King ad in a McDonald's happy meal??? No, there is a reason. You don't advertise competitors in yiur store and in your products. How the hell did the adverts get in there the first place?? Also, didn't gamestop stop selling PC games?
no you didn't read it correctly. they are removing a voucher code to be able to play the game through the onlive cloud gaming service instead of installing in onto your pc. they are removing something you paid for. would yoiu like to go to walmart to buy a pc and them remove windows from it just so they can sell the copies of windows they have in store?
that makes me want to go to a gamestop i never go to and buy that game and open it right there and ask for the voucher if it isn't in there and raise some hell and maybe get it for 10 bucks off or something. lol
Tht's a retarded reason to boycott gamestop . i dont use them because their service sucks , they have dangerously close to scamming behaviors (like trying to resell opened games as new , purposely leak games so they return quicker used , to resell at the official release datefor a bigger profit etc) , it's better to resell your games yourself or at pawn shops , and most online shops are just better . But because they refuse to promote a competitor ? get real a sec , and way to be late at the boycott gamestop party .
i love there buy 2 get one free deals, but there trade in games value suck it is not worth trading your games in and get 2-4 buck for them and then the same game used is 19.99 so that why i buy a lot of my games buy 2 use get one free and i have over 50 plus per system, the only time there was a good trade in value is when i had the red ring before the s hit the fan and they took it with out turning it on.
the time was a while ago
i just dont care
I will boycott them after rage, gears of war, battlefield, skyrim, and a ton of other games I plan to get come out. I can't wait to join the boycott! Yeah, I will get right on that boycott because the pc gamers have issues. Too bad I am a console gamer at the moment. Go use steam.
I dont support gamestop ever since they forgot to package in my copy of mario kart wii cause they had it as the display model and refused to give me some kind of credit for driving 30 min back to pick it up. They are a Bane to the gaming community. I go to play n trade if i have to get a game locally
I would never contribute to corporate america anyway. Support local business, not the giant corporations that are killing America.
